Solid database
I have used this program on multiple platforms and it has always met my needs. I have progressed from Palm, Windows Mobile, and now the iPhone and iPad. It is my database of choice no matter what the platform. The developer is responsive to your requests and is currently working on implementing forms into the program. Once that is complete it will be as visually appealing as it is functional in it's current state. I love the ability to email my work between devices which enables me to have the latest version of the database wherever I am. It will definitely get 5 stars once the forms are implemented.Show lessPractical1+
Crashes and looses your data.
This App is not ready for prime-time. It often crashes and looses data (or whole databases) that you entered. It is also overpriced for what you get.
The web access is nice to upload your databases as CSV files. However, it doesn't seem to allow merging new data into an existing database. (There may be a way to do this but I couldn't find it.) Instead you either have to create a new DB, or append the data onto the end of your existing one. Deleting all the old records of a large DB is a major pain.
I found the method to link one DB to another to be clumsy and nearly incomprehensable. There are four field types: DBPopup, Link, Linked, and Relationship. They all access the other DBs in different ways. I never did figure out how to use Link and Linked - the documentation isn't too clear - so I used DBPopup to populate a field and Relationship to access the key in another DB. Why do I have to burn two fields to link to a key in another DB?
I didn't find anyway of displaying the data other than as a simple record list. Also, there doesn't seem to be anyway of formatting the text in a field (it is always centered.) These things may exist but I can't find them.
I gave this 2 stars because it is a good start to a useful App. It needs a lot of work though.Show lessEtzEchad
Sharing databases is a breeze
The ability to email a db to someone, such that it is merged with their existing copy of the db is brilliant!
I'm not quite sure I get the UI complaints. It's a database app! It allows you to create, view, import, export and share databases! It is not, at least yet, designed to be a presentation app.
The ability to have fields which access other dbs is not present in any other app store application. The app has been consistently getting better since first introduced. I use this app all the time and strongly recommend it!Show lessbarry2010
Excellent Database
This is a really easy to use program that can create simple or complicated databases and has lots to offer those who want to tinker and create more involved/linked databases as well. I purchased Bento and was totally disappointed. It is a waste of money as far as I am concerned. You CANNOT import and export from it while with this program, Handbase, transferring files back and forth is a breeze. You can use the desktop companion version of Handbase but you don't have to. If you have Access or Excel (or similar programs) you can convert those databases or spreadsheets into csv files that will upload to the ipad without issue. I have been using the Handbase demo desktop version which is actually an easy to use program in its own right (although not as slick looking as the Ipad version). I find this progam easier to understand and set up databases then in Access. It does relational and linked dbs as well! I am very impressed with this program so far and find this new version to be very stable. I highly recommend this program to anyone looking for an easy to use and transferable database that has the ability to grow with you as you learn.Show lessSpiralDance
Over 4,000 Records I can bring with me!
I have a large database with my customer records. I am in outside sales and many times I am in my car when a customer calls. I used to have to pull over, get my laptop out of my trunk, loaded it up and in 15 minutes I can be online and have my customers ansers.
Now, I still pull over, but my iPad is instantly on and in 15 seconds I have my customers answer. Great program, I was able to move my records from Microsoft Access in just a couple of minutes. Now I'm getting ready to buy the Professsional add-on so I can keep Access synced with HandDBase.Show lessTechnologic2
Super awesome
Yea that's right I said "super awesome". This is hands down the best program for keeping a database of your small business customer list. Tried to use pages but list wouldn't even scroll after too many entries. HanDBase allows an extensive list with all the options I need without even having to manually enter some fields due to the easy to use drop-down boxes. Wonderful app
I've been debating about getting a database program for my iPad and finally decided to bite the bullet with HanDBase. It is a great app. Although I am relatively new to database programs, this one is easy to use , powerful, and very flexible. I'm already using several databases I've built. Hurray For HanDBase iPAD!
Finally, the solution to portability with all of my data. As a long time user of HanDBase and new iPAD owner, I am thrilled with this new format and version. As an owner of a medical management practice, I need to always have my patient data with me and the ability to communicate this information with other health care providers. Not only does HanDBase for iPAD allow me to do all this, but it does it with an exquisite interface. awesome graphics and other new features never seen before in HanDBase. The wireless sync conduit and desktop connect work flawlessly. I have had no crashing problems as a few others have stated. Buggy
Overall, this feels like a beta application. It crashed and lost data in the first 20 minutes of use - a big problem with a database application. The underlying theme is hard to see and use, very dark on the iPad. The classic theme is buggy, with transparent windows that make it hard to see the information presented. The home screen looks nice, but has little practical value and is not clear what it does-very much a form vs. function tradeoff. The databases are very easy to create, and fairly straightforward to populate, although there is a bit of iPhone style sliding menus. Nothing comes close
Nothing comes close to this database program! Many database programs are out there but they are typically the database that you would create with a spreadsheet rather than a database application. You can create simple to very complex databases. If you are up to it you can basically create a lot of apps typically on sale on iTunes. The downside of this complexity and infancy of this app is the occasional crash. This typically occurs while "programming" the database, just like a bug.
The UI is nice. I am just not a fan of their graphics(their icons,file cabinet, home screen). It makes this app look cheap and less professional. Although forms was not implemented in this version of the app it is said that it is in development. I am looking forward to that.
This app already has a large following on other mobile devices and there are a lot of database files to choose from. You can share these among other mobile devices and desktops.
Support is very good. They respond within a day on questions posted on their forum.
The price is just right for me.
I am giving this 4/5 stars because I hate the graphics and because of the occasional crashes.Show lessdimen426
