Avoid.
Having to pay to block people makes this app unsafe. It means that you’re bombarded with repetitive messages from unhinged types who won’t take no for an answer. Online safety is a basic right (and not an extra’s feature that is paid for). Additionally, the single/partnered ratio is pretty terrible and the majority of profiles are partnered men who are ‘not looking’. Photos take a long time to load and their Victorian era standards mean that any pictures are usually rejected if anything more than an ankle is revealed. This app was popular about 10 years ago… but it’s now outdated, clunky and it failed to keep up with the times. Much like Gaydar… it’ll end up on the digital dating site scrap heap. Avoid.

No more faves list?
These sites and apps ought to know by now that their non-paying users contribute a lot too, but the trend is to shift more features over to paid members only. Most users don’t even know that more active local profiles are hidden in the “Venture” tab in the back end of the app now, but what happened to my Faves list? I used that to keep in touch with friends from all over and is that now a paid-only feature too? I’ve been on this app for nearly 15 years now but the gradual removal of useful features for non-paying users is going a bit too far. It’s not an incentive to pay.

The app was good until the most recent update.
The recent update to the app has made it pretty useless. With the grid now locked to 25 profiles, it’s hard to find anyone I’m interested in. I’ve been using the ‘hide profiles’ and ‘hide people I’m not interested in’ features to show more guys I might be interested in. I thought the advertising helped offset the cost for free members, but these changes basically made the app useless rather than limited. I think these changes might drive people away to other alternatives. I’ve been checking out similar apps that are less limiting.

Obtuse
Pay wall has become unworkable. Time to flee.
Less on grid
If you don’t pay. They have reduced the amount of people you can see. It was a greater amount to scroll them before the update. If they see that desperate for $ just become like Grindr and limit it more.
Too bad this app is great for meeting guys and better than the latter. Guess it’s time to leave this one as well. Bye Felicia

Greedy developers…
The app has become extremely locked down behind its paywall and the subscription is overpriced. Better to connect on other apps these days.

SCRUFF offers a service rich in features and functions in both the paid and free versions. If you have any questions about SCRUFF Pro, contact us! Launch SCRUFF and tap the Profile icon (bottom menu bar), then select "Contact SCRUFF Support" in Settings. You can also visit support.scruff.com and submit a request. WOOF!
Frustratingly slow.
The community on this app is much nicer than other gay social apps - however the app itself basic functions leave something to be desired.
For example: It takes forever to delete or upload a single photo, you’ll find you’ll often have to put your phone down on the side and wait for one action to complete - that’s if it doesn’t error out completely, which is common.
Plus, just like all other apps nowadays, the free tier list of functions is slowly getting locked behind a paywall.

Blocking limits put users at risk
Limiting the number of people you can block on the free version is a serious safety issue. In an app where user safety and comfort should be top priority, this restriction feels unnecessary and potentially harmful. It’s frustrating that basic safety tools are being withheld unless you pay.
I was being harassed and couldn’t block the person. I will remove this review once they allow unlimited blocks.

Free tier restrictions are increasing
Scruff has always been one of the better gay dating/hookup apps. The app design, community friendliness and value for money in the paid tiers have consistently felt ahead of the competition, but that’s changing. As the free tier gets more restrictive it becomes harder to recommend, especially when the user base is a little smaller. Most egregious is the limitation of member blocking, something really unsafe for any app let alone one designed around meeting, and sharing often personal information. Reporting a profile doesn’t work when you’re just uncomfortable and can’t tell why, no other dating/hookup app I’ve used does this (even the terrible decision-makers at Gr*ndr stopped limiting blocks).
Loved Scruff, really wanna see it make a comeback.

Stuck in 1900’s
How is this app still not improving. Pictures take forever to load. A Christian mom with 3 kids sets the rules for which photos will be approved and not. The app is more restrictive now than ever before unless you pay a stupid amount. Garbage.
