Relief within minutes

Used to be a brilliant app but appears the owner has dumped it as no updates in several years and now the app constantly crashes.

tremendous app, take it from an audiologist

this is definitely the best tinnitus app that I’ve seen. There is no other app that offers you this much flexibility to create a sound that you will like to use for sound therapy. You can also import your Apple Music library and overlay any type of tinnitus masking sound with your choice of music. You can save then a sound that you like you can stream this sound through a Bluetooth device. This app is simply all that you could ask for in one cheap looking package, but don’t be fooled, in this case you can’t judge a book by its cover.

Wonderful

I have been using this app for years and it has given me my life back. I also wear hearing aids and I use bone conducting headphones. I wear them all day long most days. OK, I look a bit odd. But I’m in my 70s and I don’t care. Ten years ago, my mental health was suffering because of the tinnitus and then I found this app. A miracle. I use one of the sounds of nature all the time, the summer rain. Thank you so much, words cannot express my gratitude.

Response from developer

Dear Worn Buffet, thank you so much for these nice lines. All the best for you and greetings - Peer Dahl

Not worth the money

The app works well when you know how to use it and helped with my tinnitus but the overall control and feel of the app could be updated. Works well when you get it set up correctly. Not sure it’s worth the price!

Response from developer

Dear JonnyFEELGOOD, very sorry about your review and your misunderstanding in two points. (1) The birds sound stops at once when you start to use the app. It is only hearable just with the app start. Didn't you actual notice that? (2) Also this bird sound is a real live recording from our nature. Most people find a gentle bird sound loevely. Generally you can always ask the support if you need any help. Everybody is wellcome. Perhaps you think twice about your review and rather see how much this app can help you. Best regards - Peer Dahl

Shaky Science, Good Masking, Awful UI

Edited Review: My tinnitus has gotten noticeably worse since I began using this app a month ago; it’s impossible to demonstrate correlation, of course. I used it as per the directions

The masking features (described below) still work well however; so I’m lowering my rating from three stars to two.

My original review:

The science of tinnitus suppression through audio restimulus is pretty shaky and inconclusive. Do not, therefore, hope for a cure from any of these sound-based apps or other products.

But Tinnitus Help has some good masking features that I’ve found temporarily mask my worst rounds with tinnitus. Some of the benefits have lasted for as long as an hour after “treatment.”

The user interface (UI) is awful, and the directions are barely in English. Here are a few tricks: the first few steps are about mimicking the sound of your tinnitus. Set those parameters to a low volume, but they should be audible. I found that takes quite a while to get right, but it makes a difference.

Then you’re supposed to add masking: you can choose from a few nature sounds. Set the volume so that you can just barely hear the tinnitus sound that you set up earlier.

Next you add your music. The pre-programmer stuff works best for me.

App no longer works after update

It is no longer possible to set the frequency. The UI control is not responding. Previous profiles load but don't work. I got it working by deleting and reinstalling the app. It appears there are issues migrating old profiles.

Response from developer

Hello Jim Amsden, I' m sorry that you have trouble with the update. Did you try to set a new profile with the button "New" on the start page? Would it be possible to contact us to find out more about your issue to provide an update? Thank you and best regards, Peer Dahl

Only very temporary relief

My very initial feedback on this app is that the relief it grants is at best half a minute.

Firstly I found finding my tinnitus frequency to be easier said than done, in fact I feel I could fall between a reasonable range and this makes me concerned I'm not getting exposure to the right sound.

What I'm then finding is when I listen to the sound and the stop it I get a momentary absence of tinnitus as if my ears/brain have realised the sound has stopped but then quite quickly the internal ringing picks back up. I'm actually then experiencing a heightened sense of it because I think the app is bringing the tinnitus to the front of my mind and I'm more acutely aware of it or I'm more aggressively sealing it out.

I'd be interested to hear if this is normal or expected. To be honest I've found a single masking CD work better

I've found it helpful

I find that when my tinnitus is overwhelming, or when its keeping me up at night, the sounds generated by this app can provide very helpful relief. You match a tone generated by the app with the pitch of your tinnitus and layer in soothing sounds that play over the tone. As others have commented, its a bit tricky to understand, and the UI is indeed not good, but I appreciate that the app developers didn't let that hold them back from making this helpful app available.

Pretty good so far

I have tried several methods to quiet the high-pitched ringing in my head and now I'm trying this. It has a range of programs to either charm or distract you or, as the ad says, reprogram your brain. This seems to follow the psychological theory that it's stress-related. The other idea is that you need to phase-cancel out the ringing, not mask it with a blend of other sounds. All assuming that either approach(and the app to do it with) can work. We'll see.

BTW I had the same problem of not being able to turn off the New Age shtick and only listen to my own chosen music--very annoying and EASILY FIXABLE!

Works for me.

This takes the ringing out of my head and puts in into my iPhone (which is a huge relief)

Thanks for a great app! Thank you!
