2.11.5

June 11, 2024

Twenty new items added to the app's database and revision of color-coding of type and icons to support a healthy gut microbiome diet as follows. All plants that can be included as one of the 30 different types of plants per week recommended by experts for a healthy gut microbiome are highlighted in green type and with a green leaf icon in the food popups. The most prebiotic plants (ie, those that are particularly beneficial for the gut microbiome) are highlighted in a darker green type. Fermented foods that contain beneficial live microbes to become part of the gut microbiome (probiotics) are highlighted in gold type and with a gold microbe icon in the food popups. Foods that are likely to be ultra-processed (UPFs) — ie, contain ingredients not found in a home kitchen such as preservatives, flavorings, and emulsifiers — and are likely to have a harmful effect on the gut microbiome are highlighted in red type and with a red warning triangle in the food popups.

Description of Fiber Counter and Tracker

Use this app for a diverse high-fiber diet to ensure a healthy gut microbiome and immune system to prevent inflammation-linked diseases. Fiber also improves gut function, lowering the risk of constipation, diverticular disease, and haemorrhoids. Set your daily fiber intake based on guidance provided in the app and your preferences for weights of food (g or oz) and display of fiber content in foods and beverages (ie, %target/serving, g/100g or g/1oz, or %target/100g or %target/1oz). Record food and beverage consumption using the barcode scanner, dictation, search or by favoriting foods and using the serving sizes provided (which can be changed at any time). Tap the notepad to add notes. Monitor daily and long-term progress, export data to share with healthcare providers, synchronise data with other First Line Medical Communications Ltd nutrient counter apps, and share data with Apple's HealthKit. Add your own foods and recipes and change serving sizes to personalise the database. The app also provides nutritional information for many of the healthy foods and supports a healthy gut microbiome diet using color-coded type and icons as follows: 1. Plants that can be included as one of the 30 different types of plants per week recommended by experts for a healthy gut microbiome are highlighted in green type and with a green leaf icon in the food popups. The most prebiotic plants (ie, those that are particularly beneficial for the gut microbiome) are highlighted in a darker green type. 2. Fermented foods that contain beneficial live microbes to become part of the gut microbiome (probiotics) are highlighted in gold type and with a gold microbe icon in the food popups. 3. UPFs cause obesity for a variety of reasons and their harmful effect on the gut microbiome is linked to inflammation and many diseases including type 2 diabetes, high LDL "bad" cholesterol, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, inflammatory diseases, cancer, depression, and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's dementia and Parkinson's disease.

Reviews of Fiber Counter and Tracker

  • Not User Friendly

It is not user friendly. If you select a favorite food it defaults to a single serving. It doesn’t allow you to copy over the quantities you logged the previous day. It was a wasted $2.99, save your money.

    Developer Response

To change the serving size for any food, tap on the "Add Food" tab on the tab bar and then on the "Change food servings" and change the serving size. Tap "Save" and your serving size will then be stored in the database.
  • Way too basic and generic

This is am updated review. My husband was recently put on a high fiber diet. This app gives a generic number of fiber based on age and sex. After I couldn’t get the fiber count to set to what my husband’s doctor wanted, the company sent me directions. I as able to change the fiber count. I will still have to add any store bought high fiber foods, but I feel this app will now be usable. The list generated on the app is very basic.

    Developer Response

To change the fiber intake to that prescribed by the doctor follow the instructions on the Settings screen - ie, tap on the 'Fiber target' box, which takes you to the 'Your target fiber intake' screen. Tap in the box labelled 'Daily target' and key in the number (of g) on the keyboard that appears. The app is curated and contains 325+ common (mainly healthy and unprocessed) foods and drinks and the user can add their own branded and other foods and recipes at any time. This means the app is standalone, does not collect any personal data, and does not require access to the Internet.
  • Don’t waste your money

Not sure why I failed to read the reviews on this app. It is inaccurate and not user friendly. Go spend your five bucks on two Quest bars!

    Developer Response

We have now added in a barcode scanner, and we also provide a 325+ database of unbranded foods and beverages so that users can find a best fit if they don't have a barcode. We constantly improve the app's capabilities as new technologies evolve and new information becomes available. Once you have bought the app, you get free upgrades, you are not required to register, your data are not collected, additional payments are not required and there is no advertising. The "How to use the app" instructions included with the app provide guidance on how to use the Settings tab to set your preferred units for weights (g or ounces) and for amounts of nutrient (in terms of weight or % daily target) per serving and per weight unit, and how to record your intake using the barcode scanner, dictation, search and favoriting.
