  • Rip Off

Have been using Plex for years with no issues, Now it constantly asks me to buy premium pass to watch my own content all while forcing live tv down my throat and ads non stop.

Will be searching for other options with a better mobile app
  • Not worth it !

Always lagging and asking to purchase plex pass and after purchasing it still pops up to purchase again. Playback for videos is limited. Super annoying.
  • Ads

This app is good but there are way to many ads I got 10 ads . Please make less ads, 2 ads is good enough.
  • Great idea but doesn’t work well

I like the app very much I’ve found some great movies and shows that I haven’t seen in years and some new ones too but I’m struggling with the playback . On live tv the movie will stop and skip backwards a couple of seconds and it does this quite often and also the app closes down and reloads to free up memory and it’s not very good if you’re watching live tv and I can’t for the life of me figure out how to connect to the Plex server or alter the video settings. If it wasn’t for these issues Plex would be fantastic but as it stands a 90 minute movie might take quite a bit longer to watch . Hopefully these issues will be resolved soon then I can enjoy the massive selection of entertainment that Plex has to offer

  • Annoying ads even with the Pass

Purchased your pass on Apple TV which I thought would remove all the ads but no, they are still there and popping up continuously while I’m trying to watch a show or movie.

What’s the point in paying for your service if you keep showing annoying ads?
  • Very disappointed

Bought a subscription so the ads would go away but to my surprise and disappointment the ads are still being displayed.
    Major rip-off.
  • Just do it

Do yourself a favor, unsubscribe from the million streaming services you use and just buy the Plex lifetime pass. One and done, no more rip off monthly charges for the content you want to may or may not be there when you want to watch it. No more hopping from service to service to watch all the things you follow.

Use Plex, you don’t even need to pay a dime. If you want hardware transcoding (faster conversion time) among some other features and support the awesome devs, then do so! However if you do not, you still great the great product that is Plex.

Start your home server and collection. Share with all of your friends with no effort into configuration. Plex does it all for you, pulls in metadata from multiple internet media databases for artwork, trailers, ratings, actors, etc. It helps you track what you watched, what is on the list to watch, what ratings you felt it deserved per episode/season/show whatever you want!

Stop giving corpos your hard earned money and let Plex work for you. The only effort required is for you to provide the media. If you don’t want to, Plex has lots of content you can watch for free, you can connect any streaming services you foolishly still pay for and access there as well all in one place. You can also watch a lot of free tv channels, as well as store your pictures and music as well if you want.

Do yourself a favor and try out Plex

  • As long as the local storage is adequate, this is great

I didn’t think I needed Plex, and for starters pretty much everything is behind a (modest) paywall.

But the setup lets me watch video at (on average) 1600 kbps / SD 480p over cellular. Now I love getting away from my PC, and to use iDevice in a more congenial location to watch (my own) media is very attractive.

Do keep in mind it can take a few minutes to do the buffering thing. Better to make that time up front rather than (and this even happens over wifi) have your viewing interrupted at a random moment.

Also I need mention that the media is stored on the PC’s hard drive, rather than the cloud. Storage is cheap today, but one’s media isn’t without capacity constraints.

  • I’ll give it 5 stars when …

You make it easier for users - mobile or monitor- to select movies from a specific year. Right now I have to go to library, sort by year, down arrow, and keep scrolling. I have to keep scrolling until I get to the year (let’s say if the movie is released in 2002) and if I have a large collection to scroll through, this can be a hassle. Please make it easier to view through BUNDLE YEARS in library.

Also, let’s say I did want to want a movie from the year 2002. If I have 50 movies in my collection in this year, and I select one to dive deeper to see details about the movie…if I don’t like it and hit back, it brings me ALL the way up the top again. Does that make sense? When selecting a movie to view details about, if you were to go back to view your entire catalog it should haven’t to bring you all the way up top of the catalog. It should remember where you are looking and stay there.

Fix these issues on both mobile, computers, and TV please. This app is great and I commend you on your great work.

  • Audio Sync and Stuttering Issues on Apple TV

The iOs and iPadOS apps have always been great for me, as is the web interface and server. Nothing comes close to the functionality and polish offered in that regard. I hear people have some issues with the download functionality but I don’t use that so can’t comment.

However, the Apple TV app suffers from audio desync on most videos and stuttering with 4K content. This has been ongoing for years with no real fix available which is kind of maddening since that’s the platform that gets by far the most use from me.

Thankfully, you can use Infuse as a drop in replacement (connects directly to the same plex server with the metadata and play position/watched status perfectly synced), which gets you:

    - HDR tonemapping (which you get with Plex Pass but it’s kind of redundant since 4k content doesn’t work properly)
    - Perfect playback of 4k content with no stuttering
    - Perfect audio sync

Thankfully this workaround exists but i really wish Plex would sort out the Apple TV app. There are threads on the forums dating back years with people complaining of these issues.
