Now slurps your data just like everyone else

Started it up today to watch something from MY server. Was presented with a notice that they now collect advertising profile even though I DO NOT USE any of their ad supported tiers. This needs to end now!

Too many ads, with bad placement

I have no problem with ads as an alternative to subscription, but I just watched six minutes of a show with two minutes of ads before and after. I grew up with network TV, but most shows made in that era were designed with ad breaks in mind, so they didn’t feel all that intrusive. Here, they start up in the middle of exciting or emotional scenes, very often in the middle of a piece of dialogue. It’s difficult to stay engaged with what’s going on, and basically impossible (for me at least) to enjoy a show. Plex works well as a media server, but I’ll stick to other options for streaming.

Plex as a service doesn’t address existing issues

Look, I’m a Plex Pass owner. I’ve used it for years. The issue is that they ignore issues reported in the forums and just close down the threads without solving the issues. They are more focused on new features. I get it, new features to bring in new users and push the product and get more money. But they ignore those of us that already have it and report the issues.

I use on mobile devices, computers, TVs and consoles. Primarily the latter. It’s not gotten better. I would and do warn anyone to think and look at the closed threads before ever giving them money now. Until they start actually addressing the issues, I will not recommend.

To Plex, if you think to reply to this, review your own threads first. See how they just get closed without resolution. Staff just stop replying and close out the threads as soon as it hits the period of no new comments added.

Your staff should be maintaining them and keeping them alive until the issue has been confirmed fixed.

Dreadful user experience

This must be the least enjoyable streaming platform to use. There are ads about every 20 minutes, which last about 1-2 minutes each. They just cut in right in the middle of what you’re watching - often right in the middle of a character speaking, just to really spoil your experience. No care, no finesse, no respect for what you’re watching.

Plus the ads are the same 3 or 4 every time, so after you’ve already watched them several times during the show you actually want to watch, you’ll want to scream when they start playing again.

At free, Plex is already not worth the price. Avoid - there are much better options elsewhere.

Struggled With it Since 2018. Had Enough Now

Orginally bought a MyCloud NAS to store a vast number of MP3s on it and create a library on Plex to play through it onto my Sonos system (reason: music files are number limited in the Sonos library). For years this arrangement has been a creaking gate ready to “fall off” at any time and trust me it has done many times resulting in me tearing my hair out reinstalling things, updates here and there, putting all albums back into my Plex library(each time taking literally days to complete). Anyway with the recent updated app fiasco on Sonos then enough is enough I have got rid of Plex completely and installed a player that plays direct from my NAS. Why I oh why did I persist with perplexing Plex for years is anyone’s guess. I can’t comment on Plex video side of things as I have never used it. Trust me, you will get problems with Plex sooner or later and then again and again 😱

Way too many ads

It’s very hard to get through an entire movie as there are far too many ads. The ads are always the same and usually last for a couple of minutes for every 10 minutes of movie time.

Good app but some functions are not working

I have been using Plex for few months now and the concept of Plex has great potential but, I noticed when downloading my content to mobile devices, it doesn’t always work in home network and completely unable to download in a different network remotely.

“Plex Pass subscribers are limited to 2 Mbps maximum for streams” - Plex support. Is this a joke in this day and age? 480p at 2Mbps. Specially for paid customers who are not tech savvy or do not wish to meddle with advance network settings and just want to watch some content when away from home.

Getting a positive response to this review is highly unlikely but I see great potential for this service and I hope Plex will improve upon and provide a better service

Plex to rule them all!

I’ve been using Plex since way back in 2011 and I do so live using Plex above all other media handlers, like XBMC, Jellyfin, etc, it out performs them all IMHO!
But today I still cannot fathom what, if any, advantages there are to spending £4.99 a month on a Plex Pass! Thought I would try it again, to see if anything had changed…nothing has, apparently! After subscribing again, Plex was running just the same as it always does on all of my devices really! No change in speed, performance, additional options or anything! Apart from another category added to my library tabs, which I know I’m not going to use!
For me, the best part of Plex is how it auto-configures to whatever device you are using and to whatever network settings you have applied, or a using at the time! It will 99% of the time play or display most types of video, audio, picture and songs that you throw
A truly epic multimedia handler!

A small change

How about being able to search using just two key words? Like Sewing Bee to find The Great British Sewing Bee?
