Lots of new features packed into this new release: • Circular leisure routes: set a start point and distance or time and we'll plan you a route back to that point. You can choose points of interest on the way, if you want. • Follow-me mode: Once a route is planned switch on follow-me mode and we'll move the map to match your position as you ride. This will also tilt the map in 3D. • We've added points of interest (POIs) to use as start/finish locations for planning your route, so you can plan a route to nearby café or museum for instance, or go via a cash machine. • London Cycle Hire points are available within the POIs too. We'll be adding support for other bike hire schemes soon too. • You can now save your favourite locations for route planning later. • Added new map options including Satellite imagery. • The default map background is now OpenCycleMap, which shows cycle routes, cycle parking, and lots more. • Added retina map support for OpenCycleMap & OpenStreetMap options so maps will be clearer on newer devices. • As usual some nifty bug fixes!

This major new release brings a modernised interface, with a 3D mode, significantly better GPS location finding, some new features, and paves the way for further changes coming shortly. + Updated interface for OS8. + Full screen support for iPhone 5 and above. + New icon. + Experimentally works in a few more countries too.. we'll let you discover them! New features: + View map in 3D by swiping up with two fingers. + Rotate map by rotating with two fingers. + Support for Apple vector map style - especially helpful when you have poor network coverage, as it is faster to load. + New route details screen includes elevation profile, so you can see how hilly a route is (though routes automatically try to give you the smoothest ride automatically). + Clicking on a point in the waypoints list takes you to that location. + Move between itinerary sections by swiping left/right on details panel. Bug fixes: + Massively improved GPS tracking - no more stuck locations! + Fixed bug where username was lost if app is paused within Photomap wizard. + Fixed caption adding bug in Photomap wizard. CHOICE OF THREE ROUTING MODES The app produces routes that will suit most cyclists. It can optionally can find faster or quieter routes for different types of rider. Routes are fetched from the CycleStreets website. You can switch the route type after planning it, and can save and rename and organise routes. HILLS? NO PROBLEM! The journey planner knows about hills, and finds routes that take advantage of the descents and avoids the ascents where possible. It balances these against the available road types. The route can be displayed on a map with contours using the OpenCycleMap option. STAGE-BY-STAGE ITINERARY As well as the main map view, planned routes are loaded into an itinerary view, so you can follow each part of the journey. The street name, time and length are all shown, as is a detailed map for each individual stage of the journey. Routes are saved so you can also follow them again later. PHOTOMAP The Photomap is a cycling advocacy tool used by campaign groups around the country. Use it to browse examples of problems or good practice, and add your own pictures. Need more cycle parking in your favourite spot in town? Sign in with a free account and add a photo of it to the Photomap. OPENSTREETMAP Routing makes use of OpenStreetMap data, the brilliant 'geo-wiki' to which you can contribute. Note that, at present, some areas of the country have better coverage than others. Streets and paths of all kinds, including Sustrans routes and Local Authority network, are included. Routing quality is being developed all the time, with new types of cycling and street data being added and interpreted by the route planner. Thanks to Neil Edwards for his hard work on this release.

Reviews of CycleStreets journey planner

  • Can I give a 0 star

Maybe this app was made in 2008 cuz it has a nasty small squarish aspect ratio. Difficult to use. Laggy. Not smart. Was hoping to find a cycling planner app better than Strava or Google to help navigate county a-roads in a new area. Absolutely rubbish. Apple, take the app down. It’s not worth being on here.
  • Works in Prague

Just what I was looking for
  • Doesn’t work outside the UK

Looks like an awesome app, but sadly it seems like it only works in the UK. Seems like a massive oversight to make the app not work anywhere but the UK.
