Magnificent Dictionary
I've been collecting dictionaries for decades and this this one's a keeper. I know, you may ask: Who the hell needs an Australian dictionary? (that is besides an Australian). Well, all you have to do is watch a sporting event on TV with an Aussie or Kiwi commentator using slang from that part of the world and it quickly becomes very useful. Similarly, read a novel or newspaper and you will be sure to come across all kinds of slang, as well as flora and fauna that you are unfamiliar with. While a google search might give you a result, this dictionary gives you an authoritative result from Australia's premier dictionary publisher. Excruciatingly poor excuse for an app!
I had hoped for so much from my beloved Macquarie dictionary, and instead I'm appalled by this app. Of the dozen dictionary apps I have, it is hands down the worst. In fact, it's one of the most pathetic apps I've ever encountered. The developers say they're working on improvements; I sincerely hope so.
So, here's what's good about the app: the content of the dictionary itself.
Here's what's bad: everything else. The only way to find a word is to type its first letters then start scrolling through the entire matching list (too bad if you don't know how to spell the word). There is no other way to access the content. And once you've scrolled through the list to find a match, you have to scroll all the way back up to rediscover the search box.
I feel terribly ripped off by this sham of an app. Shame on you, Macquarie!Show lessrosevines
