Why no pitch accent?

The Chinese part is really great. The Japanese would be really great if it included pitch accent.

The best lower-intermediate Chinese app

I spent so much time trying to find a decent solution. The big apps never did it. Not enough character reading, not enough new vocabulary, etc

This app has solved all my needs. I have been able to memorize 1000 words, and their characters in the amount of time that it took me to learn my first 300 characters alone

It’s amazing. Try it

Bug in 5.2.8 Needs to Be Fixed

I formerly rated this app 5 stars but unfortunately a bug in the most recent version is driving me crazy. I use the return key to hit the “Next” on the iPad app with an external keyboard. Unfortunately, in 5.2.8, you have to hit return twice to select next. When you are reviewing hundreds of words per session, this extra stroke up adds up quickly and my hands have started to hurt due to the extra stress of this repetitive motion. I hope this is fixed quickly and I can revert my review to 5 stars because other than this one super annoying bug the app is wonderful.

Chinese-The Best

After searching and using 99% of the Chinese apps, this is in my top 5. It’s the most well rounded and user friendly course that actually helps early intermediate students continue inhaling vocabulary and sentences mining in an interesting way.

I’m hoping that the developers continue to build on the Chinese courses because they’re sitting on a gold mine. Genuine Chinese language apps for the early intermediate self learner are scarce and this is the best on the market in my opinion.

Worth the cost

I’m one of those procrastinators who studies for a few months and then stops for...more. During my non-procrastination time, iKnow has always given me the best learning rate of any tool. Everything has sentences, with full audio, Japanese text is always bigger than English text. Premade courses, a mode to study all your courses together, and my favorite thing: a sentence listening mode.

Great for people like me who can listen along while working or working out. Passive learning when you are doing something else is better than no learning. It’s too bad the PC version doesn’t have it.

The subscription cost keeps me longer before I fall back into bad habits (no app can fix my laziness but this one holds me the longest). It’s just easier to be motivated longer when you have to pay and get your money’s worth !

It’s in big thanks to this app that I can play video games in Japanese.

Things I would love to see in the future: for each course to have a “story”, or multiple, that utilizes most of the vocabulary that was in said course. Sentences are great, but having short stories to test my understanding with would be even more awesome.

And for the PC version to someday get the sentence listening mode.

本当上手!

My Japanese is not the best it can be right now, but with iKnow’s help my vocabulary has been improving remarkably. I am edging closer to fluency, thanks in big part to this app.

An excellent app

I love this app! It’s fantastic to be able to hear how to pronounce and use the words you are learning in a sentence.

It would be even better if they could incorporate a mnemonics system to help you to remember the kanji.

I am currently using this app and a few books to create mnemonics to remember the kanji I am learning.

One minor gripe - I wish that the price of pro was listed in £/$ rather than yen as I had to look up the currency conversion before taking the plunge and purchasing pro.

Overall a very well made app and I will use it for a long time.

Ok, but not enough of a trial to purchase.

It seems like a decent app, but 5 ‘sessions’ or quizzes is not enough for me to decide if I want to pay a steep subscription fee. I’d need at leas a few weeks to try it out.

Good but not great

If only it gave you an option to learn by Kana and switch off the Kanji. Frustrating as a beginner to use Kanji when you study hiragana and katakana and all words and sentences have Kanji included. Not well thought through for the user.

Thanks for your comment. As we grow, we hope to be able to improve the Japanese learning features.
