  • Virtual printshop

A great and pretty thorough depiction of letterspace experience.
Would definitely benefit from an inclusion of spacers in every typecase though.
  • Love it

I've been waiting for this app for a while now. Although I just purchased it, I can tell that it was worth the wait. Hopefully there will be more typeface, borders, and designs in the future. I'd give you 5 stars but you raised way more $ than you were going for and are still charging $5(?) yes, it is worth $5, but where is the rest of the money you raised going?

Great for vintage style prints! I'm looking forward to creating !!

Lettermpress is one of the most beautifully-designed apps I've seen for the iPad. The typefaces are lovely, and the dingbats and images are wonderful. The app's UI is a striking vintage letterpress with (mostly) vintage actions - no cutting and pasting here. I've been taken with the app, toying happily for hours on end.

Now - the shortcomings: Motions- altering the orientation of furniture and dingbats is frustratingly awkward. Explanations- functions of items aren't fully explained. I've never worked a letterpress, but I've watched artists work at Hatch Show in Nashville, so I know just enough to be infatuated and curious. The 'lockup' pieces aren't explained well, despite my attempts to figure them out. Aside from that, in the future, I would hope for more images and dingbats, particularly seasonal sets.

I can't wait for more from John Bonadies. This app is astounding, and I hope there's more to come.

  • Lovely app.

Lovely app. Takes a bit of getting used to but i believe the devs intended it to be as similar to real world letterpresses as possible. Results are well worth the effort.
  • Get This. Make Stuff.

I got excited about this app as soon as the Kickstarter project opened and it has not disappointed. It's obvious that this was made by people who really care about the letterpress process.

The only thing I feel it is missing is some instructions for people such as myself who have never worked with letterpress for real. The proper use of things like magnets and quoins, for instance, is kind of lost on me. And some of the interface tricks such as triple-tapping to remove pieces took a while to figure out. So a brief guide to interactions like that, and an overview of the use of all these virtual items I've never touched would help.

But for a 1.0 release it's so good. I wish I'd given them more Kickstarter money now.

  • Almost!

This is awesome. Having used a similar press in real life, I love the authenticity of the sounds, type, and quoins. A few wishes for updates: leading to space lines of type, more lowercase letters, and a way to make all letters the same size for printing uniformly. I look forward to using this in my mixed media art!

  • Great App for Type Lovers

This app capture the experience of setting wood type. I backed this on kickstarter and have been very impressed with the whole program. It saves out large png files. Nice work
  • Brilliant App

Downloaded this this morning and can't stop using it...have my own letterpress studio and this is going to be a great addition to the real thing - means I can print anywhere, anytime, and I don't have to worry about cleaning up! Use of transparent inks is amazing. Great tool for helping to work out designs. Have yet to print out the results, so will do a follow up review. Would have loved a wider selection of type faces, but I guess that's just being greedy! Thanks for this app, just made my iPad purchase a whole lot more worth while.

  • One of a kind

I supported this through Kickstarter because it looked fantastic! It is a bit tricky, but with practice it gets easier. It's everything the developers said it was. Great job can't can't wait to see some updates and a few tweaks. Keep up the excellent work!
  • It's good but not perfect yet.

Honest review. Probably my most anticipated app so far. It's fun to play with, but is frustrating at times. For one, it's crashed several times now. And when it does, it loses al your work up until the last time to closed the app.

I jumped right into using the app. I feel that a well designed product doesn't need instructions to be able to use. You should be able to understand it without much digging around. Like others, triple tapping deletes blocks. I didn't know, and in the process of trying to move stuff, I'd delete a letter without knowing how I did it.

Moving and resizing of letters takes a lot a patients if you want it to be perfect. It's hard to get all the letters the same size, if you resize them. Aligning is the same way. But with patients, you can get it. You won't be able to get it right away.

It's a great 1.0 version. And cant wait to see where it goes. But the crashes after spending a good 20 minutes on a design is just a big mood killer.

    iPad 2 32gb wi-fi only, latest firmware.
