This app works on the iPad2 and not the older iPads because the new camera auto focuses well enough to read a bar code. We tested with sample print-at-home tickets (and even a laptop display of the PDF) and it works flawlessly, but we're looking forward to trying it overseas. It would be nice to have a dedicated iPad version, instead of just the iPhone version, so it could be switched to landscape mode, but zoom is available, so it's not horrible.
Remember... YOU NEED TO HAVE A CONSTANT WEB CONNECTION FOR THIS TO WORK. All scanning submits directly to the same BPT server, preventing tickets from being scanned more than once (protecting from copies), no matter how many scanners are used at the door. We chose to buy an iPad 2 with 3G, in case the Wi-Fi connection isn't reliable enough.
WARNING! There are two versions of all iPad 3G models! The Apple version is "unlocked," with an interchangeable ATT (GSM) SIM already installed. I installed a rented SIM for 3G service in that country for $5/day, 4-day minimum. Verizon makes only "locked" versions with just their (CDMA) SIM installed permanently (at least for non-technicians). The label on the back of the box will tell you if it's Verizon or not.
I'll try to report back later this month after our show's over.
