Works As Advertised

Truecaller like many spam blockers for iPhone uses an AI “Assistant” that deals with all calls that usually go to iPhone’s voicemail. This fine but under settings for Assistant that an option not to deal with any calls from callers in the iPhone contacts if you choose. The problem is that because the app uses call forwarding to send calls to the Truecaller servers, it is not possible to exclude calls from contacts. You can get the iPhone voicemail back by dialing a number listed under the Screen My Calls button. This disables the call forwarding which connects Assistant to your cellular traffic. In short, it is not possible to use Assistant and exclude calls from your contacts. It is one or the other. If you like Truecaller handling all voicemail that’s fine. Really, the Assistant function is what screens the telephone calls.

Not That Effective

I haven’t been that impressed with the app. They want to sell you the paid version, so naturally the free version is kind of lame. The app is stable and I haven’t noted any glitches, but It only seems to “catch” (i.e., successfully id as a spam call) somewhere around 1 in 10 of the spam calls I actually receive (of which I get maybe one every day or every other day). And oddly, I always seem to GET a spam call - not caught - soon after I do an ‘update’... So not something I’d spend money on. Using a weak & marginally effective app to lure you into buying the paid version seems like a strange marketing tactic to me. ‘Will probably uninstall. Just had an update today. And just like clockwork minutes after the download I got a “portfolio recovery” spam call. TC identified it as spam, but how did they happen to get the number at just that time in the first place? ALWAYS happens after a TC update - not after other app updates. It’s like downloading & installing a TC update sends out some kind of “beacon” to spamcallers.

True caller

I love true caller and I think it’s great too have okay. But there is one problem I have with true caller and would like it resolved. And that is the fact I have too pay too see who is profiling my account now obviously it’s safe too a certain extent. But you should make the security a lot stronger so that people cannot profile my account. I feel like the is in breach of the privacy laws so I’d love you too fix this and make it free too see who is looking at my profile. If you truly made this network too help people then you will see it my way. If you only made the network too make money then you won’t agree

Can’t use it without subscription.

It is not free anymore.

Identified medical text messages as Spam

I’ve been going off this app for a while but I have just discovered two months worth of very important text messages to do with medical appointments and also household repairs that were filtered to spam without any notification - while I still received daily driving toll spam texts. I cannot stress how much inconvenience and potential danger this may have caused. For a while I found this helpful but never again, hence a generous three stars rather than a 1 or 2

Doesn’t block jack

My iPhone does a better job of blocking unwanted calls then this app. Doesn’t auto update unless you pay. Shows who viewed your profile which is lame attempt to solicit money. Shows advertising if you try to report a number. Doesn’t use the feature to auto report number through iOS (sms/call reporting) and now shows premium requiered to see who may of called you. Not worth all the extra hassle and pushy way they want money. Doesn’t work well. Doesn’t auto update and makes it a challenge to simple update list which doesn’t work since most numbers are simple spoofed. 👎

Hmm

They take all your details and want access to a heap of things and want you to enable 4 applications but don’t say what they are. Once you have done all of that, they then tell you that it’s free to use for 7 days(I guess in exchange for all the data mining they have already done, now that you have given them so much access and information), and then want to charge $9 a month which to me is very expensive. I get maybe 1 call a week, that makes it $2.25 a call, when I could simply not answer it and search google for two seconds. I cannot rate the app itself as I’ve not used it, but the pay wall is not something I’m willing to accept. Too many other dodgy companies out there trying to take your cash for me to trust anyone these days.

No upgrade if you pay

I paid for an upgrade and I received it temporarily. Then when I enquired as to what’s happening through the support section . I got the run around. They didn’t want to know about it and told me I had to Aquire and supply certain information & email every to someone else . Why not simply lift at the account profile surely all information required is available at best a screenshot of my subscription saying I’m fully upgrade and current is the absolute most required from me . Nothing but problems with this app from the beginning to now . It’s a joke

Subpar App & Fraudulent Reoccurring Charges

I tried this app for the first time back in January 2023 to help combat spam calls. At the time, the app was a bit buggy, and the incoming calls always had a fair amount of VoIP grain. That said, when I cancelled my subscription in March 2023, it has been a full calendar year and I’m STILL getting charges on my card for monthly AND yearly subscription payments. I have tried everything, calling their customer support and being on hold for 45 min to have the call end. Emailing their customer support, to have them tell me that it’s cancelled. To having so far as to report fraudulent charges to my CC company, and now, a year later and nearly $200 of reoccurring subscriptions that I haven’t authorized I finally had to report my card as stolen and get a new card.

AVOID this app, they will steal your money, and tell you that your subscription is cancelled and then keep charging you.

Response from developer

Hi there! Thanks for writing! To share background, we don’t automatically block calls/SMS on iOS because iOS doesn’t give any notifications for blocked calls/SMS. Please enable these settings for a more reliable Caller ID experience: iPhone Settings > Phone > Call Blocking & Identification > Enable Truecaller Part 1, 2 3 and 4. Please regularly update the spam list in Truecaller > Spam ID. For automatically updating the list and access to the Extended top spammer's list, please upgrade to Truecaller Premium. Here are the steps to block: There are two simple ways to block a phone number: - From the call log > Tap on the! > Scroll down to find “Block & Report”. - To manually add a number to your personal blocklist > Open Truecaller > More > My block list > tap on the plus icon in the upper right-hand corner > add number. *Important, you will NOT know if the person has called or texted. For more questions, please write to us at support@truecaller.com. Thanks //NHTeam Truecaller

Hiding Important Texts

Ever since downloading and allowing this, important texts from companies such as text authentication codes and AusPost updates have been marked as junk/spam and been getting sent to such folder, allowing me no notifications and knowledge of these texts unless I go check that folder. I’ve disabled it as it’s just making my texting experience worse, but now I am stuck with “Maybe Spam/Junk” next to these contacts due to the flagging that I was unaware of for my whole time using this. Definitely don’t recommend, too risky with making you miss important texts like I have been due to this.
