Educational AND fun
Very good app!
The positives: As a teacher, I love that I can tailor the parameters to what a student knows and/or needs to work on. I have used it in a few lessons already and I've seen clear improvement after a few rounds. Having the ability to email the settings to the student is a feature I would never have imagined but have already used. The "derby" itself is fun and the graphics are pretty good. You can set it to letter names, piano keys, or both.
The negatives: the booing has got to go. I would never "boo" a student for making a mistake, and although older students might find it funny, it's way too harsh for young kids. This would be a 5-star review if not for the booing!
Suggestions: I would like to see the treble and bass clefs extended out by an octave. I could see adding an alto clef option at some point. Finally, why isn't there an option for the jockey to be a girl??Show lessklw515

I was excited to find this app to help my 4 year old daughter read notes better. She plays the piano and is beginning to read notes, but isn't fluent yet, so I thought this app might help. (She reads on a 3rd grade level, so I think she is capable of learning how to read notes.) Most kid apps we have are encouraging and use positive reinforcement. If you miss a question, you are encouraged to try again, and when you get it right, there's some sort of positive reinforcement. However, in this app, if you answer incorrectly, you hear "boo" sounds and unless you get all questions right, you lose and a sad tune is played. It's not encouraging at all and makes her not want to try again. If this was fixed, it would be a great app. But not as is.Show lessmusician_mom

As a piano teacher I find this app invaluable. I'm giving it 4 stars just because it would be perfect if there was the option to remove time limit and also have the internal mic listen to the piano to select correct note (like DustBuster).Cubemusic
