Why did I support them early on? RENTWARE

Was a good app years ago… I paid a reasonable sum to support what looked like a good alternative weather app.

What a waste. I helped them get started with my $$ now they want yearly fees as much or more than original purchase. —— I just needed a second or third view of weather coming my way. So now I have to stick with the free TV apps. Maybe someday there will be som low cost decent weather apps without all the bells and whistles for the rest of us. >>> I feel cheated for supporting them when they were small now to be told… thanks sucker! So sad you can’t pay our freight anymore🥱 It was attitudes by developers like this in the 1990s that led to piracy. People laid out funds for good HW only to find they couldn’t afford the SW. ——Maybe too many young people don’t budget to realize they’re buying a new iPhone 16 pro every year in rentware fees.

I hate this app

I hate free apps which are constantly trying to sell their paid app version

Hurricane Helene

During the hurricane in Florida, and stuff I was hoping that the residents survived, but a few died due to how powerful it was,I am in Alberta praying for all of the residents.

Keeps jumping back to my location

Update: I was just reminded of my rating via email because the app developer reached out and wants more information to resolve the issue. I would like to report that this has not happened for a while now and I am happy to give this app a 5 star rating. Thanks for this awesome app!

Original post: I’ve been using this app for a few years now, it’s been nothing short of great. In the last few months, when I open the app and it shows my location, but if I try to move out of my area or zoom out to see where a storm is, it will jump back to my location. The only fix I found was to delete the app and reinstall. I did this one and will try again. This issue is NOT happening on my fiancé’s phone. I’m not sure why it’s happening to me. I will try the same method before and hope that it works again. If there was another radar that was better or equal, I would uninstall it and be done, but this app is superior to all, and I just want it to work correctly. Please advise if there’s something you know of that could be causing this for me when it’s not for others. I want to give this app the 5 stars it deserves.

My go to weather app for well over a decade - but the constant pop up subscription notifications. 😒

I’ve paid and used this app since around 2012, had it on my ancient iPhone 4, 5..my original IPad. Been great for the most part. UI changed which is fine. Developers listened when they remove lightning strikes and brought it back in an update, much appreciated.

I’ll STILL use this app, just FYI…. the past few months when I open the app, I’ll have no weather at all showing, only a blank map. I have to totally close it and reopen to fix that “bug”. ….but THEN the pop up notifications to pay for subscription, and review - enter my email address (when I already did a few times), it’s annoying.

Annoying Pop Ups

Like everyone else, I am here to complain about the incessant popups. I BOUGHT this app several years ago when it cost $1 and had no ads or subscription services to offer. It’s not my fault that you couldn’t sustain that business model, the transaction was complete and the product is mine. You don’t get to just come along and take back someone’s product that they paid for, the same way Apple would have no right to start charging me a monthly fee after several years to use my computer. One dollar or not, it was my product.

I do not appreciate these incessant popups asking me to subscribe to your subscription service. If it were an honest service, you wouldn’t have to do it in a scummy way by sometimes having a small X in the top right corner, and other times having a small “not now” link at the bottom. You’re clearly desperate to get people to sign up, and the more you bug me about it the more I will say NO. If this were an honest company I would consider it, but you have to use scummy tactics like a timeshare salesman. You also stole my product that I already paid for.

I will be finding a new radar app and I suggest others do the same. This radar company is scummy and I would not recommend it.

Downhill

I’ve had this app for years. In the beginning, it was great. What is available now is a shell of the former app. Originally, I’d purchased the premium version. Then, after about a year ALL the features of premium were stripped, and a subscription model was released. So, even thought one had already paid for the app you now had to pay for it AGAIN, and the price significantly increased. Now, with the most recent update, when you open the app you are confronted with a screen to purchase the app with the selection already made for you, with a teeny tiny button at the bottom you have to search for to say “no thanks”. That’s so pushy and borderline unethical. Then, you’re asked to give your email now?! Again…no thanks. So, 2 pop ups before you even see the map, very few features, and constant pressure to SUBSCRIBE to an app that essentially just siphons NOAA website maps into an app. Yeah, I’m deleting this app seeing as how it doesn’t provide anything unique and is slowly getting worse.

Expensive Nagware but better

Update: They have quickly addressed my main concerns. Location icons are smaller. I’ve opened the app several times without being asked to purchase. Thank you!
Original: The radar is great. As of April 2024, recent design change releases are not improvements. I have a lot of saved locations and the icons have become so big that I can’t see the radar map when zoomed out. The now constant nagging for in-app purchases, pretty much every time I open the app, is super frustrating. The growing clutter of unwanted links and feature upgrade buttons on most every menu is getting in the way of checking the weather. Please shrink the location icons or make them disappear when zoomed out and quiet the solicitations. And the new non-weather “discover” tab is just annoying. The developer has gone from one-time purchase to subscription making this purchased app an exercise in frustration without further subscribing at a steep ~$50/year which I have to assume would eliminate the now prominent nagging and make it wonderful. $50/year from even just 20,000 iPhone subscribers would be fantastic if you can get it ($1M/year).
