Not as good as the os one
Useful but it only gives you two options for location services, either on all the time or never on which I think means it's draining the battery on my phone or it might just be were in the mountains and the phone is constantly trying to get a signal? The os app for the uk is better as it has an option which allows you only to use location services when the app is in use.

Our favorite app!!!
As avid hikers, my wife and I love OutDoors GPS France. The GPS tracking is first rate, we love planning our routes and the best feature - access to the IGN maps. We're particularly fond of the new subscription service which provides access to all the maps.
The Best App for Hiking
This is by far the best app to use for places that have no wifi. My friends and I love biking and have found many new views and beautiful trails because of this app. Thank you
Luckily I only wasted my time!
Don't waste yours. Slow and glitchy. Couldn't subscribe to online maps or make any intra-app purchases. App often couldn't contact server at outdoorsgps. emailed developers. No reply.
IGN offline maps anywhere in France
I downloaded app but can not connect to the map store. I get a cannot connect to the outdoors gps server.
Update: By restarting my iPad 3 it takes me to the home page and I can connect and download maps
So I was able to download a specific offline map yesterday when I got connected. I needed to email support to find where the map is stored and they responded promptly.
A nice feature is you can chose from 3 sizes to download exactly the area you are interested in. Once downloaded, you can access offline while traveling. Now you can have offline maps for non urban areas.

le great
The maps in this are just great, just like the top25 and top100 paper maps you can buy - beats the hell out of google maps for when you actually need to see something other than roads. I have just tried the online maps but will have to download the local area for next time we visit !
Good Functions- lovely IGN maps
This is a really well put together app which makes the IGN maps look superb. There are cheaper options but this seems to be the best for serious hikers. Here are some of the Pros and Cons;
Pros:
- Minute I opened the app, I could view all IGN maps for the whole country- just what you want
- Options between viewing online and downloading
- Unlike cheaper options- the maps can be actually permanently downloaded to the device (rather than temporary storage)- I like the idea that I've got the map and it's MINE for ever! No danger this way of the maps being lost of worse- me and my family being lost!!
- No need to continue subscribing to the online maps once you've downloaded the maps.
- Great options for recording and moving routes around - the online route builder thing seems pretty useful.
- Looks great on an iPad
- Online maps are super fast
- I've been for a hike south of Calais already and it worked great- drew up the route before I went
Cons:
- Downloading maps is more expensive than viewing them online (no surprise there)
- You get a month of free viewing but after than you have to either subscribe or download your maps
- There's a lot of functionality so it takes a while to get used to the interface
- The online route builder on their website only does Google and OS
All in, does exactly what you want a GPS and mapping product to do. Not cheap but fairly easy to use and something I can trust on a hike with my family.

excellent value
I found this because I am a long time user of the OutDoors GB app, and while I mostly do my walking in the UK I occasionaly hop across the water so thought I would give this a go.
So far so good! Whole of country maps for £2 is a good start, and then you can subscribe for a year. I downloaded a map in Normandy for offline use and it worked a treat. Expect the usual GPS features which let you follow or record a route along with viewing on the outdoors website.

Looks great
Just downloaded this having been a big fan of UK version. Looks great and reasonably priced, access to detailed maps throughout France is a real plus and ability to download a map for exactly the area I want is a great plus on the UK version - cant wait to get over to France to use it!
