Best dictionary ever. I love it . Mag/AnnGreat aid!
I use this on Wordscapes when I get stuck. The letters are there but staring at them after a while I start to go crazy I just put one in here and the number of spaces I have and search away. 9 out of 10 times I find what I’m looking forWord finder
Really enjoying the updates and new features you’ve added. Thank you!New upgrade
Outstanding! What a brilliant change. I love it. Thanks.Disappointed
I’m having real issues with this site since I updated yesterday, I’m being bombarded with nonsense about purchasing anagrams which I do not want , also when I type in my letters and try to get a result, the site goes to definition whereas before I had the choice of definition and definition on google because I’m not in a great reception area , this is time consuming to get to where I want
I’m extremely disappointed with this experience given that prior to my update the site was brilliantShow lessDeveloper Response
I’m sorry the changes didn’t work for you. The old dictionary was supplied by Apple, as part of iOS, and it was that dictionary that supplied the all the old features. Sadly in iOS 13 Apple broke their dictionary, such that it would take about 5 seconds to look up the word, and then another 5 seconds to respond to the button to close the window. I had loads of complaints because it was broken and everyone thought it was my app that was the problem. I waited for a couple of updates, but they still haven't fixed it. I noticed that although Apple used to offer the option to look up definitions in their own apps, they've now removed that option. So I think they just don't care about the dictionary any longer, and may never fix it. So I had to look for an alternative. Most dictionaries are proprietary (because of all the work involved in compiling them) and so charge huge fees to licence them in a product. As the Crossword Solver app is free I can't afford any licence fees. In the end I managed to find WordNet, which is produced by Princeton university, and they allow free use of it in products provided you credit them. I'm reasonably happy with it as it does give definitions, and has definitions for more words than Apple's dictionary ever had. But the format is different, and as you've noticed it isn't quite as flexible. But it's better than having a dictionary that barely worked, and which caused me so much grief in trying to support it, so I think it's a reasonable trade-off. I hope that explains better why I had to make the change. Regards, RichardGreat app for crossword people
Have used this app for long enough to slightly get the guilts for not purchasing it and/or not leaving a review. Having just paid the nominal amount for the upgrades and leaving this review the world is better.
Love the app, use it every time there is a crossword in sight and it helps a lot.My crossword friend
Useful is how I would describe this app. There is often one or two answers I cannot get, and when I have no one handy to ask, I use this very useful app. It means I can get the satisfaction of finishing a crossword...even though I know I’ve not really done it without help! Thank you!Almost a good product
It will provide a list of words that match the known letters and spaces entered but frequently will return an error message of no entry found when you click on a suggested word. You can go back a step and pick look up on the internet but if it’s just told you a word, why isn’t there an entry to match it?
Features I like are that you can can enter all the known Letters of a string of words ignoring the spaces and it will find the best match and also that you type a space for the unknown letters, which I think is logical.Show lessDeveloper Response
My app includes the UKACD word list to search for words, which has lots of obscure words that crossword setters like! But it doesn’t include definitions, so when you tap to look up a definition it activates iOS’s built in dictionary. Unfortunately that only has common words, not the more obscure words. I’m working on an update to include definitions in the app itself. The new dictionary I’m using still has omissions, but it will enable me to check in advance if a definition is missing, and automatically redirect you to the internet if that happens, meaning it will be a one-step process. Hopefully the new update will be ready in the next few weeks. Hope that helps. Regards, RichardA fantastic app - reliable and well maintained
Love this app and use it a lot. The developer is very responsible and keeps abreast (and often ahead) of Apple’s little quirks. Thank you so much.Crossword finder
I only use it when I'm stuck but it almost always helps. (I don't do cryptic crosswords but as I realise you have an anagram finder too, I might even try it)Very helpful for even the most difficult crosswords !
