  • Made my rig more live

I’m using this to control an assortment of hardware & software (iPad) synths & Nord Electro for my live rig. A bit of a learning curve but well worth the effort! iPad rules all now - with AUM and MidiFire Stream Byter in-between.
  • The best of what’s out there

Robust, customizable, advanced and very easy to use. Highly recommend it

  • Great for key commands

Using MIDI Designer Pro I built an interface with literally hundreds of controls that operate all the Logic key commands that I commonly use. It really helps my workflow. I also included faders for recording control data to control my third party plugins. I love it.
  • Controlling Roland Integra 7 B3 organ drawbars…

So far so good! Used it to send sysex midi commands to control the organ drawbars, Leslie, etc. on the Integra 7 and it’s been working well. I still have more to investigate regarding other uses.

Thanks so much for this kind review! Glad to hear it's working for the organ use-case on the Integra 7... hope the rest of the investigation went well. Best! Dan Rosenstark :: Author & CEO :: MIDI Designer :: Confusion Studios
  • Needs better templates and standardized menu structure

The software has so much potential, but is held back by the cluttered and ugly templates provided with it. Please provide more streamlined button-only templates, provide blank templates, forget the awful color schemes, and follow standard apple app methodology for the menu structure. Templates shared between different iPad sizes don’t scale gracefully as they should. There is also no reason at all to restrict controls to one MIDI message type and make the max MIDI sequence length so short. I would rather use an app that has a simple grid of screen buttons with easy access to MIDI learning functions and that’s it. 90% of the rest of this app just gets in the way by trying to be everything to everyone.

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts about MIDI Designer Pro 2. It seems you have a lot of valuable insights to share. How, for instance, would you scale to different iPad sizes "more gracefully?" How should we "forget the awful color schemes" (which are generated randomly)? Should we instruct our users -- who provide 100% of the layouts with the App -- to provide less-cluttered and more pretty layouts? How? We'd love to know more. Please get in touch at support [at] mididesigner [dot] com to discuss if you can. Thanks again for using and loving MDP2.
  • Best app for Virtual Organs

MidiDesigner Pro is the best midi controller app for Virtual Organs such as Hauptwerk (HW) and GrandOrgue (GO). Its capabilities are far better than traditional organ controller interfaces such as Touchscreen Monitors, Launchpad, Touch OSC, Luna Display, etc. Coupled with Stream Byter it allows many enhanced functions not possible with HW or GO by themselves. While there is a bit of learning curve, it is worth it.

I have developed such layouts as custom button placement, master generals and Combo steppers with PreSet starting steps to allow one touch selection and Up/Down sequencing of steps, Automatic registration setting, etc, None of this functionality would be possible without MidiDesigner Pro. I have worked with several organists to develop layouts for different organs who are extremely happy with using MDP. I have strong recommendations for organists to try it out.

  • The best

For me, It’s the best midi controller you can find on iOS. You can download a lot of layout at the forum.
  • KILLER!!!!!!!!

Total show control. Multiple apps, multiple iPads, video output, the best $40 ever spent. DESTROYS Lemur, and unlike Lemur, these guys are constantly improving it.
  • Waste of money

Absolute, absolute, absolute garbage. Got to be the worst app I’ve ever spent money on . Want my money back

    Developer Response

Sorry to hear about your experience. This review contains no information about what made you feel like MIDI Designer Pro 2 is "absolute garbage." We would love to learn more about what aspects of the App didn't work for you. Please contact us at support [at] mididesigner [dot] com if you want. Hope the App Store was able to process your refund: Apple has been quite good about refunds for dissatisfied customers. Hope you got it sorted and looking forward to an email from you. Best of luck in your music making!
  • The best featured MIDI Controller for Eurorack

I spent most of the last 5 days building a touch controller for my Eurorack. I started with OSC but stopped using that when I discovered it doesn’t do 14 bit CC, SysEx or anything than basic messages. I looked at a few others but these again had limited implementation.
I found MidiDesigner and it has almost everything I need!
It does Regular cc, 14 bit cc, nrpn, sysex, midi transport. When I finished doing the basics I wanted one button to send a mute to the others, it has that! And it has presets! This is great on Eurorack, I can setup my CV modulators and save them, really lots of potential.
I use my setup with an Expert Sleepers ES-9, the FH-1 and a couple of Disting MK4s.
All editing is done on the iPad, it has CoreMidi and midi over Bluetooth LE.
