  • Not very useful

Tried to use this app on many occasions during recent trip to Tokyo, it did not recognize the majority of the fonts used in restaurants. When it was able to translate, the translation was laughable.
I would not recommend this app.
  • Buy it again and again

It works, and I paid for lifetime use. However, the app installs on other devices as the unpaid limited version. So the unlocked iPhone I want to bring to use in China does not have the full version, nor does the iPad I intend on bringing. I have e-mailed the Waygo folks several times and have not heard back about how to utilize the lifetime use on other devices, or if in fact you must pay $7 for every device. I have never heard of an app that requires separate purchases to unlock features on multiple devices.

  • Useful app

Not perfect, but really useful app.
  • Is getting me through China!

I use this app every day (upgraded to full version and best couple of bucks I've spent on an app in a long time). I can decipher menus and store items that would have left me more than confused. Things aren't black and white but a few key words will let you decide if you want chicken or intestines at a restaurant!

  • Huge improvement

Don't normally leave reviews, but I've been so impressed with Waygo since the latest update that I thought I would.

I first downloaded it almost a year ago, and on my old iPhone 4 it suffered massive speed issues, both in how long it took the app to load (about 30 secs) and how long it took to make a translation. Translating a whole menu would take you ages.

As a result, I didn't find myself using it very often.

I now have an iPhone 6, and with the latest update, Waygo has become phenomenal. The app loads quickly now, and it can translate multiple lines of a menu in a split second.

I live in a very local area of China with no English. I went into a restaurant for lunch today which had no pictures or English. And using Waygo, I was able to translate the entire menu in seconds. I was very impressed and will start using it a lot more than I have, because this app has just become very, very good. If you live in China, it's now certainly worth the £4.99 upgrade.

  • Helpful

Find this helpful when away and needing to translate menu or signs.
Downside :Sometimes struggles with reflections on shiny surfaces, occasional words in the Japanese one come up no translation while we have used it out shopping.
Up side: very quick, easy to use and can be used off line.
  • Good for restaurants and cafés

I have tried it on several different menus in china. It does what it says, translating words on menus. And that's why I need this. So many places to eat in china don't have English menus. So in my case this app is fantastic for daily use. it can be hit and miss which is why I'm giving it 1 less star, otherwise it's great because it's a translating app which doesn't need internet connection and works on the go.

  • Not for Japanese

I downloaded this app to see if it works, and if it does, then to use it for Chinese. Since I already speak Japanese, I decided to test it out.
I would say this app gets it right 40-50% of the time. Mostly it translates extremely literally to a point where it doesn't make sense in English, gets the pronunciation wrong, or doesn't read the right kanjis. But then again it works for some words. I would say don't rely on it too much, but use it if you need to. I don't know for the Chinese.

  • Accurate to a point

Not entirely accurate however read between the lines, use the context of the situation and your own judgement and it's great. Kickstarts the understanding of this complicated language (Chinese). Thank you for developing this great app.
  • Fast and accurate

This app is perfect for translating Chinese (haven’t tried Japanese). I live in China, and I can verify that the app is nearly always accurate on menus and signs. You see the translation right over the original (augmented reality). In addition, it’s extremely fast, and works offline. I can’t even imagine how sophisticated the tech must be that went into this. I’ve seen other similar attempts at Optical Character Recognition, and none of them work as well.
