  • A beautiful game that deserves way more attention than it gets

First, I must admit, that though I got lucky one day and purchased this game for free, I would gladly pay for it if given the opportunity. Nihilumbra is one of those games that leave in imprint in your mind even after you've played it to completion (though disclaimer: I haven't beaten void mode). In Nihilumbra, you play as a remnant of a dark entity known as The Void, who is on a quest to become something more than the thing that birthed it. It's simple but engaging story and music along with beautiful visuals make for a truly memorable experience. Though most of puzzles, though sometimes difficult, aren't game breaking when you sit through and think them out, however, there were a few puzzles that required a couple rounds of trial and error that definitely grated on my nerves a bit. Even so, every time I failed, I became that much more determined to try again. I wanted to see this thoughtful tale through to the end, and ultimately, I did. In the end, I strongly recommend this game if you want a beautiful platformer with an equally beautiful story.

  • Absolutely marvelous

I had the great joy of stumbling upon this game and I feel like it's impacted my life in some way. I have Depression, and I could relate to the overall theme of this game. I'm not going to give too much away, but the main goal is to acquire new colors (new powers) With each learned color, you become more immersed in the gameplay & you see the main character start to find his place in the world. It's an incredible game. You start out feeling like you're alone in the world; nothing but an outcast. But as the game progresses, you discover more ways to tackle obstacles & move forward. This game is amazing. I absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a game with a decent dialogue. Other than a few typos/grammar mistakes from translation, this game is flawless & definitely earns a spot in my "Never Delete" folder. Thank you for creating this. 5/5

  • Good at first, great second half

The game is really beautiful and the story is neat, but the first half of the game is pretty simplistic. But once you "beat" the game, you open up an entirely new game, a new challenge. You are replaying the worlds you already completed, but this time they are totally different, and much, much more difficult. It's really like an entirely different board, set in the same world. That's where the real fun begins, and you have to use your full brain power and dexterity to get through this second half. It's almost like you have to earn the real game by playing the first half. Not a bad idea. Haven't beaten that part yet but look forward to seeing where it takes me!

  • Super fun... At the end

This game is a one star game for most of the entire preliminary game. There is a lot of really cool graphic design but there is way too much exposition and dialogue about stupid metaphysical concepts that have nothing to do with actually playing the game. The game itself is actually not really that hard it just takes a while to play. However, once you complete the game you get to play every level again and the game completely morphs in your hands. It is much harder, much more challenging and completely worth five stars. I would say it's one of my favorite games in the second phase because of the challenges it poses and the imagination required to complete the game. On the whole three stars: one for beauty, 10 for the enjoyment of the game during the second phase then subtracting eight for the annoyance in getting there.

  • Long review ahead

To be honest, I loved this game and everything it contained. It is definitely worth getting. First, it is an amazing puzzle game and has beautiful graphics and atmosphere. But the story is really deep, too. It's a story about life. How, if you do nothing... You really don't have life. You're somewhat of a... Void. But going through the experiences of life; guilt, pain, happiness, fun, and sorrow; you know that life is difficult, but is worth living. This game isn't all about gameplay. It's about life. Everything has consequences. Going through life, you will come across many troubles and challenges, but it is worth it to feel happiness and... Fullness... Thank you.

You're a trooper if u read all of that ;)

  • An unexpected delight!

I really didn't expect much when it first caught my eye in the app-store; it just had an interesting name and icon. I originally thought the game had a VERY long intro, as it had all the characteristics of a polished demo, complete with better than actual gameplay graphics and engaging storyline... -except the intro never ended. Every moment in the game has clearly been scrutinized for imperfections (as there is none), with the exception of one not so minor glitch: when using the manual controls, you often go in the opposite direction your tapping/holding- quite a disadvantage when your literally racing AWAY from the void. Despite this, the game still manages to be surprising, intriguing, and beautiful. Not many games are good enough to ignore such a flaw, but this is one of them. I can't recommend it enough!

  • Captivating

I'm reviewing this game based on playing it on the latest iPad.

I love this game. The words going across the screen as you explore are a nice touch and it feels as if you're playing through a beautiful storybook.
The game is very inventive in the way you can manipulate your powers in different ways to get to your goal. What I really love about this game though is just when you think the game's over and you're saying "well that was really short" you get a whole new set of levels of increased difficulty. These levels are the ones that really test how inventive you can be with your powers and how well you can multitask. Some of them are quite hard, but when you finish them you feel like you've accomplished something.

I still have some Void levels to finish, but when if my opinion of the game changes at all I'll let you know. But I honestly don't see that happening. This game is a winner in my book.

  • Great game, but sometimes control is glitchy

This is a great game, a lot of really interesting art work and game level design. Will take you quite a time to beat as well. I really liked the gameplay, using the powers of life and nature to help your way through the vast world. The only issues I had were with the controls, I personally did not like the tilt controls at all, so I used the on screen controls. These were better but sometimes didn't register correctly and the jump was sometimes located in a spot where you wanted to manipulate the world. Overall I suggest you try this game out, it is a very beautiful and challenging game.

  • A beautiful story

This game is as beautiful as it is entertaining. The story was as amazing as the artwork, with just the right amount of strategy mixed in. It takes a simple concept, with an excellent form of game play that requires you to use your head a little.
All the while, an unseen narrator twists a story with dioulouge that almost seems inspirational, despite being the voice of doubt. The story is about, simply, you. At least, that is how the narrator refers to you. In truth, you control a piece of 'the void'. When you escape this void to go put and find true meaning and life in your existence, this vast and menacing expanse will stop at nothing to get you back. It sends monsters to capture you, and even will destroy whole worlds. But you slowly learn new ways to stay out of its clutches.
Overall, five stars isn't enough to display my thurough belief that this is one of, if not the, best app I have ever played.

  • Deep iOS experience

Nihilumbra is hands down the single deepest gaming experience on the iOS platform. It's beautiful art style and simple but engaging plot makes the whole experience an incredible emotional roller coaster that you will want to share with anybody who will listen.
The only flaws come in the form of minor translation errors and occasional trouble with trying draw a color near the jump button. But these are insignificant an easily overlooked. Other than that the gameplay is very solid. The platforming is flawless with the games' tight controls and the puzzles have a good range of difficulty.
With that said, I highly recommend buying nihilumbra. It's the only iOS game that will actually make you care about the emotional story element and is worth picking up for anybody who wants something more engaging than a quick time waster.
