  • Excellent app with 1 drawback

I love DMDJ, it lets me add so much depth to my sessions. I ran a game just last night and the players were immediately immersed in the market due to the sound effects and music tracks I was able to combine in the app. There are so many options and environments it's just outstanding and it adds a whole new level of immersion. You can even import your own playlists in a super easy process and have a list of your own situationally appropriate tracks available, complete with the sound effect overlays! My one and only complaint about the app is that is doesn't run in the background. Using my phone a a character sheet and a reference guide means I'm swapping between apps all the time, an without background operation the music cuts out whenever I switch. It goes an picks up right where I left off when I I back, but losing that immersion for a moment is a bummer. Regardless, this is the best RPG music/sound app out there and it's completely worth it. Not to mention the built in dice roller, definitely comes in handy for quickly rolling complex sets of dice or if you forgot yours! Users, pick it up and do your players a favor! Devs, please add a background function!

  • Good Start, Great Potential, Not Quite

I first purchased DMDJ because I really believed in the idea, and I wanted something more efficient and streamlined than running two different mp3 players hooked up to separate speakers. I don't want to waste time flipping through songs or scrolling playlists between scene changes. And, in general, it does do that. Just not quite enough.

I still believe in this product, and I think a few more updates expanding the SFX library to include more diversity and subtlety will really bring it up to snuff. I'd also like to see a broader music selection, as importing ones own music can lead to a dramatically different style and sound, which is a big enough change to count as a distraction. (And I think my group is getting sick of Enya)

A final word, it would greatly help if this app could be expanded to include a function which allows it to continue playing music through background apps, as I use other DMing utilities as well.

  • Mr

Amazing app, great tool for DM's or GM's of any fantasy or Sci-fi table top rpg's. Have used it at the last two sessions I have ran, the huge variety of environments and effects on offer make this a must-have for anyone who wishes to create a truly immersive experience for their players. Great interface, great app.

  • Epic music for an epic campaign

Excellent, my players loved the ambiance. I usually ban tech on my table but I've made an exception for this app.
  • A Good Purchase, but a few tweaks in order

I love this app and use it every time I DM. I feel the $3 price is justified when there are basic die rollers out there for $.99 and this is so much more.

I have found it can add a lot to your sessions if used judiciously.

The ability to create encounter tables, and other random charts in the custom dice sets greatly speeds play (instead of flipping to find it). The ability to roll several dice at once and see their results as individual die has aided my ability to control individual initiative for large groups of monsters.

However, there are a few things I would add/change which I feel would add exceptional value to this tool, and if offered I would consider extra paying for.

    -Environment Sounds
These are great, but there should either be more or a way to upload your own, like there is with the music.
Also the medieval battle sounds are -way- too intense, even at low intensity setting.
There should also just be, in general, more. Perhaps offering genre specific environment packs?

    -FX sounds
The ability to mix the volume between playlist and environment is great, but since you cannot control FX volume they often get lost.
Starting an ambush with the sudden sound of an arrow striking a shield would be exhilarating if it wasn't lost in background.

-Chaining FX sounds to Custom Dice sets
Wouldn't it great (if I wanted it) to set FX sounds to die results in the custom tables? Then if your random encounter generates an Orc, a bestial howling is heard immediately? Or if a critical hit is rolled by an enemy, a scream of pain?

All in all I greatly commend this work as a labour of love and for its enhancement of my favourite hobby.

  • Excellent app!

As the title suggests, this app was amazing. As a DM it was much easier to use this to make the sound effects of various creatures. The music really changes the dynamic of the group and the sounds create a surreal ambiance. Recommend this app to all RPG gamers looking to add something to their game!

  • Very handy

Really simple and incredibly useful app, pls add more sounds devs! Also perhaps a way to chain sounds for a different type of screenshot , ie axe hit and male death? Great stuff keep going!
  • Loyal User, but some suggestions

I love the direction you have taken this app. The snapshots are great, and the ability to import music is useful. The added sound option for dice rolls was creative as well. I like the variations in FX, but there are some that shouldn't be randomized. The human laughs vary too wildly- from a mischievous chuckle to a coarse guffaw. This makes the human FX almost unusable at the table. The ability to favorite certain FX would be useful as well. FX often need to be played quickly to stay immersive, but it can take upwards of 6 clicks to get to the one you need IF you know where it is and by then the moment has passed. The option to import FX would be interesting as well, but I understand the difficulty with this. Something else that is needed is the ability to mute the sound without having to exit the app, mute the device, or enter the settings. Sometimes silence is the best sound for a situation.
I've been using this app for over a year now and I absolutely love it and want it to grow into something even greater. I'm looking forward to the next update.

  • Great with a few issues

Would like to be able use tracking within a song and also a quicker way to access fx through snapshots or something similar. Menu simplification for quicker on the fly changes would be fantastic. Don't really need all the dice rollers so they can be scrapped for other requested features. I only list so much because I want it to be the best it can be. Love it and please keep at it!

  • Very good, not great

I love this app, it has a huge amount to offer for the creative GM! However, I have to say it's too difficult to find certain sounds, even when you save "snapshots." Rather, I think there should just be 'playlists' in which you could save any environment, music, or sound fx piece, so you can have quick access for the type of adventure you're playing at the moment.

Also, I think there needs to be a 'sound board' on the main screen that lets you more accurately control the volume of the three sound channels (environment, music, sound fx) relative to each other.

The UI feels a little heavy, too, but that's just a personal preference. So, although I have a lot of comments, I still enjoy using this app very much!
