  • Best Star gazing planing app

Ive been using the Scope Nights App for over 3 years now and it is invaluable for planning my viewing sessions, whether I’m planning a Messier Marathon or a transit of Mercury or a trip to Kielder Forest this app has it all, up to date weather forecasts, select your viewing time, and viewing location either by current location or move the map to a manual location and get a up to date forecast. This will certainly help you find those clear nights!

  • My notes

Astronomical twilight start and end needs to be shown.

Moon rise/set time should be shown more prominently

Font size should be a little bigger
  • Best stargazing weather app

Been using this for years & always given fairly reliable forecasts. Saves me a lot of hassle weather watching & scouring weather websites as sends a notification to my Apple Watch when good stargazing expected. Also love the fact that I can customise the ratings to suit my observing needs. Wouldn’t be without it!

  • Observing companion

I run the sky watches at the Horowitz - DeRemer Planetarium . It is very helpful and accurate to know when it will be clear . This app is always right on . The dark sky map is also helpful when planning an observing trip .
  • Uncannily accurate.

App does a great job of forecasting conditions for astronomy. Its my go to app. Far better than using even the best standard weather apps.
  • Seems reliable and quite useful

I find this app to be useful for a first look at the possibility for decent skies. Your mileage may vary. If you’re a stargazer like me, you know that the weather does whatever it feels like to us poor mortals. But definitely a good thing to have in your toolkit.
  • Accurate

One of my go to Astro viewing weather apps. Its long range forecasts are more correct than not. The graphic display is easy to read and pleasant to look at.
  • Potentially Excellent - Seems Glitchy

It is possibly a quirk of the iPhone X, but when I run this app it seems to populate my Scope Sites list with the exact same site 20 or so times no matter how many times I delete them. When I then try to add a site I want on my list it tells me the list is full and I have to delete one before I can add any more. Because of this, I can’t look at the weather for the actual places I want to go to, just have to look at the nearest on on my list and hope. Am I doing something wrong or is it a latest version of IOS issue?? Please help, I love the functionality but this issue is killing my enthusiasm for the otherwise great app!

  • Accurate?

Sometimes I’m out on a lovely clear night and it’ll tell me the conditions are ‘poor’, then when it’s pouring with rain it says the conditions are good. Hard to trust it.
  • Very accurate

My backyard observatory is located about 15 miles inland from the California coast. We are often affected by the marine layer clouds coming in. This app has been a very useful tool!
