VerbTeX Pro LaTeX Editor User Reviews

Easy to Use and does a good job

I’m new to VerbTeX Pro so haven’t experienced the deficiencies others noted from years back. I’m using it on an older iPad Pro and have had no problems with articles a few pages long. I haven’t yet used it for large documents but it fits my current need nicely.

Works decently well

The Dropbox integration makes it really easy for me to sync my documents between this and my computer. It has worked decently well with the documents I’ve tried with it, although there were some issues at one point where documents I edited on my computer wouldn’t work in this and vice versa but those issues disappeared one day. Overall I’m pleased, although it would be nice if there were more customization options with the appearance of the editor, as well as stuff like more advanced text replacement and macros.

This has made my life better

VerbTeX Pro means that I can now travel only with an iPad and be able to write up maths. That's a huge win for me. The editor might seem a little limited for big documents but, if things are synced with Dropbox, you can use any editor you like, so this is a non-problem.

It's great.

Almost superb!

Apart from the fact that one cannot compile Latex documents offline, this app is superb! Add this feature, and the app gets 5 stars!

Friendly and easy to use, just:

1. The search does not work - drawback when have document >= 1 page.
2. Could not rename project or file in project.
3. Not clear how to include in project specific routines like sty and use package.

User friendly, nicely synced with Dropbox, easy to use. Definitely recommend.

Response from developer

Thank you for your report. You can rename the project by pressing the "Rename" button right next to the project. You can also simply add your .sty, .cls, etc. files to your project by putting them in Dropbox or Box or copy them to the Documents folder using iTunes. The app will take care of using them. Please contact us directly if you have any questions.

Works well except for lack of search

A one page document is fine with no search, but to not have a search option in a 20 page document is prohibitive.

Response from developer

Thank you for your report. A search is already on our todo list. Please contact us directly if you have any questions.

Unusual piece of software.

Unusual to say least.

Best Value For Money

Out of all the latex editors for IPad currently available, this is the cheapest but most functional, and the user interface is very nice.

Good app.

Does what you would want and expect it to do with a nice layout and is easy to use.

Linking to Dropbox folder on iPad can be troublesome as often seems to overwrite Dropbox document version with its own saved-elsewhere one when opened.
Some means to return to the same point in a pdf after rebuilding a document would be nice too...

Response from developer

Thank you for your report. Please note that in order to make the Dropbox synchronization completely automatic the app assumes that it has the "correct" version (when working in a project). In other words: If you save your project and you edit the file in Dropbox at the same time then VerbTeX will overwrite the changes in Dropbox.

Mostly functional

Great for simple Tex formatting, and the autocomplete feature is nice, but I cannot get \usepackage to work. The instructions on their website and in the app don’t seem to match their current UI and the current iOS UI for sharing files.

Response from developer

Thank you for your report. Could you send us a sample document or tell us which package specifically doesn't work? The \usepackage command is a LaTeX command and since we're using a full LaTeX installation, everything should work as expected. Please contact us directly so we can solve this issue.
