I would look for a different provider if you need reliable service outside of North America. I regret purchasing Astrill.
Doesn’t work in China on mobile devices
I have been using Astrill for a few months. It worked well at the beginning. However, for the last couple of months, it has stopped working on mobile devices (phone and iPad). It shows to be connected when I turn it on, but there is no connection at all. Nothing loads. The only reason that I bought this service even though it’s the most expensive VPN is it used to work in China. Now I feel rather disappointed.

Rescued by this VPN
Tried one, didn’t work at all, tried a second still couldn’t talk with my family. Friend said get this one. So happy to have regular communication that has so far connected instantly.
Doesn’t work
Long time user here. I’ve been using this for years, putting up with the app glitching or have all sorts of issues from time to time. The app works fine on desktop but on an iOS system (on my iPhone or iPad), it just randomly stops working. The app is clearly not well designed for mobile version and is very difficult to use. Recently I have had a lot of problems with it: in my country I am not allowed to use google or some other forms of social media. I downloaded this for school work and when it randomly stops working sometimes, I can’t even search things on google or attend online lessons with my teachers abroad. When trying to seek support on their website, nobody responded to me for weeks via email and their call line is also unavailable all the time. While general experience has been mostly fine for the past few years, I will not be purchasing this again as soon as my account expires. It is also not at all worth its price given there are many better vpns out there for free or with a cheaper price.

Stopped working in mobile, limited support
Shortly after giving it one star, Astrill rolled out an update and the VPN is working exceptionally well in China. The customer support experience still sucked but I won’t argue with the speed of the vpn now. I tried another VPN (nord) and got a refund since after two days I hadn’t managed to get it to connect even once. I’m happy to have Astrill back.

Mostly reliable, but overpriced and offers terrible support.
Much more expensive than other options that work in China, though it does work almost all the time, albeit with constant fiddling, changing servers, changing protocols, disconnecting and reconnecting, etc. It’s very unstable and frustrating on iOS in particular, though, unfortunately. You’d better hope you never need tech support, though, because the support is awful. I think each message just goes to some random, underpaid and poorly trained person who doesn’t read the message history before telling you to try turning if off and back on again.
Update: when I complained about this, the reply was that the representative who tried to help instead of immediately telling me my system is not supported would be “held accountable”. Very comforting.

Quite good
One of the only VPNs that works in China, it’s functionally is reliable most of the time. However, there is no automatic function to change which region to switch, making it hard sometimes to get a stable ping when travelling to different regions. Overall a good investment 👍
Worth the money
If you travel to China and need reliable, fast, VPN then you will not go wrong with Astrill. Immediately connecting and loads of options to connect to. There are alternatives but from my experience none are as trouble free. I spend significant amounts of time in China every year and will not consider any other apps
