Almost unusable

This app is super glitchy and has been for a very long time with no apparent fix in sight. It’s a wonder TVNZ isn’t embarrassed to have this app as a representative of their company - especially in this day and age when people don’t watch as much standard TV and rely on apps to choose when and what they watch. I have used this app on my tablet, my phone, my Apple TV and my smart TV and every version has issues that quite frankly shouldn’t be occurring.

Many times this app will buffer when the internet connection is perfectly fast and well signalled and the show I am watching will freeze or go to black (sometimes corresponds with when ads are supposed to happen, other times it just decides its had enough). Sometimes this even happens when I go into a show and try to watch it at all. Even when I exit out and go back in, I will encounter the problem again and again.

It is such a painful app to use that (to be cliche) I would give it less than one star were that an option.

Please sort it out - a fix is so long overdue! I know myself and many others enjoy some of the content that we can only get on here and it would be nice to get through one episode of something without encountering bugs.

Good shows everything else disappointing

Love the selection of shows but this app was really poorly created. Having ads is fine but sometimes the show will stop after an ad and I have to close the app then reopen and once I do I have to watch the same adds all over again. Sometimes the ads just repeat 4 or 5 times (the exact same ad) before the show starts again. If I close the app even for a short amount of time, I can’t just pick up where I left off I have to try find where I was and then again watch ads I have already watched. Everytime I finish an episode I can’t just go to the next one I have to go out, scroll through all the episodes again and look for where I was up to. There is an option for “next episode now” as the credits start to roll but everytime I have selected it theres an error and I need to close the app and start again. So many flaws on this app it’s ridiculous. The app doesn’t save where I last left off (timewise or episode) it has a “continue watching” part but it’s not the last episode I watched or where I left off.

Just stops during “ad breaks”

Having recently purchased an Apple TV, I was excited to see this app was available as there are some shows I like which are only available through this app (tablet and phone screens are too small for me). Since day 1, it’s been incredibly frustrating to watch anything through this app. Often the ‘ads’ at the beginning of the show freeze or stutter, eventually playing and getting to the show. But the infuriating part is the ‘ad break’ in the middle of the show - never ever plays and just stops working. There’s no way to skip the ad, the only option is to close the app and go back to the show and resume watching the episode which again sometimes doesn’t start due to it starting from the ‘ad break’. Incredibly disappointing from a company such as TVNZ, especially as streaming services are becoming more commonplace. I’ll be deleting the app once I manage to actually watch the show I want - if the app allows me.

Disappointing

Where do you even start with this app? When you connect from iPad or iPhone to Chromecast it lags so badly its unwatchable. It doesn’t remember where you were if you had to leave and come back to a show. If you let your screen go dark and go back to the app to try pause or anything you can’t, it loses the functions somewhere along the way so you have to close it down and go back and and re start all the while it’s still casting the show but then starts playing a new version on your phone or iPad as well, so you have to re cast and wait. If for some pure miracle you come back and it still has the functions and you try go back or forward it plays an ad every time even if you go forward a few minutes then try again because it wasn’t quite at the right spot. It takes forever to play and then to cast. Disappointing

Can't watch

This app may be prettier than the other, but I don't like the format as I can't find anything. I don't like the scrolling across, it is nicer to scroll down with everything in a grid. I don't like that it doesn't have the recent, so I have to load all my favourites and check each one to see if a new episode is available. Also when I am watching something, the screen goes blank when ads are supposed to be playing and I can't even get out of the ap and have to reboot my ipad. Then when it continues I get a heap of ads. Bring the old one back. At least it works, and you don't have to register. Why make us register. So that you can bombard our email address with more junk? I wrote the above review a while back now, but all the bad stuff is still happening. So much for being able to stop part way through a show and come back. If you do that you end up with a black screen, and have to reboot your device.

Continuing to review ad they upgrade, but still not great as it still keeps stopping. If you are watching a show and leave and and the iPad closes, when you come back the screen is black and it is really hard to get back. You have to reboot your iPad. Please fix this been happening ever si de it started

Too many bugs

I love the content and the concept but there are so many bugs. If you stop and leave the app for a while, you get a blank screen and have to go right out and back in. It never remembers where you’re up to in a season or even within an episode often, which is very frustrating. I often get ten minutes into an episode (the one the app told me to watch next) only to realise I’ve already seen this episode and the three following! I’ve just spent ages going through all the “watch next” suggestions making sure I’d watched right to the end (in case that was the issue); but no, it’s taken me right back to a 5 episodes ago telling me again that that is up next. Very frustrating. They advertise “pick up and play” across devices but it doesn’t work even on one device. And don’t get me started on the issues with casting. Please fix the bugs as the content is great.

Frustrating

I see that you just added something for chromecasters and “fixed” some bugs but I have no chrome cast option this happens every so often and is only happening with this app please get this sorted it’s frustrating when you want to watch something but can’t cast it. I don’t have other options apart from my phone so this does get annoying. Also can you please make it so that when you are casting and leave the app that when you go back into you can pause it without having to uncast and then try and pick where you’re up to. Overall love some shows but really needs to step up because this app frustrates me so much. Thank you

Where to start

I think the developers need to take a page out of the Netflx App which runs super smoothly. This App takes ages to load to Chromecast, once loaded you cannot rewind at all from the phone or remote. If you have to rewind you need to stop casting which again takes ages, then the app jumps back to the episode page and you have to start manually often by finding your episode which restarts all over again from the beginning, manually drag to where you are up to, then recast to Chromecast, all very time consuming. Also many of the same issues others have mentioned months ago. I don’t understand why TVNZ haven’t pulled their finger out and promptly fixed the problems, disappointing.

Great shows.....But.....

I thoroughly enjoy the shows on this site.....more for my liking than on Netflix, but what a frustrating set up. I start watching a series, stop watching mid-episode , try to get back in later and I am not taken back to that point. When I wait for the automatic change from one episode to the next......there is often a two or three episode jump. No wonder the story line doesn’t make sense at times ...there is no continuity. I have to write down the episode number each time to ensure I am at the right episode.. Last.....often the episode will freeze and the only way to proceed is to start the previous episode, when that starts to play.....then try to start the correct episode.
The system is a dog’s breakfast and I can not understand why these problems have not been fixed long ago. If it wasn’t for the quality of the programmers I would give up.
