I wanted to find a resource to help train my ears to pick up tones in Chinese and so far I’m enjoying Ka’s approach!
The app is well designed and the lessons are bite-sized. As an extreme beginner, I appreciate that the character, Pinyin, sound, and translation are available early on.

Exactly what I needed
I’ve practised Chinese on and off for ten years. Probably done at least 1000 hours of solid training. I even immersed myself in China for a month in a city with no English speakers and I attended school there. After all that, my tones are still pretty ordinary and I can only be easily understood by people who are accustomed to foreigners.
So I went searching, hoping to find an app just like this one - an app which focusses on rating my tones and gives me useful feedback and lots of practise. I’m loving this app and can hear myself improving.

Amazing for tones
This app is great for improving your ability to hear tones! After about two months of consistent use, I’ve found I’ve been able to understand shows and my bfs family better. I just need to use to more consistently but that’s my procrastination:/
Seems promising!
I am coming back to leave a new review now that I’ve used the app a little more, and I am still really impressed with it. It really is a lot of content. I also like the fact that phrases are sometimes included too, so that you can hear how the word sounds when it is surrounded by other words. This really does help train the ear to hear the correct sounds, and I like the fact there is voice training for speaking the words too. This app is very thorough, and very well written. I really do think it will help me speak Mandarin so much better than ever before.

Great app!!
Other apps start you out trying to learn conversation. If I want to learn a new language it’s much easier if you start with the fundamentals, the basics. That way the conversations come easier! I absolutely love this app. Only wish you had more lives available.
Good so far
I just started using Ka so I can practice tones more. I have not gotten far in the curriculum, but so far it is been practical. The two things I wish to see added currently is an option to playback sentences at a slower pace, as well as an option to resize pinyin (big or small) so I can focus on characters. Overall it is a good app

I had a somewhat unimportant issue about it the streaks being maintained on the app and was contacted by Kai within 24 hours of reaching out to him. The app is good but the customer service is outlandish.

This is what it says allows you to work on your tones. A variety of exercises, including speech, lots of listening practice and fine tuning.
