  • Great to use, BUT

First the good - the app is well built, fun and intuitive to use, and the sounds are great! I look forward to more soundscapes being made, and more sound packs being released. I even cannot wait to see how the devs increase functionality within individual packs, like scene specific sound categories and what not. Having the same basic categories, like ambiance and weather, across all scenes make a ton of sense and works fantastic.

$7 a month is a steep price, however. I would certainly pay money for a pro version were it a one time charge. I would even enthusiastically buy sound packs piecemeal to gain permanently full access to them. $7 for one sound pack would be an easy impulse buy that I would only slightly regret, but a monthly subscription model just does not feel like the fit for a service like this. I will continue to use the app, but implore the devs to look at other monetization methods, as I feel like a subscription basis will be a consistent turn off for many potential customers.

Also, devs just HAVE to get working on a tavern soundscape, how else am I supposed to start my adventures?!

Thanks so much for your feedback! We're happy to hear that you're having fun using the app, and we're always stoked to hear that it's easy to pick up and use. Regarding the subscription - we're actively working to increase the value by adding more songs, sounds, and overall bang for your buck! We've thought a lot about our pricing model, and currently see the subscription as the only viable way to get the app to be where we want it long term while offering an expanding library of free content. If you're interested in our reasoning, we have a detailed explanation on our Discord! And your ears must be ringing - our team is hard at work scoring and recording our Tavern Expansion :) that's our top content priority right now. -Nick
  • It’s a great app with room for improvement.

I love the intensity sliders. It gives control over the mood. The music selection for locations is right on point.

Improvements: the subscription fee is a little much. Only consider the subscription if you GM constantly and need the extra locations and options.

Needs more locations. This obviously will go up with user input.

Howdy, thanks so much for your feedback! It's great to hear that the music we've scored is meeting your expectations - we believe that's paramount to what we do. We've thought a lot about our pricing model, and one of the reasons behind the price of $7/mo is so that we won't have to raise it any time soon while we continue to compose and create more value for our subscribers! We believe in reinvesting those subscriptions so that we can keep expanding our library of free content as well. If you have any questions or further feedback, please let us know at support@pocketbard.app -Nick
  • Confused by bad reviews

This app has been great. Enough for me to actually leave a review so that’s something. Was curious to see if people had bad things to say. So far, all the low reviews are referring to things that I don’t find to be the case. One says it requires a subscription but I’ve downloaded several audios for free while others offer the option to pay for them. So far, so good.

Hi there! Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a review! We appreciate that - I think some people thought that we paywalled the previously free content, which is not the case. Oh well! We're working hard on adding both more free content and subscription content, so keep an eye out in the content page for updates! If you ever run into any issues, let us know at support@pocketbard.app. Thanks for your support, and let us know if you have any suggestions of feedback as well! -Alex
  • Surprisingly useful and well thought out.

I have a policy to never download any app that advertises to me via Facebook. For me if it doesn’t come word of mouth, or through my own search, I ignore it. The ad for this app was a demo video of how it works and how seamlessly it integrates to what you’re trying to do. It looked so easy and intuitive that I broke my own policy and grabbed it. In practice it’s just as easy as was promised and I will now be using it to run all my games with the kids. I also pointed it out to my Open Table 5e campaign, who are mostly more experienced DMs. No idea if they’ll listen, but I’m spreading word of mouth.

  • Well.

Below you’ll find my original review, showing how much I loved this app. Maybe it’s just that I’m broke and in between jobs right now, but the new subscription service is not ideal. Really disappointed in the newer updates. I’m not paying $7 a month for this. This app will be deeply missed by me and my group.

I’ve been looking for something exactly like this ever since I started running TTRPG games with my friends. It’s always been a hassle. What I’m about to say is genuinely shocking, and not for the faint of heart: this app is exactly as advertised. I’m floored by how good it is. Keeps playing as you pull up reference or character sheets on your phone, and perfect for board game night too! I’m telling all my friends, whether they play TTRPGs or not, download it now!

Hi there, we're sorry you're disappointed by the newer updates, but I wanted to make sure you were aware though that all of the content you previously had is still free, and there are actually an additional 3 free scenes in the form of the Seafaring and Sci-Fi preview, you just need to re-download them, as it is a totally rebuilt version of the app. We also will be continuing to improve the free content over time. Currently, the only paywalled content is the Sci-Fi Essentials content pack. We've always wanted to provide a solid base of scenes for free, and nothing has changed on that front. We hope that you continue using the app, and never feel any pressure to pay for the subscription if you are not interested. If you have any other issues, or would like to discuss further, feel free to email me at alex@pocketbard.app. -Alex
  • Excellent background soundtrack for reading!

I read adventure books to my young kids every night. This app has really added to the atmosphere when reading. It’s truly amazing how well the music fits with the reading experience and how seamless the intensity can be adjusted. It’s absolutely perfect and my kids love it.

I let them control the sound effects when we hear crashes or explosions or weather events. It really makes everything about story time so much more fun.

I would love to see more one-shot creature sounds and ambiance options to enhance environmental elements. Such as
    - dragon/dinosaur roars
    - night time animal ambiance sounds like crickets and owls hooting.
    - swampy bog gurgling and subtle frog noises
    - volcanic eruptions and earth rumbling

    Thanks again!

  • Playlists no more!

I literally just downloaded this because I was missing something and the simple design hooked me. I love the music and the simplicity of crafting a soundboard for almost any scene has never been easier. I would gladly pay $5-10 for this app and a smaller fee for expansions. Do not miss out on this!
  • Hands down the best

Clean UI, great music, easy and fun to use. There's really nothing out there that's better than pocket Bard for tabletop music. The smooth transitions between moods and intensities are very good, and I always feel like I have full control. The roadmap ahead for future updates looks phenomenal, and you can tell the team behind this app really care about the product they're putting out.

  • When can we get more?

This is awesome! Can’t wait for the other parts!
  • Great App, Bad Interface

The app is great, but needs work. Only comes one sound package. You need to download the rest and it takes a while, worth it. Would download again
