Actually works

If you want to learn Japanese, forget Duolingo. THIS is the game you NEED to play! The way it introduces you to new words is so novel, really cemented it in my brain. After just a single hour I was amazed by how much I knew, and better yet, could recall when needed! Highly recommend!!

Thank you so much for your kind words! So many people are still stuck in the green owl method and don’t know other ways to actually remember and apply knowledge exist! It took us years to experiment while developing Wagotabi and finding the right balance between learning, fun and immersion! It is a labor or love and we are so glad you feel it! We are regularly adding new towns and learning content. Please tell people around you about Wagotabi, this helps us tremendously!

GET THIS GAME

It’s an actual GAME first of all and second the developers are very active in game updates/language research so I can trust what I learn in this game. I love cozy games and would love to play them in Japanese someday. This game gradually immerses you in the language and immediately is training me to reach my someday goals by being so similar to the games I would play anyway! Play the Wagotabi Lite demo, watch reviews on YouTube, look at their response to feedback, and their recent updates. You will see it’s a no brainer to support this fantastic indie game 🤩

Language Learning Perfection

I’m a kinesthetic learner and this is a dream come true. I’m only 30 minutes in and this is already the greatest language learning experience I’ve ever had. This is a true learning GAME and not “game-ified” language learning content like Duolingo. Thank you so much developers for making this game. Please continue to update, add dlc, make sequels, or whatever to expand content. You have made something truly special. It’s like Pokémon with Japanese words. I love it.

Makes learning fun

Tried the Demo of the app and bought it immediately after completing the demo. Love the classic game style, and the practice utilities. Great for those who struggle with traditional language learning methods. Haven’t seen how far it can take you in Japanese, certainly enough to navigate basic conversation, though. Very fun.

I would like to be able to have multiple save files so that each member of the family can progress on their own.

Thanks a lot for this review! We are really glad that you enjoy learning Japanese with Wagotabi. It is possible to have multiple save files on the game: if you go to player menu, then the options menu, at the bottom you have a « new game » and a « load game » buttons. They respectively allow to create a new save slot and load a specific save for the game.

Thank you for the kind comment! With Wagotabi, we hope everyone can feel like actually starting an actual learning journey in Japan! It is probably one of the most immersive apps on the market. Please recommend it around you if you liked it!

Cute and easy way to learn Japanese!!!

I have only gotten to the bus stop right now but this app is such a great tool to learn japanese for me ( ^ω^ )

Response from developer

Thanks a lot for your review and playing Wagotabi. We put a lot of work and passion into making this game as smooth and accessible as possible to learn Japanese in immersion and naturally. We will keep the game updated with new content and improvements. Please recommend Wagotabi to people around you!

The best!

I think it is by far the best Japanese learning game (or perhaps app!) available in iOS. The method is effective and the user can learn a lot with little effort. The story is engaging and the art is very cute, they both help to characterise the prefectures where the game is set and to teach also about Japanese culture and places as well as the language. As if this were not enough, the game has a free demo and it does not use predatory tactics such as subscriptions or always on internet access: you buy it once for an affordable price and it is yours for life! I couldn’t recommend it more.

Thank you so much for your kind feedback! You perfectly summarized what Wagotabi has to offer. Being Japanese learners ourselves, we went through the struggles of early stage learning, through all levels of JLPT exams, up to a high level of proficiency. We are willing to transmit the best practices we established during that long journey, and most importantly, with maximum respect to the user. Wagotabi is extremely affordable, no recurring fees, available totally offline: your long term companion for Japanese learning. We are updating Wagotabi regularly with new towns and lessons.

Best place to start

I’ve tried many different resources for learning Japanese, but none of them helped me progress as well as this game. The unique way they merges language learning and immersive gameplay has greatly boosted my retention rate compared to many other methods. What I love is how you’re encouraged to immediately apply what you learn by interacting with NPCs. And as you progress through the adventure, the game gradually introduces more Japanese, replacing English to match your growing skills. For just five dollars, it’s a steal and offers much more than some paid places for learning. Don’t hold back if you’re thinking about it, go for it! Thank you, devs for an amazing learning tool and best of luck on the future updates !

わごたびが好きです。

This app is the best app for learning Japanese that I have found. It’s made in a way I always wanted in my Japanese learning game. I had this game for less then a week and I feel like I have made more progress in this than any other learning app.

I found this app through game gengo on YouTube and even he praises this game for how good it is. I do agree with him on one thing, I’d love for a picture album of irl areas in Japan that you can get while exploring. That way you feel even more connected to the game itself. (He did have some criticism on the game, but it was just small stuff more than anything.)

I do have a question for the dev if you see this. How often do you plan on updating the game? (I understand if you don’t want to say, estimating updates aren’t that easy.)

I hope to see more from your game in the future.
