I love the smell of bug fixes in the morning. This time, we're fixing an issue that could cause a mortifying crash when you attempted to revisit Lexicogs 100 if you'd already solved the puzzle. The fault lies with me and me alone. I will never forgive myself, but I hope at least YOU can. This release also does a better job of updating your played status for full-size crosswords.

When I launched Lex.Games, I was excited to share my games with the world in app form. But figuring out how to make crosswords work well? That was hard. So I held off. It's time, though. Now, full-size crosswords join the Mini crosswords in the app. Gird yourself to grid yourself. That doesn't mean much of anything, but it was fun to type. I hope Across doesn't get you cross, and that Down doesn't bring you down!

Six Appeal now provides better VoiceOver hints for blind players, so that you can know which letters are correctly placed, which are misplaced, and which aren't in the word at all. Various other bug fixes and improvements. Because you deserve them!

The previous fix for the broken puzzle worked for some players, but not all. This fix really fixes things for everyone. The fix is in! In a good way!

Lex.Games offers a High Contrast mode to help folks with color blindness see things, especially in games like Six Appeal and Mind Control. And now, Six Appeal’s high contrast mode is even better — it shows a little black triangle inside the squares for correctly-placed letters. This is helpful for folks for whom the contrasting colors didn't contrast enough. Also, if you say the word "contrast" many times in a row, you start to get semantic satiation, the very real psychological phenomenon where repeating a word or phrase numerous times causes it to temporarily lose meaning. It's my firmly held belief that this is NOT a metaphor for life. Anyway, this release also includes bug fixes AND improvements. Not just one or other. If you're enjoying Lex.Games, or if you're just enjoying my "What's New In This Version" notes, I encourage you to leave a review right here in the App Store! Also, just for the heck of it, high contrast high contrast high contrast.

Remember the previous version, where we added Mini crosswords? Now they're even better, thanks to the magic of both bug fixes AND improvements. Improvements include: You now get the Win Jingle when you solve a Mini, thank goodness. And the first square wasn't properly selected when you loaded a mini, costing you VALUABLE NANOSECONDS. That's fixed now, too. Some people had crashes when using hints in the Minis. That's no good. Luckily, it's ALSO no more.

Mini crossword puzzles arrive in Lex.Games! Hooray! Scroll to the bottom of the Home Screen to find the daily Mini crossword. Note that these puzzles currently require an Internet connection. Finding yourself on the leaderboard just got easier: We now scroll you directly to yourself. If you consistently score really high, you’ll never even notice this change! But for the rest of us… It helps. Many games got the traditional “bug fixes and improvements.” Of special note are fixes to coloration on Six Appeal, with High Contrast mode, while in Dark Mode.

Thanks so much for all your feedback! This update addresses the most common requests: By A Vowel behaves much more nicely on smaller screens when the keyboard appears. It also now indicates which letters you’ve used from the word you’re currently solving. It’s subtle, but it’ll help, especially when you’re working on solving longer words. If I had to pick one vowel to grade these By A Vowel improvements, it would be an A. VoiceOver works significantly better in Conlextions. Numerous Six Appeal improvements appear in this version too. Among them is better support for High Contrast mode to assist players with color blindness or other visual impairments, and the squashing of bugs that could make things weird under unusual conditions. Also, if you still haven't tapped on the Letter Opener icon on the Letter Opener game with your sound on... you're missing out. See you on the leaderboards!

What if Lex.Games was somehow EVEN BETTER?! That’s what this update is all about. Now, certain games behave a lot better when you’re offline or have limited data. Lousy Internet is no reason not to be able to enjoy Lexicogs, Conlextions, or By A Vowel! And now those games work significantly better when you’re offline. Which is good, because when the Internet’s bad, you deserve word game distractions. Sometimes, By A Vowel could be really frustrating, with the keyboard pushing the header up and making buttons really hard to tap. That’s been corrected, and I apologize for the By A Vowel frustration. It should only frustrate you when you can’t figure out the right solution to a word! Also: The High Contrast option in settings worked great for Mind Control, but some users with color blindness struggled to see visual elements in Six Appeal. Now High Contrast mode works there, too. High Contrast mode is automatically enabled if you use the “Differentiate Without Color” accessibility setting built into iOS / iPad OS, or you can toggle it in the Settings tab of Lex.Games. Occasionally, you could get Six Appeal into a state where it would try too hard to restore a game in progress, and things would go a little crazy. That’s now corrected. The only thing that should be crazy in Lex.Games is the amount of fun you’re having while you play it. Also also: While Lex.Games is generally a good Dark Mode citizen, some elements were a little tough to see. That’s been improved significantly, especially across tabs and in Lexicogs.

Description of Lex.Games

Lex.Games offers a slew of daily word games to enjoy: Conlextions, Lexicogs, Mini and Full-Size Crosswords, By A Vowel, Six Appeal, Letter Opener, and Mind Control. Conlextions is a custom spin on the increasingly popular Connections puzzle format: You see a grid of sixteen terms, and need to identify four sets of four groups — watching out for words that might fall into more than one category! Lexicogs offers crossword-style clues, and you assemble the answers from the "cogs" of words below. Solve all seven clues as fast as you can. By A Vowel is a word jumble game: Five themed words, each missing one of the five vowels. Crack the theme to help improve your solve time. Six Appeal is like Wordle meets Mastermind: You're solving a six-letter word, but your guesses don't all need to be real words — though they're worth more points if they are. Letter Opener gives you 90 seconds to form as many words as you can using the starting letters provided. Can you top the leaderboard? The daily Mini is a crossword puzzle — only smaller. How fast can you solve the clues? The full-size Crossword is — of course! — a full-size crossword. Woohoo! Mind Control is a modern take on Mastermind — figure out the right order for the colorful pegs, using logic to determine the solution. New puzzles each day, with individual leaderboards per game, along with a Lex.Games-wide leaderboard, too. Hear a fun jingle when you solve a puzzle. Enjoy the mellow background music, or disable all the sounds entirely. Share your scores with friends, keep your mind busy, and satisfy your competitive streak! Word up.
