Reviews of CBS Sports Fantasy

  • Not enough players !

Many years ago, when first introduced to FF, we had a private league for many years. Players mostly worked together and we had live drafts. ( great way to start ) . We ( I ) decided that 18 players would be THE number to comprise a team; theoretically that could include 2 Q/B’s, 2 Kickers, 2 Defenses etc. Hence, all or most decisions each week would mostly come from WITHIN the team ( once it’s built up to one’s satisfaction) . Now, retired and joining public leagues, 15 is the number and that just doesn’t work for me. Unless this game is updated to be more user friendly, I most likely will not playing CBS FF next year. Both Yahoo and NFL have better formats that include several injured reserve spots. Please update the general game and increase the excitement factor….Thank you.
  • I’m quitting my league because of this app

I don’t write app reviews, but this is a special case. Since I can’t convince our commissioner to dump CBS I’m quitting my league.

I’ve been playing fantasy sports for 18 years and this app along with the web interface are like a portal into what fantasy was like in 2005. I also happen to work in application development and if my team tried to launch this pile of hot garbage I’d fire everyone and resign. If this ever went through user testing I’d be shocked.

Using this app is tedious and confusing. Everything from load times, to managing my team, to seeing what’s going on in the league, to looking at player notes seems to be designed to maximize screen taps. Looking up players is a minefield of needless difficulties and sorting/finding players is slightly easier than if you had to use an Excel spreadsheet. The app isn’t even easy on the eyes and just checking my score makes me hate it. Single decimal place scoring just looks stupid too.

I’ll close with notifications. I’m still waiting for CBS to notify me of half the touchdowns my team scored last Sunday. All other apps I’ve ever used are nearly instantaneous in notifying me of important plays or injuries. CBS is so slow we try to guess how long it will be if I even get a notification.

If you’re starting or joining a fantasy league, look elsewhere.
  • CBS Sportsline unable to adapt to hybrid rule set

My fantasy league has been a member of CBS Sportsline for over two decades. In that period, CBS has been unable to accommodate a variety of rules to include (1) 24-hr waiver wire approval voting: the CBS software allows the voting to occur up to as much as 47 hours and 55 minutes. If the trade is consummated at 12:01 am on Monday, the trade is not approved until 11:59 on Wednesday, which is a stark and unacceptable violation of the 24-hour period in which the trade needs to be approved; (2) waiver wire picks in our league are prioritized on the following criteria (a) Win-Loss record, (b) power ranking (c) head to head record (d) intra divisional record. CBS uses a different set of criteria and is unable to accommodate our rule set requiring intervention by the league Commissioner EVERY WEEK; (3) our league is not a PPR, 1/2 PPR or standard league but a hybrid. The cheat sheets and other draft and in-season aids do not reflect our hybrid scoring system and therefore lead to suboptimal outcomes for our GMs. An AI-serviced math model would allow for out unique scoring system but CBS will not make the requisite investment to allow this accommodation. We pay over $150 a season for inferior hosting and are tired of subsidizing mediocrity. Next year we will take our business to Sleeper.
