  • Good app but not necessary

' ' I started using IFTTT years ago and when it used to be either free or with lower fee. There were some issues here and there but overall I thought it was a great app that can automate and simplify almost anything. I’ve created bunch of buttons that I integrated into system share menu to use them so there wasn’t any need to open the actual app.

I don’t know when but for a while I noticed the buttons didn’t work but I’ve been overlooking them as incidentals until a week ago when I took time to manage installed apps on my iPad and realized IFTTT changed the company and their pricing. I must have not received any notices that might have been filtered out by my Apple Mail app and was surprised to find that now I can’t no longer use any buttons nor the app (free account allows limited # of applets but I couldn’t even get 1 to work) unless I subscribe.

I understand no good things come free so don’t have a problem with their pricing but I will no longer use IFTTT since it’s not really necessary. IFTTT is convenient but technically it’s doing what I can do with my iPad anyway. So I decided to uninstall the app and remove buttons (hopefully they will be removed or marked after uninstalling the app otherwise I’d go through each buttons which could be annoying). So this is my review before I uninstall IFTTT.
It’s a good automation tool that can save time sometimes but it’s not essential.

  • Not really worth it

Got a free account to test it out. Used to be able to have 5 enabled applets, now it’s down to 2 and the applets don’t have enough functionality to really get a feel for it. Could try the very short period trial of pro but still what it links to and what i can do with it hasn’t been great either. Wouldn’t even consider pro+. In the meantime the paid accounts are getting more expensive but with the current limitations in terms of linked services and triggers it’s really not worth it and i don’t think the paid accounts will give me the functionality i need.

  • Free User Pushout

Now on the hunt for a replacement, think I’ll give Siri Shortcuts a better look through.
For whatever reason now I can’t even run 1 applet.

Been using it for a long time now, I remember when they first introduced the pro version, could pay whatever you thought the service was worth. This introduced restrictions to the free user, fair enough but now they are reducing the free user again. They started off by having new users restricted to 2 applets but now they are restricting their existing users. Shows their loyalty is gone and it’s not worth the $6.50.

  • Great concept - poor execution

I originally signed up to IFTTT as a way of saving small amounts regularly with many applets making this process easy. The free account allowed 5 applets which I thought was a good offer and allows lower volume users who do not wish to upgrade and cannot justify the expense to boost their savings without having to think about it. Recently they have decided to reduce the free applets from 5 to 2, claiming it allows them to focus more on their services and allows them to keep subscription costs affordable for their subscribers. Clearly they are not interested in non subscribers and I will be cancelling all my applets and deleting my account.

  • Free Version Seemingly Has No Use

I have loved playing around w the native shortcuts app but the automation options are very limited and after looking around this app seemed like the most popular choice for folks interested in more complex and varied automations w far more integrations.

I’ve had the free version sitting in my app library for about a month now and cannot use it at all. I understood that the free version had it’s limitations including a limited number of free applets, but it says I have a limit of zero. I can’t use or create any. It’s very frustrating. Before I downloaded it I was betting I would pay for the pro, but the fact I’m unable to even test the functionality at all with the free version puts me off paying for pro.

I figured that a zero applet limit was a bug, especially since the descriptions of the plans, along with the FAQ, explicitly state that even with the free version you can use an (unspecified) limited amount of applets. I also considered that it was possible I was doing something wrong. So, I reported my issue (which was also a difficult process through their webpage but it seems that if you’re pro it’s much easier). It’s been a month and I haven’t heard back at all, and I’ve also seen this bug mentioned on the Reddit. I’ll probably just try the trial for pro to actually see what I can do with the app, but the lack of support really has soured my first impressions.

  • Not as advertised

This app pushes you to upgrade to pro or pro+ to really do anything. I went with pro, and the applets I could create could’ve been substituted easily with Alexa, google home, etc. with NO fee. They have many brands listed, but a lot of them aren’t compatible anymore or have very limited available triggers and actions. All this would’ve given you 3 stars, as I’m sure the pro+ plan could do more. What makes this 1 star is how scammy it feels when I tried to cancel my subscription. The app AND website have some sort of glitch every time I tried to cancel. I cancelled from my apple subscriptions page multiple times, yet it would still be subscribed when I returned I would be subscribed again. The app nor the website allowed me to delete my account, it generated a different “error” every time. Unfortunately I still have an account that I can’t delete. For that reason, 1 star stay away.

    Developer Response

Hey There, Sorry to hear about the trouble canceling your subscription! Please send us an email at Billing@ifttt.com and we'll be happy to help resolve this issue.
  • Not very reliable app on paid subscription.

App returns error 500 when trying to remove an automation.
    Events are not reliable.
  • Pro membership not activated

Hi, I paid for a yearly Pro membership, but the app didn't register my purchase and I am limited to only two applets. There is no support contact information in the app and I'm really frustrated. Can you do anything about it? I really like IFTTT and think it's a marvelous idea, but it's got this major glitch which lead me to give it only 2 stars. Developer, I hope you can fix this issue and have me change the review to a 5 star rating.

Support fixed my problem, so I'm changing the review to a five star rating. Thanks!

  • "Nobody ever went broke underestimating the IGNORANCE of the American public!"

I pray that most of these negative reviews on IFTTT are written by mentally challenged people for whom English is their second language. If there is a more powerful program that literally has ongoing limitless potential to simplify one's life than IFTTT, I pray that the gods drop it in my lap! This was a "free" app (who cares?) wasn't it? Luckily Bill Gates didn't create this or we'd be putting up statues of him on street corners; I'd go crazy if I had to chose between Excel and IFTTT. Could anything be simpler? Were it me, I'd start monetizing it, now! $2 bucks a recipe. What part of daily life can't IFTTT improve. Thank you for improving the quality of my life. Queen Elizabeth is spending a fortune on staff to manage the minute details of the Monarchy, too bad Will and Harry don't an hour with Grandma, it would save Britain millions and allow the country to run smoothly. IFTTT desperately needs an effective marketing (and sales ?)department.

  • Works well with Sengled lights and can connect to so many different brands!!

Just got my new Apple Watch and was thinking how cool it would be to control my lights with my watch. I tried but the shortcut app wouldn’t let me do it and I had to buy Apple product in order to use the home app. But after searching for Apple Watch apps IFTTT does the job!!! I have the app on my dock so I can control the light anytime I want! Love the app keep up the great work one thing I would like to see in the future update is making a widget a complication on your watch face. So that I can click the widget and toggle my light from my watch face instead of clicking my power button and bringing up the dock or having to find the app. Overall great app have had no issues with it at all. :))
