July 10, 2019

The Seeing Eye GPS continues to evolve with new features and improvements thanks to Aira Tech Corp. The improvements in this release are only the beginning of what is yet to come. Bug fixes and performance improvements: 1. Added a Call Aira Agent button on the location and active route screens. The Aira app can connect you with a trained professional agent to provide instant access to visual information. This can be especially helpful in situations if you have become disoriented while on route or where GPS can't assist, such as locating the front door, the elevator, or products in a store. 2. Added POI category: Aira Access Points. You can search nearby POIs that have Aira's free service Access Points. 3. Aira Access Point automatic detection and notification. Now when you approach one of Aira's free Access Points, you will receive a notification. If you already have the Aira app installed on your phone and activate that notification, it will automatically load so that you can call an Aira agent. If you do not have the Aira app installed, you will be redirected to the App Store to download the Aira app. After creating a guest account, you will enjoy free assistance from the Aira agents at locations with Aira Access Points. If you find that you do not want these notifications, you can turn this off in General Settings under the heading Notifications. 4. Fixed issues with User POI keyboard and headset button controls. The main issue was with the app opening when the play/pause button is pressed on the a Bluetooth headset. 5. Updated Google Maps SDK.

The Seeing Eye GPS continues to evolve with new features and improvements thanks to Aira Tech Corp. The improvements in this release are only the beginning of what is yet to come. Bug fixes and performance improvements 1. Improved Address and POI searches. Implemented Smart Search fields on the Address and POI search screens to minimize the need for entering information. Now you can enter the entire search in one search field and the app offers suggested matches, so there is no need to type the whole address or POI name. 2. Added automatic announcement for heading changes over 50 degrees. The default is set to announce Under 15 MPH. 3. Beta feature: Added automatic announcement for street changes after you have traveled 50 feet or 15 meters on the new street. Since this is an experimental feature aimed at pedestrian use only, the default is set to OFF. If you choose to enable this feature within Lookaround settings, we ask that you provide feedback to iPh-one@senderogroup.com about your experience. 4. View restaurant menus on Foursquare POIs. If the POI has a menu stored in the database, the app will link to it. 5. Updated indoor navigation SDKs for LoudSteps and Ningo.

3.5

September 21, 2018

Added a new source of POIs, OpenStreetMaps POIs. Changed the "beacons" button to "indoor" to reflect the variety of indoor wayfinding support available. Offering Loud Steps and Ningo for indoor wayfinding in buildings where location positioning is available. Loud Steps is a WiFi based indoor wayfinding system, which allows for turn-by-turn directions. Available building are San Francisco Lighthouse, Envision (Wichita), Chicago Lighthouse, Merchandise Mart and 1871 Chicago in Chicago, National Federation of the Blind (Baltimore), and other international locations. Stay tuned for more buildings as they are added. Ningo is an open source beacon database consisting of thousands of beacons. When you load Ningo for the first time, you will see a list of all the available beacons in your vicinity. Don't worry if your list is blank for now. We are regularly adding to it and have an online interface to make it easy for anyone to add more beacons. See https://ningo-api.herokuapp.com/ for information on how to become a contributor. The Ningo database includes the OSM indoor beacons. You can create a "getting warmer" route to any of the beacons listed. Updated Ningo and Loud Steps SDK. Serbian translation.

While this release has multiple bug fixes for the LookAround mode, it also brings significant changes to one of the app's POI sources. We have been using the Google Maps and POIs without limitation for over four years now. This has been a great gift from Google, one which we have come to count on. However, Google recently announced a price change effective June 11, that caused us to remove Google POIs from our apps. Current users of the app, it is imperative that you update to the latest version to make sure the app continues to function properly.

Description of Seeing Eye GPS

The Seeing Eye GPS, is a fully accessible turn-by-turn GPS iPhone app with all the normal navigation features plus features unique to blind users. Unique to The Seeing Eye GPS™: • Instead of multiple layers of menus, the three important navigation elements are on the lower portion of every screen: Route, POIs and Location. • At intersections, the cross street and its orientation are announced • Intersections are described (e.g. four-way) with the clock face orientation of the streets. • There are three choices for POI data (Apple, Foursquare, and OSM). • Directions are configured appropriately for Pedestrian and Vehicle routes, including heads-up announcements for approaching turns, turn now, continue straight and upcoming turns. • If one wanders off the route, it's automatically recalculated and updated turn information is announced. • Point your phone in a given direction to hear what is nearby with the LookAround Wand. • Nearby Points of interest, intersections, and heading changes are automatically announced. • Ability to run in the background or with the screen locked for iOS 7. If you are running an older version of iOS 6 only the sound effects will play and the phone will vibrate at turns and at your destination but no speech output. Note: Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. Requires: Compatible with iPhone 5, iPad Wi-Fi + 3G, iPad 2 WiFi + 3G, iPad Wi-Fi + 4G, iPad mini Wi-Fi + Cellular. iOS 9.0 or later. Seeing Eye GPS uses VoiceOver feature for audio voice output and does not contain its own voice synthesizer. Supported Maps: U.S., Canada, United Kingdom, France, Ireland, New Zealand, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Ger-many, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Lithuania, Argentina. Not all countries have full intersection descriptions. Join us on Twitter, https://twitter.com/airaio

Reviews of Seeing Eye GPS

  • please Bring Back The Annual Subscription Option

For over two years, I've been an avid user of your app. However, there have been two major blows recently. First, when you gave up Google POI's. The second blow is coming right now, when you have discontinued the annual subscription option.
Please bring back the annual subscription, with better pricing compared to the monthly option. Otherwise, purchasing this app no longer makes sense for me.
    Thank you!
  • App is good POI’s are awful

Maybe the PO eyes work better elsewhere but in a college town it looks like the fools and idiots took over
  • Pretty good but keep Google POIs

Works pretty good. There is no GPS that is exactly perfect every time. Some of the things that people are hoping for are not feasible and even some not possible. Google POIs are very crucial to this app and cooperation should happen in order to maintain them. The blind community has come to depend on this app for mobility independence and even safety. So let’s work together and find a way to make it happen.
