  • Great when it works

I keep getting an error when I try to draw anything since the update. It worked great until then, but crashes literally any time I use it now. Needs fixed bad.
  • So Much Potential, Even More Frustration

Make No mistake, this app is going to be absolutely fantastic in it's finished form. However, right now it is extremely frustrating to use and feels very beta-ish.
Now, it is true that I am using it on an iPhone with my finger. I am getting frustrated entering even the simplest notation.

I expect big things, and once the bugs are worked out this will be fantastic. It is definitely one-of-a-kind.

  • Shows much promise.

I'm a professional copyist and orchestrator. This software isn't yet ready for prime time, but it is quite usable and looks like it could shape up into a truly groundbreaking app for sketching musical ideas. I been trying some rather tricky notations with four voice harmony and multiple articulations. It still requires a lot of fiddling to make it work with such complexity, but I've been impressed nonetheless.

It's a little slow at recognizing the written input with complex items, but by no means unusable. With a bit more work, I could easily see myself using this on the go when I need to quickly write down an idea that will be later imported to a full desktop notation program. I love the XML export for this reason.

Bottom line: There's nothing else quite like this app. It's very usable on simpler notation, and can handle more complex ideas with some extra work. I'm very curious to see how the program develops. I'll probably increase the number of stars as features are refined in future updates.

  • Fantastic

A wonderful app for those who like to hand write music on a staff. The app is quick and easy to get started with. Definitely worth the price. I have been waiting for an app like this to come out for sometime. Dropbox integration is a definite plus. Great app!
  • Not there by a long way

As an old timer who has spent most of his career hand writing scores, because there was no other option, I have dreamed of something like this. I still prefer pencil and manuscript paper and find having to do everything on the computer these days slow, laborious and tedious.
I think this app is a great sign of things to come and it really is a promising start. However, it's not up to a standard yet where it is of any real practical use at a professional level.
But keep up with improvements and I will be following closely, living in hope.

  • Too expensive for the price they want to charge

I am willing to give this a go, but the software still has troubles recognising notes on ledger lines, and some accidentals. Plus for the features that it can do, I think a fair price would be $15-20, similar to other notation softwares like Notion. $30 is really too much (the software is on beta now, thus the asking price is only $15).

  • Almost works, still beta quality

    Pros:
    - (in theory) easy to notate by hand instead of learning a new interface
    - easy to copy paste notes
    - easy to edit your drawings of your notation

    Cons:
    - crashes or hangs a fair amount
    - even though I am "100%" trained, it frequently does not recognize what seems clear to me. Redoing very similar strokes will be recognized. I can't figure out what I did differently to make it work.
    - works best with a top notch stylus. Staff is too small for accurate finger drawing.
    - not really suitable for serious work, as you are always editing your handwritten notes. You do not have the option to edit the "pretty" score by selecting a rendered measure or an empty staff and putting music there.
    - the inaccuracies slow me down enough that it is much quicker to use a more traditional notation app.

    Conclusion:
    - not useful to me yet, but interesting enough for me to keep revisiting it on updates to see how it has improved, in the hopes that it does become useful.

  • Lot of potential

Having used a number of music composing programs on my iphone this is the one I've been waiting for.
Fiddly on an iphone 5. Would not use it on anything smaller.
Does seem to chew through the battery. Sometimes jumps while writing.
Yes it's not quite there yet. Will I be able to make solid use of it? not sure.
Will I keep experimenting with it? Definitely

  • Musical handwriting recognition

This is an idea that works well with a tablet. I know the app is still in development but there is a promise of things to come. The interface is simple but very functional. I see it more as part of a workflow right now. You have some ideas, you jot them down real quick, see how they sound and then export them to some other app for refinement. The recognition engine works pretty well actually. There is a training period where the app 'learns' your style. The app really does seem to learn or maybe I was the one learning. Not sure. Anyway I see it as something useful for any musician. Looking forward to some of the new features promised.

  • Promising but some way to go

Entering notation directly with a finger/stylus for quick conversion into an exportable file seems like an intelligent exploitation of the iPad's capabilities for the composer and arranger. I very much wanted this app to work and persevered with it for some time but was ultimately disappointed by its tendency to freeze/crash quite regularly. If the basic problems can be addressed I will be returning to this with renewed enthusiasm.
