  • The Best Classics App Available

This is the most useful Classics app around. Having Lewis & Short, the LSJ, plus a number of other dictionaries and Classics encyclopedias - all offline - is nothing short of a godsend. Every other dictionary app that I've encountered offers only Latin or Greek; to have both languages included in one package is fantastic. I highly recommend this for all advanced (and even intermediate) Classicists.

  • One of a kind

The app has the most expansive (and credible) dictionary of Latin and Greek I have yet to find in iTunes. On top of that, it works offline! The only problem is that the search engine is a little limited when it comes to searching different word morphologies; with Latin, for example, I can only find words if I search its nominative form. Of course having all forms would take up a lot of memory. Perhaps the app can become online compatible in the future? ;)

Thanks for a truly awesome app! Indispensable for scholars on the go without an Internet connection.

  • So much great data

This application is the Greek and Latin dictionary I've wanted for years. Finally, the data is clearly formatted, information is organized, and multiple sources are collated. The aesthetic is pleasing, but the data is gold. I could not recommend this application enough for a classicist!
  • Good

Great app and the ducange addition adds a great dimension. I used the Perseus website but prefer this app since it doesn't use the internet and loading times are very quick on my 4S
  • Great app, the best (with reservations) out there.

There are so many good features on that app! I'm only going to describe the Greek features, but Latin is also supported (including a version of Du Cange, the huge Latin-Latin dictionary of medieval and early modern Latin). Best for me is that it includes the most up-to-date Greek dictionary, the Diccionario Griego-Españo (DGE) where it exists (big classical dictionaries take decades to complete, as we know). Middle Liddell is there (and we should look up most words there before looking in LSJ as the big lexicon has too much info for most words to be an efficient source). It also quotes a number of examples drawn from a corpus of Greek texts (less useful for the beginner). Also useful are things like telling you which chapter of Reading Greek a common word is found in, a list of the 'top five' authors who use the word and finally a list of 'collocations' or words often associated with the word under discussion in texts. These latter functions are data taken from a server, so are not available offline, but the core lexica (including DGE!) are always svailable.

The one thing it doesn't have is a parser, so you need to know the dictionary form. Similarly and disappointingly you can't look up irregular aorists or perfects in Greek or Latin, a genuine drawback especially when we're starting Greek or Latin. Actually the Latin case is not as bad as many perfect forms can be found as the app will refer you to the web site if you have a connection and some at least principal parts are available there.

I hope the authors will add in links for irregular aorists/perfects/participles as these are a nightmare for beginners and also provide some form of parser. But I'm rather overwhelmed by the app!

    Developer Response

hi! Thank you for your kind review! Logeion is already very large as an app, but you can paste or type in the entire word in Logeion on the web and get a parse if it occurs in our database. Also, we have just re-released the Attikos app - with any luck, the text you are reading is featured there and will show what morphological parses we have. Thanks again.
  • Great app

Great design and content. Highly recommended to Latin students.
  • Wonderful tool for Latin!

Logeion has eliminated countless frustrations for me in translating from Latin. The online version is an indispensable reference for dictionary information, made even more useful by its ability to interpret some inflected forms and non-standard (or simply post-classical) spellings.
  • Great app!

It is a very useful app, essential for any Classics student.
