Feedback on St Nectans glen walk.

The app is great, really accurate at keeping us on track or letting you know if you slightly go off course. Very helpful. We both said we’d have either not found the walk or got terribly lost without the app! The walk itself was average. The natural beauty of St Nectans in our view spoilt by the tacky naff shop, garden ornaments/statues, knickknack's in the area, really not needed as the waterfall itself is fabulous! They charged us £16 for 2 to walk down to see the waterfall, something surely everyone should be able to see not just those who can afford it? The quarry end of the walk was dull. There are a few changes to the path which I will let you know about also. Highlights were a beautiful sunny winters day, being out walking with a friend, the waterfall (although very expensive viewing of nature) and a beautiful ruin of an old Mill. Great app. Will look forward to trying other walks. Thanks

Thanks for the feedback. Obviously as app developers and walk authors, the prices of attractions in Cornwall are outside our control but I've added a link for the walk to the prices to make it easier to research in advance before deciding to buy that walk vs others. The cafe and toilets can be accessed without paying to visit the waterfall so I've also added a note about that, and to the dogs section that the cafe is dog-friendly. Thanks for the heads-up about the new fencing near Trewinnick.

Maenporth to Budock Water

What an amazing app!!! iWalk Cornwall could not make their walls easier to navigate. Simply unbelievable.

Lives up to its promise!

Unlike so many apps that promise you helpful advice & guidance for walking, this one really delivers. We came across it by accident while on holiday and have used for two excellent circular walks that we’d never have worked out for ourselves. Love the way it tells you if you go away from the route - very reassuring (even if it’s intentional 😊)

Did find it a bit glitchy switching between the written directions and the map which was frustrating. And would be great to have a choice of pricing models - £2.99 for a single walk is really good value but over a week or two weeks’ holiday would add up very quickly, so having the option of a weekly or monthly subscription would be fabulous.

And would love to have a version for our home county of Derbyshire - SO many people would get such value from it in the glorious Peak District.

Thank you. We're sticking to Cornwall for the foreseeable future as an essential part of keeping the directions accurate is that we need to physically drive to each walk location and re-walk to the route on a regular basis to check and update the directions for changes to the path furniture and signage (which happens pretty continuously). (The pricing structure also follows from that as each walk needs to independently fund its own ongoing physical upkeep). If you have a moment sometime to give us a bit more info about what seemed glitchy in the switching behaviour from directions to map, we can see if we can capture some usability or performance tweaks for the next app release (either contact us on more options in the app if you still have it installed or apps@iwalkcornwall.co.uk will also reach us). Thanks again for taking the time to leave a detailed review. Kind regards, John.

Great walking app, easy, informed & up to date

Loved my first full use of this app, using a paid for download map (only £2 or so and so much better than just trying to follow without ) it connected perfectly regardless of signal, with regular beeps to get my attention at junctions or stiles. Very detailed guidance with visual clues makes it so easy to follow the paths. Lots of background info as you walk, interesting stories and history, flora and fauna and butterflies and birds- we ignored some of it to focus on our surroundings and keep the walk flowing, but all good. We discovered a very cheap coastal carpark and wonderful cafe too. A great way to discover new walks tailored to your needs

Location doesn’t work, so frustrating!

I walk to love this App but it’s so frustrating. It keeps telling me that location services are not enabled and so nothing works on the ap. No matter how many times I enable location for the ap it is never convinced and I keep getting stuck in a loop of opening the settings, checking location setting is on, and then back to the iWalk Ap which says location is switched off ?!?!?!! I have updated the ap and it makes no difference. Also I don’t see why you can’t just manually switch through the pages of the walk as you go through it, seeing the pictures and instructions as you go, without having to use the location setting. You can download a pdf of the instructions but it’s not so easy to understand without the map and pictures. Very frustrating!

Sorry to hear you had problems. It takes a while for Apple reviews to come through so this has only just reached me (the "Contact Us" mechanism in the app is generally the best option as this uses email so it's pretty instant). The current app version has been live for several months and has been used by thousands of people without any problems reported so it seems likely it's something fairly specific to your phone. With a bit more info ("contact us" via the app and include the diagnostic info) we'll see if we can help you to troubleshoot why your phone isn't returning the correct location permissions to the app. Kind regards, John.

Neurodivergent friendly

Both myself and my brother are Autistic and have no sense of direction. We have previously tried the "classic walks: cornwall" book and I struggled greatly being able to interpret some of the directions.
Since the app has GPS, it worked even when there was no signal, and I could switch between written directions (with added additional interesting information about the environment etc), which would automatically update as I reached certain points, and a map with a moving arrow that helped me reorientate myself if necessary.
Went round Golitha Falls, and Siblyback lake, which is an area that we're not familiar with, and found it very easy to enjoy the scenery as the app did all the heavy lifting.
You can also turn your phone off on the wall as it'll beep to alert you if you've gone off track, or reached another way mark.
Thoroughly recommend.

Thank you. Really glad you enjoyed it. The next app release will also include automatic rotation of the map in the direction of travel (i.e. up on the phone will be forwards on the route) to make it easier to process for many people who don't find it easy to mentally rotate the direction they are facing onto "north is up" maps.

Amazing and easy to use

We found ourselves in areas of outstanding beauty using this app. The planning of hikes was brilliant. So many options - we liked being able to plan circular hikes of moderate length and there were many to choose from!
Navigating once on a hike was very ease. I would have been lost on many occasions otherwise .

Fab app

I had tried this a while back but was still “old school” and printed the directions and took a OS map as well. Discovered various footpaths that I had not expected and directions well described and the added bits of information make it more interesting. Now a few years later I used it again and although I still took printed sheets (just in case) only used the app and was very impressed. A map, compass and guide book all in one! No doubts as to the way and the info bits turn what could be a route march into a lovely bimble taking time to look at all around if that is what you want your walk to be. Easy to use and fab.

Great app - responsive and reliable

We have been using this app for just over a year and it’s the best walking app we have tried by far. The directions have taken us to new routes even in places we thought we knew well. The step by step directions work really well, even in places where the phone reception wasn’t great. There is also interesting contextual information. The App will let you know if you deviate from the track. I was particularly impressed by the response when we reported a new, temporary hazard (the marsh to be crossed on the Stanton walk was knee deep after heavy rain). I reported the issue at night, and John the app developer had changed the information for the walk by the following morning. Do make sure your phone is fully charged though before walking. My year old iPhone starts the walks at 100% but ends on about 25% - I think the GPS on iPhones is quite hungry for battery. Really recommend this app. It’s well worth the price of downloading the walks (which you do individually)

Golitha Falls and Siblyback Lake

I am a long and very happy user of the iWalk Cornwall app. However (and obviously not the app’s fault I thought you would like to receive these comments.
In the directions it states in red that the footpath sign at number 9 is missing, and to let you know if it has been reinstated. In fact it is still missing but that is a minor issue really. The gate is roped shut in a way that makes it impossible to open and every gate rung is covered in barbed wire, also there is a large sign on the gate stating Beware of the bill!! Needless to say I did not venture in. A shame as it meant much more of the walk was by road.
I have told many people that your app is my favourite ever and that is very true. I hope you have some success in getting the access back
Kind regards
Jane Bavister

Thanks for letting me know Jane, I'll pass this onto the Countryside Access Team at Cornwall Council so they can get the gate sorted out. Obstructing a public right of way is illegal (and there is little chance of a bull on the downs as the land is unenclosed so that's likely to be misleading signage which is also something the council would want to have stern words about). A tip for the app is that on the directions screen of the walk, if you tap on the menu next to a direction number there's an option to report a footpath issue for that direction - that automatically populates an email to the council's Countryside team with all the information that they need about the location and it's then possible to attach photos to the email which can speed things along by saving them sending a ranger out to confirm it's not a red herring. Thanks again for feeding this back. Kind regards, John PS. You can also email me directly via apps@iwalkcornwall.co.uk (or via "contact us" on the more options menu the app).
