  • Almost excellent

    This is really pretty good, it's just missing a couple of features:

    - Tapping "Earlier" to see departed trains in the Common Journeys section. That would be incredibly helpful to follow a journey you've already started, to see issues with connecting trains etc. The journey planner can do it, but that means tapping in your commute details every day…
    - Apple Pay and Wallet support.

    Other than that it's a great app.

  • Too complicated / no saved stations

    I found the old Southern app was really good as it allowed you to ‘save’ stations that you regularly use. You could then quickly go to that station to see live departures/arrivals. This new app doesn’t allow this so you have to keep typing the station name each time.

    There’s also a lot more info which makes it a bit confusing.

    Perhaps when I’ve used it a bit more it will be easier but the old app was very intuitive in comparison.

  • Ticket wallet

    Why has this been removed? For those of us who buy advance tickets we now have to scroll through 3 months worth of ticket purchases to find todays one to print at the station. Such a backward step for the app and major inconvenience for customers. Many will move to train line as a result!
  • Look back at prior trains

    Please add back the ability to view trains that have already departed. When on your train it’s helpful to look it up to see times it’s getting into next stations.
  • New live times not VI Accessible

    I tried the new live map and it expanded ok so I chose my station. The live times are displayed in small text - they should be using my system Font Size settings but they dont. Worse than that, when I stretched the pop-up so I could read what it said it became blank.
    BUG! Please fix the bug.
    Better still, pick up my Font Size (and Bolded) from the system settings and use my settings for all text in your app.

  • I find it too much information at once and can’t save journeys

    It’s wonderful that you finally updated the app. I made it easier to buy tickets. However, I find it very confusing. I’m not very user friendly. And when I say that I mean the layout. I preferred the block simple layout of the previous app. I found it a lot easier to understand and see my journey. I understand this version of the app will take time to get used to. But I did appreciate the previous app being more straightforward. But I’m glad you’ve made improvements with the payment and also the buying of train tickets.

  • Better than I first thought!

    I wrote my initial review(below) but once I explore the app in more detail, I found you can actually configure your home screen as you see fit. The app is far better than initially thought.

    The old version of the app was excellent immediately showing you the information you needed to know for the journeys today. This is now heading behind multiple clicks and menus. It’s great for buying tickets, but I buy a ticket once and check a journey many times, so it’s now back to front in terms of usefulness As a regular commuter, this app is no longer helpful.

  • Now just another clunky booking app

    The Southern app used to be my go-to app for checking train’s live updates including delays and platform numbers.

    The new update has made it essentially just a train ticket booking app, just like the other ten or so on my phone. Which makes sense for Southern I guess but it means it’s no longer something I will use, especially as there are better deals to be got through other operators/ticket sellers.

    One of the best features used to be putting in a destination and finding journeys including ones that had already set off, to be able to check status. Now it’s so focussed on ticket-buying that I have to search with ticket specifics first, and then only get results departing *from now*, and even then the focus is on price and making sales.

    Overall disappointing for me but I understand the change. I guess I’ll just have to find another app for what I want.

  • Great improvement

    Vast improvement over the old app, thanks for listening to feedback and making a new modern app!

    Only issue so far is when trying to buy season tickets it fails saying there is nowhere available to collect even when I just want to load onto my smart card - but works fine on the website.

    Next thing which would be great is to be able to add the key to my phone wallet so that I don’t need the physical card!
