Version History of Pado

3.0.11

Because of a bug in iOS 17.5/watchOS 10.5 the communication between iPhone and Apple Watch is no longer working correctly when transferring files from the watch to the iPhone. The watchOS does no longer get the information wether the file was transferred correctly or not. So if the Pado Watch App sends a track to the iPhone and the track was successfully transferred the WatchOS is supposed to tell Pado that the file was transferred correctly. But because this doesn't happen anymore, Pado on the Watch still assumes that the file was not yet transferred and therefore tries to resent the track later again (and again). In general this isn't a big issue and would not be noticed, unless you delete the track on the iPhone, in which case it would reappear again when the Pado Watch and Phone Apps are communicating again.   The new release of Pado implements a workaround to prevent that the track is resent again. However because it never gets any information about the success of these transfers, it still marks all the tracks as "not yet sent to the iPhone". As soon as Apple fixes this bug of iOS/watchOS evertyhing should go back to normal

- The WebHook parameters can be customized, so that you can now also send WebHook requests to devices which only accept very specific parameter names and values. You can change the parameter names of all the default parameters, but also add completely new parameters and their values (in the settings under "WebHook"). - A new option in the settings allows to change the x axis of track chart to either show the absolute time or the duration (relative from the track start) - The "needle" icon on the Map now also includes the option to zoom to the start and end of a track, if a track is shown on the map. - The Track-specific settings now provide an option to add a general description for the track, which unlike a "note" is not bound to a specific coordinate - Bugfix: The "Filter" options for the tracks list offers to search for tracks which go through a certain location. It should have been possible to search for a location that is currently not saved a region already, but this did not work. This is fixed now - Bugfix: In very rare cases when iCloud sync for tracks was enabled, a track recording was successfully synced to the iCloud, but because of a strange response of the iCloud the track data was deleted on the device. This should not happen anymore and the new release should also load the missing track data from the iCloud again

- There's a new option in the "Track Recording" settings where you can define the accuracy for the recorded data. Previous versions of the App always used the best accuracy. When reducing the accuracy the recorded tracks need less space and the battery usage can be lower as well. The accuracy setting only affects the standard track recording. - Battery consumption optimization for the "Track recording" Live Activity. This widget should need less energy now. - Battery consumption optimization for the Watch App - Bugfix: The "Autostop" option when entering a region for geo-based actions which were triggered by leaving a region did not always work - The Notes feature will now show some basic information about the location below the note

- There's a new widget for the Homescreen available which shows the steps of the currently active step counter as bar chart - Fixes an issue where the recording view on the iPhone did not update itself when the recording was started/stopped remotely on the Apple Watch. - Fixes the duration that was shown on the Apple Watch in the alternative recording view. - Fixes an issue where the main menu on the iPad did not show up when it was hidden - Fixes an issue where displaying the speed/altitude charts for long long-term tracks was too slow.

- When defining a geo-based action to start a recording it is now possible to directly define the track color for the tracks which are created by this action. - The Tracks view has now an option to animate the travel route of the track on the Map and the chart. The "play/stop" button can be found in the charts view for the track and when tapped will show an animation of the whole travel route on the Map (a Pin which moves on the track based on the recorded speed) and the information window on the chart will show the details as well. Long-pressing the play/stop button lets you play the animation in different speeds. - When importing GPX or KML files the new release will now show a list of all tracks, routes and places that are found in these files (if there're more than one), so you can select only those items you actually want to import. - The Watch App has now alternative Dashboards for the recording view as well (simply tap into the dashboard to toggle between the two options) - The App provides a larger collection of unique colors for the charts to avoid reusing existing colors when a larger number of data values have to be displayed. - Bugfix: When using the "remote control" feature on the watch for the step counter running on the iPhone, stopping the step counter did actually work, but did not show the new status on the watch. - Bugfix: Importing GPX tracks from other Apps via ShareSheet did not work if the App was terminated before from within the task switcher - Bugfix: The charts for the Timetracking feature could crash in case the time/duration unit settings were configured to the extra long time option. - Bugfix: Pasting a UUID value into the text field when defining a Bluetooth beacon did not work

Bugfix: When defining time/date restrictions for location-based action the configuring the allowed start and end time did not work.

3.0.3

- The filter function for saved tracks has been optimized and no longer blocks when filtering locations (when there are thousands of tracks). Filtering by location can still take longer if there are thousands of tracks, but now runs in the background - The filter function can now also filter by date and time - When restoring data, the backup function now only offers data that can actually be found in the backup. - There is a new setting to display the status of the step counter and track recording in the navigation bar of the main menu (so the status remains visible even when the menu is minimized). - You can now also assign tags to saved tracks, which can then be used to group the tracks list. - It is now easier to specify the tags (tracks & actions) via a selection list - The input dialog for numerical values now has a "Undo" button with which you can undo changes again - There is a new option in the navigation bar: the button at the top right can not only switch between two sizes when tapped, but can now also be long-pressed and then opens a menu that can be used to switch between several sizes. On the iPad, the entire view on the left-hand side can also be completely hidden in order to see the map in full screen. - The Watch App now also has an alternative dashboard layout; you can switch between the two layouts with a single tap. - On the Apple Watch, entries in the steps and tracks list that have not yet been synchronized to the iPhone are now marked with a dot. - Bugfix: Under certain circumstances, the calculation of the duration of breaks did not work - Bugfix: On the Apple Watch, the view was not updated immediately when manually transferring the data to the iPhone. - Bugfix: Loading saved locations could fail if the locations date back to iOS 5/6 and have never been changed and no locations have been added or deleted since then

- Fixes a few issues which potentially could result in a crash under very special circumstances - It turns out that HealthKit has issues with tracks (exported to HealthKit) if these have "gaps" of more than 5 seconds (for example in areas with bad or no GPS reception, like in tunnels, buildings etc). In this case HealthKit simply doesn't save the track or at least the Fitness App doesn't show them. The new Pado release will now fill these gaps with "dummy" data to work around this issue. - New WebHook feature: Time Tracking (check-in/check-out) and Track Recording (start/stop) can be now also reported to the WebHook server. For time tracking this can be enabled individually for each time tracking entry. For track recordings you can enable this is the settings. If enabled Pado will send information about the current region or location to the webhook server whenever the status changes. There will be a new "source" parameter sent to the webhook server which can be used to find out from which source the information is coming, possible values are "action", "recording", "longtermrecording" and "timetracking". For time tracking the enter/exit parameters will be used to tell the server whether Pado has entered or exited the region. For recordings the parameters "start" and "stop" are used to indicate wether the recording was started or stopped.

There were a few issues in the new App version which are addressed with this update: - Bugfix: Importing GPX files could fail - When importing GPX files without speed information, Pado will now calculate the speed information itself - Bugfix: Opening the Stepcounter could freeze the App in case the Stepcounter is still running and was running for an extremely long time (years). The new release will show the progress in a chart and putting years of data in one chart is actually far more than the iOS charts framework can handle. So the step counter will now limit the data that is shown in the chart. - Bugfix: When using the WebHook feature to be notified about significant location changes, not all of the data that was sent before was sent with the new version. - There's a new switch for the WebHook feature where you can decide wether the message information is only sent to the webhook server or also posted as local notification to be notified on the phone about these webhook actions. - When sharing coordinates (tap or long-press on coordinates) will now also provide options to explicitly share these to Apple, Google and Bing Maps.

Price History of Pado

Description of Pado

Pado is all about geo-tracking. RECORD TRACKS Record the routes/tracks of your hikes, bike tours, excursions, trips or sporting activities and evaluate them on a map, via diagrams and statistics. You can do this manually and spontaneously, but also fully automatically in the background. The latter can be helpful on vacations if you want to automatically record your local activities so that you can retrace them later ("Where was that café again?"). To do this, you tell the app once that the recording should be started when you leave the hotel and stopped when you enter it again. From then on, you no longer have to worry about it, but you still have all the routes of all the activities saved in the app when you get home. Pado can display the heart rate data from Health-Kit together with the recorded tracks/routes. The photos from the album that were taken during the recording of the track can also be accessed via pins on the map. This makes it very easy to have all the data and photos directly available on the map if you want to retrace a hike. The exported/imported options as GPX or KML files allow data exchange with other apps. Especially for sporting activities, the app offers a voice output that provides status messages about the distance already covered, current speed, duration, altitude, direction, etc. during a track recording. This keeps you informed about your progress without having to look at your iPhone. STEP COUNTER The app offers a pedometer that can also count the floors climbed and shows how far you are from your daily steps goal. TIME TRACKING The "Time tracking" feature allows to automatically log when you are at which location and for how long. You simply define the locations to be monitored and the app does the rest. ACTIONS The heart of Pado are the location-based actions. You can define locations and what the app should do when you enter or leave these (the App will do this automatically in the background, it does not need to be active). The action can control track recording, the pedometer, the music player, notifications. The "WebHook" feature can be even used to carry out actions outside the iPhone. WebHook sends data to your own server, which can be used to link Pado to your own home automation system. APPLE WATCH Pado supports the Apple Watch and can record tracks/routes and steps autonomously (without having the iPhone with you). The Watch app can also remotele-control the iPhone app so that the iPhone can stay in your pocket. SYNCING OPTIONS - iCloud - Dropbox - WebDAV HARDWARE SUPPORT - Bluetooth Beacons, NFC Tags, AirTags (as trigger for actions) - WLAN positioning (in areas with good WLAN coverage) for devices without GPS hardware (some iPad models). NOTE Long-term use of GPS in the background can shorten the battery life. PAYMENT MODEL With Pado 3, the payment model has changed. The previously paid app is now offered free of charge. There are now three app levels: - Free: A maximum of 3 locations, 3 actions and 3 entries for time tracking can be created - Standard (one-time purchase): A maximum of 25 locations, 25 actions and 25 entries for time tracking can be created. - Pro (one-time purchase): Any number of locations, actions and entries for time tracking can be created. Everything else is available in all three levels without restrictions Users who have already purchased earlier versions of the app will automatically receive the Standard level free of charge. If restrictions have already been reached, existing actions/locations are not restricted. New users can now react more flexibly to their own needs and use one of the three options as required. An inexpensive update from the Standard to the Pro version is also available at any time, in case you need more than you initially thought. There is now also a tipping option for all those who value the app more than the small one-time payments and want to do something good for the developer.

  • Seems to be temperamental again

After having issues for months the app was fixed, and has been working for a couple of months now. But today yet again it seems to be recording only when it wants to. I have been out and about today and nothing was recorded (even though it showed up in the Dynamic Island). It has been working for months. I haven’t changed any settings at all.

    Developer Response

Please do not use the AppStore review system for support requests, it is not really suitable for this. Please use my regular E-Mail address to get help.  Because there's no new release available, the App itself has not changed, so the issue you describe is most likely caused by something outside of the App. My assumption is the following: The iOS might have asked you for permission to let the App always use the location services again (the iOS does this from time to time, even if you already have granted the permission, just to make sure that you are still fine with this choice). If you have missed such a permission request from the iOS and did not answer it or accidentally denied the request, the App would not be able to work automatically in the background anymore. It needs the permission to always use the location service to do this. So you need to go to the system settings and give Pado the permission to always use the location services again. If this doesn't help, please try if rebooting the iOS solves the issue.
  • Regions are uncontrollably duplicated

I just got a new phone and restored from iCloud backup. Now data on both my new phone and old have regions that multiply whenever they are deleted. After deleting two the app crashes

    Developer Response

Please contact me via E-Mail so that I can investigate the issue. It is likely that this is a issue within the iCloud service itself - with some luck you might be able to fix this by rebooting both devices.
  • Great app for activity tracking

Pado should be better known. So should Alexander Clauss. He’s been making useful, lightweight, feature-rich, privacy-preserving and affordable apps for the Apple ecosystem for a long time, charges very little for them (no subscriptions!) and yet still updates them regularly. He embodies the old school shareware ethic that focused on improving people’s lives instead of exploiting every opportunity for profit, which is a breath of fresh air in the current hyper capitalistic environment.
