Bad update

While I love the personal touch of real reviews by a team of real people, this new UI update makes this app less good. I get that it looks nicer and is easier to navigate but we lost granularity of information. The expert review used to have a graph of the flavor profile and showed many different flavors and how intense each was, now however, there is just a bar saying about 3 flavors. I used to use this all the time I was looking for new bourbons since it showed so much info but now it doesn’t show as much and I will probably use it less.

For development/product team, please add back the more detailed graph! It was my favorite thing about this app.

Great resource

It’s really the best app of it’s kind -would love to try premium if it was offered to purchase thru the app -i’d throw some support your way in a heartbeat I’ve been waiting to see that in an update for years hopefully you can add that feature someday soon but cheers on making a great little app you can fire up when your enjoying a nice beverage and honestly having that info at my fingertips actually makes me enjoy trying different bottles a lot more so keep up the great work and hopefully you can make some tweaks to bring everyone an even better experience in the years to come -

Fantastic app

This is my only app to track my inventory, have my wish list, have notes on bourbon and other liquor tastes. It is very user friendly and lets you make the various lists you want. Everyone should have this app if you are interested have a great resource available.

Distiller is great starting point

I enjoy using Distiller when tasting bourbon or seeing a bottle that I am not familiar with to gain some profile notes. Everyone’s pallet is different, so by reviewing tasting notes on a bourbon that I am familiar with I have found some app users that have similar likes to mine, which gives me another reference point before making a purchase.

Great with the update

Awesome update. Have asked to be able to compare two bottles side by side which would be great for consumers. I typically use the app to tell me what tasting notes I’ll be getting in a dram

Where are the old graphic

In this New Version the app works greatly but the old graphics disapear

Missing graphs and scans

Need the old graphs again, and scanning a bar code was in free version. Not impressed with the update.

Redesign is nice, loses info

Please bring back the full flavour profile graph and pricing metrics, they are sorely missed on the product info pages, as well as the comparison statements in the “you may also like” section. The redesign is nice overall, but without these it feels like it’s missing info.

Update doesn’t address major flaws

I was looking forward to the new UI of Distiller, but the latest update didn’t address some of the major issues I had with the app:

#1 - the fact that you can’t *permanently* keep your lists sorted in a specific way. For example, if you wanted to sort a list in alphabetical order, leave and then come back - the list will have reverted back to the default order(date added). This drove me absolutely crazy in the previous version, and it is so frustrating to not see it addressed here.

#2 - loading times. The older version took forever to load just about anything on the app. This has not been addressed, and even scrolling through your own lists have loading timeouts. That’s just unacceptable.

#3 - the UI itself. There was a clear effort to make navigation easier in this version, but now the text and images are so big there’s barely any information on the screen at a time. It’s like using your iPhone with large text accessibility mode. And with no options to change this, it’s another star knocked off the review.

To summarize: if you’re using Distiller to find reviews of specific products, you’ll probably find this app useful. But if you want a way to catalogue and rate your growing collection, then just create a spreadsheet. That’s what I’ll be doing, and not renewing my Distiller Pro subscription when my current one expires.

Response from developer

Hi slimpunk, thank you for taking the time to leave this detailed review. It's helpful information that can help us make improvements with future versions. I can address each point here: #1 - This is a great quality of life improvement, and one that I have passed along to the team to discuss for implementation. Thank you for sharing it. #2 - This is something I'd love to get more information from you about. Load times should not be significant at all, and it's something we've worked quite hard on improving. Internally testing load times, even on profiles with a huge amount of reviews and lists, are actually quite fast. If you'd be open to sharing some information with us regarding your device type, OS version, and what your username is, we can get to work on figuring out if there's something causing this issue. We're at hello@distiller.com and would love to work on this for you. #3 - This is an interesting issue that we're hearing from some specific device/OS combinations. By default the text is normal sized and absolutely should not look like it's using text accessibility mode. Again, if you'd be open to reaching us at hello@distiller.com, we'd like to get more information about your device, because as I said, this is absolutely not supposed to be how it looks. If you take a look at our screenshots in the app store, that's an accurate representation of the design. Thanks again for all of the detailed points, they're very helpful. We'd love to hear from you to work on fixing some of these problems. Thanks again!

Excellent app for the spirits aficionado

I love this app. It does precisely what you ask of it, which is to identify and describe alcohols that you haven't had the time or interest to read a dissertation on. I use it to steer my choices when I feel like trying out a new whiskey and it rarely disappoints.

I also love the way it allows you to catalogue and track what you have tried. I can't remember everything I've tried and when I tried it but as long as I take about 5 minutes to work out a few of my thoughts and add the drink to one of my lists, I know that my impression will always be there to be quickly recalled on my phone.
