No support available?

I really liked this app. Used if for 5 years. But recently stopped syncing between devices. Multiple emails asking for advice but no response. If you use on one machine only, this may not bother you, but for me this is a reason to avoid it.

What?

The first word I looked up was “Balter” and it wasn’t there. Mirriam-Webster defines balter as, “to dance or tread clumsily”. I guess I have a bigger vocabulary than LookUp. Delete.

Missing Icon

As I can’t find a way to contact the developer by normal means I’m forced to write a review! Great app BUT the LookUp icon is missing from the complication on the Apple Watch

Needs a startup page setting

I really wish Lookup would start on the search page, or have a setting to allow it. It’s such a friction point when I’m in the middle of something and just want to quickly look up a word to have to stop and fumble around to get it to go to the search page that I’m probably going to go back to Word Web if this isn’t fixed soon.

Response from developer

Hi! Thanks for reaching out, that's a good suggestion, and we will add a setting to do the same in the next version. While we work on a setting to allow that, here are a couple of ways you can achieve that right now: 1. Add a Search Widget on the Lock Screen or Control Center with iOS 18 2. Add a Search Widget on Home Screen 3. Long Press the LookUp icon and tap "Search for a word"

Bug

Doesn’t save like words

Excellent app, have improvement suggestion!

Recently, I emailed application support the following, which summarizes my like for the app and my suggestion for improvement: Hello. For a long time now, I’ve been a big fan of your LookUp iOS app, which I most often use as a dictionary. I love the beautiful imagery in your app, as all the beautiful pictures in the app make your app more a pleasure to use as a dictionary, instead of just using a plain dictionary containing only words! 👍 May I make a suggestion that I think would improve the usability of your app, not just for myself but for others as well? Include links in the definitions to similar words. Let me explain: Today I looked up the word “admonition” in your app, and the noun meaning says “an act or action of admonishing”. Since I was not certain of what the word “admonish” means, I had to go back to the search bar in the app to search on the word “admonish”, to find its definition. Had there been a link to the word “admonish” in the definition section of the word “admonition”, I could have more easily tapped on such a link and been brought directly to the dictionary definition of the word “admonish”. I certainly hope this email finds you all well. Have a wonderful weekend!! Update: I received a nice response back from the developer, indicating that these links in the app I suggested are being worked on, which is great news! 👍

Daily User

I’ve never used a dictionary on my phone, but Look Up now gets daily use! The app functions perfectly and I have never run into a single bug in all my time of using it (~2yrs now, I had it back when it was a one time purchase). I came here just to give it a review after confirming the difference between two similar words (alternate vs alternative) & realized I hadn’t helped the app out after it’s helped me out so much. So cheers dev, thanks for a great app!

In app purchase

Looks good but you can't do anything except see word of day. Everything is blocked unless you pay.

Not like it says it is

Downloaded for the word of the day widget feature advertised, which doesn’t work, the widget shows nothing

And the word of the day stopped after 2 days even in the app and haven’t showed anything. Had a potential but didn’t turn out to be nice.
