  • Absolutely incredible app

First: none of these puzzles contain any errors. I’ve solved 729 of 730 puzzles and have never had to use a hint. As the app itself tells you, the puzzles are HARD and they’re not just saying that!!

This app is so extremely satisfying for anyone looking to exercise their brain. Like I mentioned, I’ve completed all but one puzzle—the Extreme 4x5 titled Free Parking. It’s been driving me crazy for over a year now and I LOVE the challenge!! I periodically revisit it whenever I need to really work my brain.

My only “complaint” is that I’m dying for more puzzles!

  • Not as good as it was

Have enjoyed this app for a couple of years now but the quality is dropping away. The last four purchases of new puzzles have had either super easy “extreme” puzzles that have taken two minutes to complete along with ridiculously poorly designed “challenging” that defy logic. There is also overuse of the same model of puzzle i.e. the same clues being used for all puzzles so most of the enjoyment from working your way through a new set has gone. Sadly could not recommend with the current inconsistency and dull overuse of the same format for puzzles.

Edit: We're working with Penny Dell to switch back to the earlier type of puzzles. Based on your and similar feedback, we asked and they checked and found they had switched sources from one of their logic puzzle magazine collections to a different one. We'll have some more of the earlier style puzzles (with authors) coming out in the next couple of months with a little luck.Original: Hi, thanks for this review. Do you mind emailing support@eggheadgames.com with some examples? Penny Dell should be supplying us with the same quality puzzles for new volumes, and I'm definitely not aware of the same clues being (re)used and would particularly like an example of that too so we can fix it. Thanks, Michael @ Egghead Games.com
  • Strange Puzzles (both a good and a bad thing)

I've enjoyed some of these logic puzzles from the free version quite a bit. The types of hints are a bit unusual and most of them seem to rely more on weird wording to trip you up rather than genuine logic puzzling. Some of them I like quite a bit though! One thing I will note that was the main reason why I took off two stars: Some of the puzzles' hints contain SO MUCH information that you don't need. One of the puzzles ("Free Parking") talks about the position of different people's parked cars using blocks (e.g. 'Joe's car is 3 blocks west of Jane's car). None of the puzzle has to do with the position of the cars in relation to each other. In addition, one of the hints is literally useless because it tells the user that 'the last person to arrive was wearing an ascot'. None of the puzzle has to do with when everyone arrived at the event. So there's no point of the hint being there at all. Some of the puzzles are decent and have really good hints that really make you think. But some of the puzzles' hints are just annoying to deal with. TBH this app is the logic game equivalent of horror movies which rely on using cheap jump scares 99 percent of the time rather than prolonged and suspensful horror.

One of the joys (struggles!) of the Free Parking puzzle is that it requires the use of information that doesn't even appear in the answer. I need pen, sorry I mean pencil, and paper for solving this puzzle. It turns out that (without giving too much away) grouping people into "parked a block away" vs other locations is indeed a key part of solving the puzzle. I don't know of any other way to solve it. So, rather than those hints being "literally useless", they're absolutely necessary. I'm happy to be proved wrong on this, but this puzzle has proven so challenging that we prepared a PDF, with drawings, that step through the solution. Feel free to email support@eggheadgames.com if you'd like a copy - or, please, provide some way to solve this puzzle without using the blocks information and, of course, without guessing! I think you'll find another 2 stars are well deserved :) Cheers, Michael @ Egghead Games
  • One small improvement will make it a 5⭐️

I love the other logic game from the same developer so I downloaded this one too. I like that these are much more challenging and the wording of the clues is different and challenging too. My only complaint is when I get stuck and click “suggest move” it just tells you what cell to mark true or false. The other logic puzzle will explain why with something like “if a is true and b is false then this must be this”. I love that because it helps me learn and increases my skill. It helps me see what I’m missing and I noticed in the other game I was getting better at them. Please add that to this one too!

That would be awesome! Unfortunately we haven't worked out how to do it. The challenging nature and wording of these puzzles precludes building the Smart Hints we provide in our sister app. However, in case you missed it, there is an "Answer" section below the clues that provides (sometimes quite cryptic!) extra information. Please peek at that when you're stuck. Happy puzzling! Cheers, Michael @ Egghead Games
  • Poorly written clues, hints are even worse

Downloaded this from its sister app, which I loved and eased through all of their puzzles. When that app concluded, it suggested this app as a harder version or to purchase their own harder puzzles. Of course this app is “extreme” - these clues are terrible and you’re left guessing! Sometimes it names three different “people” in a clue but the “not” clue only refers to one of those people, not all of those people. Similar to: “Barry wasn't late on Thursday, which wasn’t the train”… so you’re left wondering if Barry isn’t the train as well. The wording could be slightly better to make things more clear. When you get stuck (which is often), the “hints” just tell you to mark a box as true or false without any explanation, and it’s clear that they don’t go in order - it just picks a random cell to mark as false, but it’s evident there are zero hints that would even logically lead you to that conclusion. It just told me to mark a cell as false when both the person and the day weren’t mentioned in any of the clues, and there is no supporting evidence to suggest that there any true match ups that would make another pairing false… the hints are horrible. Will not be buying additional puzzles - I’ll go back to my other logic puzzle app and will give them my money.

Thanks for the detailed and thoughtful review. Yes, these puzzles are provided by a different publisher (Penny Dell) than our other app (Puzzle Baron). They have a much greater variety of topics and clues, but even the way the clues are presented are different. Ironically, in my inbox this morning was your review, and another (on Android) saying, essentially, the opposite. I.e. that the other puzzles are anodyne and these are the "real" puzzles. In short, it's great to have choices! Thanks for trying them both.On the topic of hints, yes, this app does not have the Smart Hints of the other app - in large part because the puzzles are so variable and thus it is hard to generate good hints. However, in case you missed it (and I think we need to improve the app here), it does have an "Answer" section below the clues. This can be as cryptic as the clues themselves, but those who love these puzzles tend to enjoy them.Happy puzzling! Cheers, Michael @ Egghead Games
  • Okay

Some puzzles do not have enough information. When I asked a hint it would tell me to mark X in a cell without giving me any explanation as to why. Instead of throwing in so many red herrings they should concentrate on giving enough information to solve the problem.
  • Brilliant

I love these puzzles, they really get the brain cells working. I’m grateful to the authors for providing this large selection for free, which I have now completed. I agree with a previous comment that a more tailored purchase package would be desirable; some of us more experienced puzzlers would like a selection of the harder ones to tackle.
    Many thanks.

  • Excellent!

    Very enjoyable.
  • Hints are random

Love the layout and way the app works except where using hints - they are completely random and do not lend any explanation as to why that selection was made / how you would have got there yourself which doesn’t allow me to learn where I may be going wrong or getting stuck
  • Decent With Unnecessarily Complex Stories

The matrices don’t get any larger that 4x5 but they still have an interesting level of challenge to them. The last few puzzles’ storylines get unnecessarily complex. And just read confusing.

Re: I’ve actually played and finished the entire sister app and the additional puzzles that you can purchase on the app. My issue is not with complexity, it’s with the unnecessarily convoluted wording that doesn’t add anything to the actual puzzle.

Our sister app, Logic Grid Puzzles, has larger grids with less complex puzzles. Yes, we call these Hard for a reason. Some people really want the complex ones. Email support@eggheadgames.com if you’d like a fully worked solution to Free Parking. Happy Puzzling!
