  • Heart stop paid upgrade?

I very seldom rate apps, so please appreciate the time I’m giving you.

I’ve given one star because I’ve used Hours for ages and I’m comfortable with it, it’s a bit clunky but it does much of what I need.

I’ve just updated my app and found I’ve gone to a paid version. I’m in the middle of the week and I’m going to want to extract hours I have logged, this nearly ruined my day. Fortunately I saw another one star review to which you had responded and explained about the try-it option. I’m trying it but I’m now going to be revising my options and comparing offerings if I need to start paying.

I do understand that you don’t provide software for free and I’m not averse to paying. My first reaction is that the suggested fee is a little bit steep. I shall check out other offerings and see what the market says. If I have to revert to Excel I shall.

Thanks for the last few years, hopefully there will be more but please never make a free user think they’ve just been locked out.

  • Dissapointed

Can’t use the app unless you sign up for an account the free version was great but not enough to pay an annual membership

The feedback worked and I’m back to using this app. Not overly impressed by the time it took to hear back nor the way they changed without telling us. BUT it’s a good app and I will continue to use it.

Original: This app WAS easy and useful - I had even upgraded to a paid version for $5 or so. Then I got kicked off and can’t get logged back in because my version of the app no longer exists and only more expensive versions are now available. I lost over a year of data and can’t get anyone to contact me to help. Ironically - I would have been willing to pay for it - but not now that I can’t access my account.

  • New release bricked my free, on-device time tracking

I purchased the app several years ago, always found the developer responsive, and have recommended it whole-heartedly to friends, family, and colleagues. I value my privacy, however, and the most recent upgrade is forcing me to create an account with them, presumably to store my data off-device, and pay them an annual subscription to do so. This is unacceptable. I would have preferred to have had warning of my licensed version reaching end-of-life, so I could have gracefully transitioned to another time tracking method. Now, I’ll have to approximate my time for the last week, and have been caught flat-footed without a new time tracking method. I will tell others to avoid this app now.

  • Get Toggl Instead

I had several timers organized by clients and tasks that I had been using for months, then all of a sudden without warning the app developer decided to completely cripple the free version of the app and put all the useful features behind a pay wall. I can still access my previous data, but now can’t make any new timers that include clients or tasks. Very disappointed. I liked the app, and probably would have payed for it, had the developer not pulled such a shady move. Once I record the data I need, I’ll be looking elsewhere for a time tracking app. Get bent Hours!

Update: So fat Toggl seems to be a good alternative to these scumbags.

  • Disappointed

This was a great app for me to use while I’m completing my honours project during my final year at uni - which is super self managed and I needed this to keep my hours up and know when I can actually have days off. Until now when there’s no free version. Thanks a lot.

You can still access your data and use Hours for Free, just select the version that is best for you, select "Try a Taste Before You Buy". Then login or create an account (name, email, password). You will get 3 free additional timers (beyond what you already have) and you can continue to use Hours for Free. If you choose, you then have the option to subscribe to Hours Personal (for the low introductory price for the first year) or Hours Pro. You will get unlimited timers, sync, automatic backup and simplified timer creation. Additionally, Hours Pro subscribers also get Hours web access. If this resolves the issue please consider updating your rating and comment. Thank you.
  • Developer locked down the free version

Developer locked down the free version so it doesn’t exist anymore and I can’t export my previous timers

  • Free version got locked out

Without warning they locked the free version on iPhone. Shameful. I won’t pay you to make more money with my own data you get free.

  • Great until it locked me out!

Have been happily using Hours for a long time, until it updated a few days ago and the widget stopped working. Upon opening the app, I've seen that you now require a paid subscription to use it, and I have been left with no access to months' worth of my tracked hours.

Very disappointed to see another quality app going downhill. I don't need to pay for online services that I'm not using!

  • Once a good app, now trash

I’ve been using this app to track my time for more than a year, and suddenly it’s prompting me to sign in and pay. I have data in this app that I need for time entries and now I cannot retrieve any of it because you decided to start forcing people to pay. Next time, how about giving people notice when you’re going to start locking all of your features behind a mandatory paywall. I don’t think you realize the mistake you’ve made. You’re going to lose a lot of users over this, myself included. I’m uninstalling this app as soon as I finish this review.

You guys really need to take a step back and evaluate just how much you care about this app as the developers. Erecting a huge paywall isn’t the way to keep customers.
