We overbaked the first iterations of BIF app. Not only did we try and help people catch creative inspiration when it happens, but we built an app that facilitated real-time collaboration of people’s saved ideas. It didn’t work - primarily not as a fast-catch of ideas in the moment, which made the real-time collaboration redundant (collaboration doesn’t work if there’s no ideas to collaborate around!). However, what we did nail was the simplest expression of idea narratives i.e. ‘Check this’ (the inspiration) and ’Makes me think’ (the associated inspired thought). It’s these 2 things that make for a fresh, compelling new idea. So, this new version of BIF app pares everything back - to do what it promises; fast-catch ideas in the moment, and save for sharing. Here’s what we’ve updated: - BIF app now requires no login - Downloading the app populates a BIF album automatically to your Photos - When you see something in the world that inspires a new thought or idea, capture it using BIF app - BIF app opens directly into camera - Take the photo - BIF app automatically uploads the photo to ‘Check this’ - Then catch the associated ‘Makes me think’ thought - so type or dictate to add - Then save - Saving puts the new idea directly into your BIF album in Photos - Share the idea directly from BIF album later to collaborate it with others BIF app is free to download now. And we’d love your feedback on how else we might use BIF app to support your creativity.
