Red Screen is annoying

I’ve used this app for years and always paid for the subscription. A few months ago they started using a red screen redirecting your attention. It happens every time I open the app and try to read a story. I pay for the stories and want the freedom to choose what I want to read. I don’t need an app “take over” that I need to click through.

Other than that completely annoying feature of a subscription app, it’s a fine. That one feature and the inability to turn it off causes me to rate this app one star.

My morning pleasure!

The Detroit News app makes my day. Its format is completely convenient and content is complete. I can't believe this is offered for free. I am concerned that with the cutbacks recently announced by The News, that this service may be reduced or eliminated. This is the first thing I go to every morning. Please keep it up!

Erratic scrolling, barely legible text

I have tried really hard to not complain because I believe strongly in supporting local journalism. But the Detroit News makes it really really hard to not complain. Their app can’t scroll smoothly, and I am constantly being jumped back to the top or rows below because (best guess) the in-app ads don’t render correctly. I keep getting pop-ups to subscribe even though I’m a logged-in paid subscriber. And the dark mode renders links as red text against a brown background, making them all but unreadable.

Great app for Detroit area news that actually works flawlessly.

This App is easy to use and provides a full equivalent to the paper version minus the ink stains on fingers. Articles are well formatted and easy to read in the app view or easily readable in the electronic facsimile version.

Terrible

TheDetNews Removes Comments Because The DetNews Does Not Agree With Them…In Some Cases, Months If Not Years After Written….Comments Removed Because The DetNews Don’t Agree? I’ll Bet Dollars To Donuts That She, The Moderator Removing Posts, Well….I’m Willing To Bet She Is A She.

No Way We Voted For Biden/Harris. No Possible Way…No One Votes For Women. Women Don’t Vote For Women. Men Don’t Vote For Women. It Just Doesn’t Happen. No Other Group Of People Hate Women More Than….Women.

DetNews Has Sold Their Soul To The Femocrats Of Michigan…Bought & Paid For By Labor Unions & Foreign Companies’ Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Attorney General of Michigan Boon-Dana Nessel-Doggle, and/or Secretary of State & Hard Working Election Thief Jocelyn Benson.

Love my News

Enjoy reading the Detroit News online. Didn’t think I would as I grew up downriver in the 60’s enjoying the paper copies of both Newspapers, one in morning and one in the afternoon. I even had a Detroit News paper route for 5 years. Loved the smell and feel of the Newspaper, thinking I can’t get use to the online version. I love the online paper as I can it it anywhere and I even get new stories early, when they happen. Great paper, keep up the good work.

DetNews Not Only Disagrees with 1st Amendment

The Detroit News Not Only Disagrees with your/our 1st Amendment Right to Free Speech But they Actively Work To Deny Free Speech. I understand that is a heavy charge to accuse someone/something of and I would Not accuse anyone or anything of Violating Constitutionally Guaranteed Rights on a whim or fleetingly or without merit. Violating our Constitution is a serious charge, it’s why I accuse the Detroit News of Violating Our Constitutionally Guaranteed Rights To Freedom of Speech. It seems I can disparage anyone as long as it’s Donald Trump or Republicans but I can’t even refer to our state governor by name…nor can I refer to our District Attorney by name…..nor our Sec of State by name. I believe the 3 names are bad words too but I hardly believe that the 3 women should be banned

It Is Awfully Unfortunate…Fool Me Once….

I can’t figure out what they are doing over there at The Detroit News…It sure doesn’t seem right, it doesn’t seem fair; it doesn’t seem like anything more than Bullying.

I just don’t seem to agree with many “Community Standards” these days…I figure what is the point of being an adult if we are forced to watch what it is we say to protect other people’s feelings.

I’ve heard it said that, “Popular Speech Doesn’t Need Protecting”….Meaning We Are Free And Have Freedom Of Speech To Express Unpopular Opinions/Views. Take for instance, an incredibly overweight teenager…it’s Not “body shaming” to have a serious talk with them about the early death they are heading for. It seems to me that there is No Such Thing As Free Speech…I’m an adult, I’ll be responsible for me. If my utterances get me into trouble, I’ll deal with the consequences. How can a newspaper decide which feelings to protect from hurt, embarrassment, or God forbid Shame? It’s arbitrary at best. At worst, it’s misandristic, petty, authoritarian, bigoted, fascist,…These Words Apply Because The Folks Censoring The Comments Are Women And I Am A Man.

Poor screen stability

The app does not have a steady scroll. While scrolling down since the latest changes the app will just reset to the header again. If you try to slow your scroll it makes no difference. The screen is jerky and too sensitive. Phone is brand new, so don’t blame that. No other news or information service exhibits the poor screen stability

The app is just plain full of glitches.
The newest is the update that happened each time you open the app now never ends. The working circle just keeps on spinning.

Deleting the app, I’m tired of you soliciting me to subscribe when you can’t keep the app running. Why would I pay for that. I already pay the government to not work, I don’t need another charity case.

You work that you can’t sell newspapers anymore, you can’t even report the news without having to go to printing. Your reporters have horrible grammar and engage in solicitous click bait to sell their poor stories.

I’m disappointed Detroit News. I WAS a fan but now I’m done with you.
