Great product ruined by subscriptions

The subscription model makes absolutely no sense for this product. This is something most people will use once every few months or less. I used it to make a few changes to my Toyota, and now it’s no longer used. If I need a scan tool, there are plenty of options that don’t require a subscription. The adapter and app are both great, but there’s just little to no value in the subscription. A one time fee per VIN would make much more sense.

Used to be good

I never write reviews but after using Carista for 4 years and witnessing the "updates" which are really huge downgrades I had to. The app is slow, you have to wait for it to connect then again after you select a menu option from there (customize, diagnose, etc.) when it should automatically connect when opening the app to begin with.

If you use it without the premium subscription the features are basic, and the price point is way too high for the paid features you do get. I paid for the app to specifically change settings that are magically missing after paying.

Also...You have to use data/wifi to use the app at all. If you need to read/clear a fault code in a bad service area, good luck since you can't use the app.

Even more annoying and costly than previously thought

So not only do I have to pay £47 a year just to turn DRLs off and on each weekend while camping, it only works with an internet signal! I’ve been unable to use this several times in remote locations which makes it even less cost effective than I thought. Please Carista, make your prices more reasonable and give options to pay far less per option instead of charging for everything I will never need or use. And no, a monthly subscription is not more cost effective as suggested in the previous review

Completely useless

And customer support - ABSOLUTELY USELESS! Please, there is no need for you to purchase this device as you are required to pay an expensive subscription to use it full featured, which is how they advertise it as a fully functioning device - it isn’t. Plenty of other devices on the market. Skip this one.

Questionable customer service

I didn’t have any errors to begin with but after running diagnostics ( I was curious to see what the app would report back), I ended up with multiple faults on the dash. Reached out to Carista for support, received a reply the following day to say try running the diagnostics again. I did and nothing changed. Followed up a couple of times for assistance but have been ghosted since. Only option is to take my car (Q5) into the dealership to resolve the issues. Cancelled my subscription and wont use this app again.

This App and Company are a Scam

I downloaded the app because I needed to register my new car battery. It didn’t work with the OBD II device I already had (Kiwi 3), so I spent the money on one of their own Carista BT OBD II adapters. I receive it, plug it in and cannot connect to the device. It doesn’t show up in my BT devices, and wont even connect through their app. I have sent multiple messages for assistance, and any response really. The customer service wont respond anymore, and closed my first ticket with no resolution or even a message back. Their refund policy is impossible to find, and they will not answer any email I’ve sent. Do not waste your time.

Expensive annual subscription

I literally need this device to turn off my DRLs when I am parked up in the camper van. Having to pay over £45 EVERY YEAR just to do that is ridiculously expensive when almost all the other features I can get from other free or much less expensive apps .
