  • For the USA only?

I enjoy doing these crosswords but there are too many clues that are aimed solely at people from the USA. Perhaps put a bit of work into making the clues a little more universal. Otherwise a great app
  • Crosswords

Needs updating more with new crosswords, it is not happening as often now since signing up!!! Obviously it’s about the adverts and not the crosswords! Been on here a long while now! and becoming less and less new crosswords and much more less and less appealing Thinking of deleting, it’s become a bore…to be honest!

  • Great app, but would prefer a new keyboard or at least optionality

I’ve loved this app and its abundance of crosswords for a few years now, however I think it can be improved by updating the keyboard ideally to match that of the phone. I find that the current keyboard isn’t as user friendly given the shape of letter keys and seems to be less sensitive (ie i often have to press numerous times to get a desired letter, and sometimes will press the wrong one too, but I don’t really have this issue with my default iOS keyboard). Some optionality in this regard would be greatly appreciated!! :)

  • Tedious and frustrating

There is a lot of content for a freemium app but the experience navigating the selection is absolutely terrible. Why would I care about the first initial and last name of the person who wrote the crossword? Why would I select that way? I would like to be able to navigate by subject matter if anything. To be fair you can filter by difficulty and size so that’s reasonable. But you have to scroll horizontally past screen after screen if puzzles, click on one and see its content, decide it’s an awful puzzle , back out then the scroll starts over from the beginning.

And speaking of awful puzzles: that’s the other big problem. The puzzles are presented in groups by author and they often just repeat the same clues or at least answers from puzzle to puzzle. Plus the spelling is often incorrect or inconsistent. I’ve also ran into many clues and answers that are just plain old incorrect.

  • Good, with some issues

This is probably the best crossword app I’ve found. Others charge way too much money or have a very limited set of puzzles. This one is free and has a ton of puzzles, which is great, but be prepared to watch a lot of ads. I mean a LOT. I can get through an easy mini puzzle in less than 30 seconds, then have to sit through a 45-60 second ad. Sometimes you can skip the rest of the ad after 15 seconds, but not always, and you’ll get an ad after every single puzzle, and it’s usually the same ad.

The interface has some issues, namely the custom scrolling. You can swipe to go from page to page of puzzles, but if you try to drag the scroll bar it will jump around and not show anything until you stop scrolling. Usually it just dumps me back on the first page and I have to swipe to get to where I want to go.

  • This game blows chunks

Sure, if you like perpetually recycled words, acronyms, multiple word prompts, and an all-around poor crossword experience, then this is the game for you! Sadly though, I think bare minimum thought processes went into developing the program that creates these crossword puzzles.

Too often I find the same prompt which leads to the same word on many different puzzles, which wouldn’t be a big deal if they weren’t immediately preceding or succeeding each other. There is also very frequent use of “words in phrases” that use short verbs such as “is or are” and short prepositions like “as, in, on, etc.,” which is incredibly lazy.

I prefer my crossword games to not recycle words so frequently that they show up on immediately following puzzles. I also prefer full words as opposed to a string of prepositions within a phrase. Just a lazy program that pumps out these puzzles that doesn’t pay any attention to the previous puzzle it just pumped out.

  • My Favorite Crossword App

Never written a review for an app before, but I really do love this app. Ads don’t pop up often, I usually just download packs and turn off wi-fi and cellular data so I don’t get any. The puzzles have great difficulty range and you can customize gameplay to your liking so you can play to whatever skill level you want (I usually play on hard mode and make it so that I don’t know whether my answers are correct until the puzzle is completed). Very user friendly and accessible so anyone can play. I’ve even found favorite crossword writers, particularly Ada Nicolle. She writes puzzles with a lot more pop culture references geared toward a younger audience, which is GREATLY appreciated as someone in their 20’s. Can’t recommend this app more :)

  • A GREAT OLD GAME LAID OUT PERFECTLY!!

I loved the day where you opened up the paper on Sunday. My dad would read the news and I would go for the funnies and play the cryptic game. The crossword puzzles were a gem. I grew up watching my father drink coffee and work the puzzle. After a few years I started working them and slowly became hooked. Marmaduke and Garfield were in the funny section. Darla was great and then the crossword. I would try to help my dad only it was the other way around. I miss those days so much and miss my dad even more. When I looked for puzzles this one is the best in the store hands down. I absolutely love this. It’s easy to work. In the settings you can set it to your desire which really doesn’t need to be set but they put it in settings.🤙🙏I thank the developers very much. They brought back the best of both from the past. My dad would love this!

  • Quite enjoyable with only one minor complaint.

I really enjoy this app! The variance of difficulties and dozens of authors. Depending how much time I have for a puzzle, I’ll adjust the difficulty to suit me. Never have any issues with the app itself aside from crashes now and again. But I think most apps do that. I like… no, LOVE that they don’t cram ads down your throat. The ads are brief and I’ve found that you can just shut off Wi-Fi and you can play with no ad interruptions. But that’s kind of cheating so I don’t do it. I thought about purchasing to remove them, however this leads me to my only real minor complaint: I pretty much blazed through most of the puzzles and they do update with new ones now and again, however, I would love to see more frequent updates and maybe some new authors as well. Other than that. Solid app. By far the best crossword one out.
