  • Great lil sound when I enter the correct word

This is the second iPhone crossword puzzle app I have tried. The first I won’t mention, but let me say it is from a very well-known and established newspaper that has a stranglehold on perceived quality crossword clues. I have greatly enjoyed this app even though I have no idea who is writing these puzzles and whether or not they are legitimate crossword canon. As the title of this review indicates, my favorite feature is the delightful animation and jingle that happens when you enter the correct answer into the puzzle. Some might say that that’s cheating, that one should disable that feature to more fully enjoy the challenge of the puzzle. I go back and forth on this issue, but ultimately I will continue to revel in that “right answer” song.

  • Great App!!!

So, I absolutely love crossword puzzles. And this app is great! It’s only 20 dollars to remove apps period, no continuous fees. (I don’t have money, seeing as I’m a teenager, but I would definitely pay it if I did) They don’t make you watch ads to get hints, and you can choose whether or not you want it to show errors. There are tons of crossword puzzles, and better yet: they save your progress so you can go do a new one if you’re stuck for a little bit. They don’t throw ads at your face every few minutes when you’re in the middle of a puzzle. Overall, this is a great app and a great way to spend my time. Best of all, it’s free! 10/10 recommend for people who like crossword puzzles.

  • Keyboard

I don’t know if it’s just me, but the keyboard feels “sticky”. It doesn’t press on the right letters or backspace when I need it too.
  • Have hours of pleasure on crossword

I’m a senior citizen all most 80years old i do at least 10 to 15 crossword a week and i believe it keeps my brain active and as I’m now on my own i think it’s a fantastic way to exercise my brain
  • Keeps me sharp

I’ve been using this app for a couple of years. I have the free version and although it has ads, they aren’t overly intrusive and only last for 30 seconds to one minute. It’s great for filling in time while waiting in a doctor’s office, for a friend while they run into the store, or the pharmacist to fill a prescription. One of the best features is that you can stop anywhere in a puzzle, close the app, and go right back to where you were when you closed it. The dashboard allows you to set up game just about any way you like. Among other features, you can go from a light to a dark mode, set it up to turn letters that are mistakes, red or set it up to let you complete the puzzle and then tell you that there are x number of errors that need to be corrected. Finally, the actual puzzle is easy to navigate with arrows that allow you to move from down to across or vice versa, delete mistakes, or move to another location in the puzzle.

  • This app was my favorite

    This app WAS the best!
I played the app every day on my iPad for we'll over a year, then mysterious this week it stopped working. The app launches but then just closes. I'm not sure if it’s my iPad, although everything else is working normally, or whether something has happened with the app for the iPad. The app works fine on my phone, but who wants to do crosswords on their phone?
I've deleted and re-downloaded the app several times, but the result is the same.
    I'm so disappointed.

  • Few are really good

I’m doing the medium, but few are actually medium except the McClain ones. The rest ask for obscure words in foreign languages. 🙄 To me that’s NOT MEDIUM! It’s hard! I shouldn’t have a puzzle in English that asks for obscure foreign words. So I have bought this, but I’m really limited. If you speak numerous foreign languages, this is for you. 😉 Apparently, these people don’t understand the concept of MEDIUM. Too many clues have zero to do with the actual answer, also. Good luck! ALL are hard unless you speak several foreign languages. Also, if you buy this, realize it’s only going to be on the device you buy it on. It doesn’t sync with another device nor will it restore your purchase. When you lose the paid version on an old device, kiss it goodbye.

  • Crossword puzzle, Redstone

Beware, this app accepts ads, but that’s not the problem! They don’t check the ads for “bad” stuf. I’ve now seen an add that says; “Your iPhone memory is full”. I expect that, with this beginning, it contains a virus. Beware!!!! The developer was going to check this, But … I’ve just gotten another push of the same add!!!!! They obviously haven’t had any cooperation from the ad agency, who probably don’t have a clue about malicious software which will mess with your device!!!!! It’s been a couple weeks now, and I’m still seeing that questionable “ad” that says “your phone memory is full! Click here to get “ (it cleaned up), is the essence of the message. It sure ‘smells’ like an attempt to steal passwords, and or what ever ‘they’ can find!!! Please get whoever you’re getting that from kicked off as an advertiser!!!

  • Great app; needs a frantic decluttering.

I've been using this app for some time (ad-free, paid version). I like the wide choices with difficulty levels, authors and even the size of the puzzles. Any given day I can go through ten puzzles or so.

My only gripe is that I cannot sort or save puzzles by specific author. By size or difficulty, yes. By author, no. I've been doing a binge on Marc McLain's puzzles for several months now, and I must scroll through forty to fifty pages in order to find his earlier puzzles. Then I "bookmark" them by solving the first few words in Puzzle 1 of the group. That way, his puzzle groups stay on the first screen (i.e., the screen that first appears with the new ones listed) where I can see them and access them easily. (Yes, this is a weird way to use the app, but it's how I roll. Work with me here.)

If that feature could be added in a future update, I would be an even happier cat. Thank you, and keep the brain food coming!

  • Best Entertainment Value on the World Wide Web

For a one-time payment of a modest amount, I’ve had hours and years of a pastime that helps to keep my aging mind sharp. The puzzle masters are constantly posting new puzzles that sometimes use very recent events as the basis for an answer. Sure, there are a lot of common words that certain puzzle-makers reuse —— Oreo, Ere, and the like —- but the puzzles remain fresh nonetheless.

Don’t be cheap. Pay for the ad-free version. You’ll never see another ad and simultaneously support and thank the puzzle master for bringing a top-quality puzzle to your phone.

It’s the best pastime app in the App Store. — SCT
