CARRIER BATTLES 4 GUADALCANAL is a classic hex-and-counter wargame covering the naval-air battles during the Pacific War in 1942-1943 Review by Pocket Tactics " Overall Carrier Battles 4 Guadalcanal is a solid WW2 naval wargame built around a great interface. It’s a realistic simulation that is accessible and fun, retaining depth while not letting the player get bogged down in menus or decisions. • Awesome Game

Awesome game that stays about as true to history as a mobile game can! I played on my iPad and the game is very in depth, yet very accessible and easy to play. The AI is very good and unforgiving making solo play a rewarding challenge. I love the time the developer has taken to make the scenarios historically representative. On the coral sea scenario, the outcome of my match was EXACTLY the same as what historically occurred. Seaplanes and submarines are worthwhile add ons to the game.
    Looking forward to future content

  • US Aircraft Squadrons Seriously Understrength

While I love the mechanics of this game, it seems virtually impossible to win playing as the US. The US aircraft squadrons are seriously under strength, compared to their historical counterparts. For example, for the Midway scenario, each US carrier has only 20 planes. At the actual battle, each carrier had at least 77 planes. The game scenario OOB for the Midway squadrons is 6 F2As, 2 F2Fs, 5 SBDs, 4 SB2Us, 2 TBFs, 1 B-26, and 5 B-17s. The actual strength of the squadrons at Midway was 21 F2As, 7 F4Fs, 19 SBDs, 17 SB2Us, 6 TBFs, 4 B-26s, 17 B-17s, and 31 PBYs. The game scenario has no PBYs, depriving the US of long range search capability.

    Developer Response

Actually, each air unit counter represents 4 planes. (See the page describing air units) There are PBY which are managed by the program. You may notice white search areas on map
  • One problem

I think we shouldn’t have to deal with In-app purchases here, it just feels greedy to have to pay to play Japan or play other scenarios

    Developer Response

An interesting subject You have to know that the firs version of the game, back in 2016, had only 5 scenarios Then new features and a 6th scenarios came in A lot of work and love has been thrown into new scenarios and features which are justifying the in-app, especially because they are totally optional to enjoy the game However, after a while, the combined price of all in-app might be a too step for the new comers We could increase the base price while pouring more stuff in the base version but it is difficult to increase it without daunting new players They are reflexion about making a new app comparable to the PC/Mac version with a relative few number of in-apps or using a premium subscription which would unlock everything To be continued
