Hi MrStreamTY0, Thank you for staying with us and exploring new words together. You are truly Vocabulous! Here to smile with you, Lexi from Word of the Day

Annoying

Companies don’t realize when they advertise and say “free to use” just to have you waste time answering personalized questions and at the very end…. Ask for money… they create a huge negative experience and distrust. You just lied. It is not free to use. “Free to try for 7 days” is the truth. I’m sure the app is great but the sheer fact of the world of companies that lie… this is another one of those companies where I felt very deceived and it has resulted in me deleting the app and any time anyone asks about a word app, I will tell them my negative experience with this app and to stay away. Now imagine the company actually did give it for free and it was such a good app that they said “hey, we don’t want finances to not let you learn so it is free. We spent a lot of time and money developing this app we are proud of. If you want to show your gratitude, you can donate here.” See the difference? This gives actual trust and ironically, would probably make more money. So many companies miss out on actually helping the world vs capitalism and deceiving to get the sale (the download). Not to mention over time having people leave reviews for others to see. This is a negative or positive ripple effect. Pick your path.

Hello! We truly apologize for any confusion you may have experienced while using the app. We want to reassure you that we do offer a free version, which includes ads and limited features, so you can enjoy its benefits at no cost. With this option, you can still learn a new word every day! Warm regards, The Word of the Day Team

No Free Option

While I appreciate the updates, it’s infuriating that there is no free option anymore. I don’t need the words tailored to my personality or interests, especially not for $60 a year. The original free version should still be an option at least, even if there are ads.

Excellent

I love this app because almost every word I’ve gotten actually never heard of, and my vocabulary is pretty broad as is. In this app, there’s nothing but make it wiser and definitely deeper if you are in vocabulary and love words and this is the app for you!😇😇

Notifications don’t work

I really wanted to like this app so much, I loved the cute artworks that accompany the words being shown and the voice pronunciations it has. While the words are quite sophisticated that you’d probably not use, I thought they were interesting and liked the fact that I was learning words that I never knew existed.
My issue with the app was the notifications. I received no daily reminders, which was part of the reason why I wanted an app like this.
I enabled notifications on the app and I also enabled the notifications on my phone settings for this app, but still- nothing. And it’s not a problem with my phone because I’m receiving notifications from all other apps just fine, seems like it’s an app issue.
There were days where I forgot to go in and generate my daily word, and wished that a notification will remind me instead. No point in paying a whole heap of money to buy the app when it doesn’t work the way you’d want it to, so I didn’t proceed with my subscription and cancelled during my trial period. I wish things were different with the app, but I’ll try and find another app that does what this one was supposed to do.
Reached out to support, and they responded back and mentioned they will look into my case, but wasn’t rectified before I spent the money. Oh well.

Lackluster update

I have been an ardent advocate and enthusiast of this application for approximately 6 years. As an educator, I utilized it daily to enhance not only my own lexicon but also that of my students. Transitioning from the educational sector to tech-consulting, I discovered its augmented utility in my interactions with colleagues, mentors, and clients, significantly enriching my conversational vocabulary. Recent updates, however, as echoed in other recent reviews, have regrettably oversimplified both the user interface and functionality. The word search feature less user-friendly, and the application seemingly evolving from a practical tool into a gamified entity. I earnestly implore the PM or the individual responsible for this update to reconsider and restore some of the original intuitive features, moving away from the current pared-down interface. The present iteration feels disappointingly inferior, reminiscent of a transition from a meticulously milled piece of aluminum to a mass-produced injection molded plastic.

It brings us joy, especially when we hear that teachers find the app beneficial for their work. We sincerely apologize for any dissatisfaction you've experienced with the recent update. While our main goal was to provide users with the opportunity to learn more words each day, we understand that the changes introduced may not suit everyone's preferences. We value our users' feedback in shaping the app's evolution. As many long-term users express nostalgia for the previous version, we're actively working on an update to restore elements of the old version. Stay tuned for these upcoming changes, and we hope you'll give Word of the Day another chance! Word of the Day Team

Change the app and don’t like the new format!

This used to be a great app when I initially signed up last year. I could catch up on earlier words before my subscription and catch up on days that I may have missed. The artwork was also beautiful. They also used to provide the etymology of the words to better understand the meaning which they do not do anymore. Unfortunately I will not be renewing my subscription. It’s not worth the money.

Flip this app

OK I have written a strongly well thought out review for this app, and I wanted to show my greatness by sharing it with a close member of my life, but when I came to find out that not only is this app, not accessible to any of the children of the Internet, but it also isn’t that my review isn’t showing up on the app reviews therefore, this app is trying to silence me we all need to protest for media literacy and joy, because why can Word of the Day my speech this is stupid it’s ugly. It’s not even cute and everyone who has this app should genuinely rethink any life decision they’ve ever made, and distinctly know everyone they’ve ever known is lying about loving them, because for a app that works like a dictionary should rethink any life decision they’ve ever made because this is embarrassing, I just wanted to be cute and look what happened don’t do the same you will go crazy psychotic we’re friends will disown you your family will hate you you’ll be a girl when you’re older and like the color beige and and become an accountant and become an unsuccessful person in general life people who own such an app will be hated for all of eternity. This is embarrassing everybody shame #ShameAnyoneWho’sEverOwnedIt’sNotPreppyThePilgrimsWeren’tPreppyAndNeitherAreYou.

Changed with new year

*update* still don’t like the “chat” feature and the new look AND customer service was great. They explained why and respect my comments. I miss the old look and now will have to get used to the list. 5 stars customer service averages against the look. Glad to know customer service is available. My brain will take time and I will practice what customer service advised. Thank you.

Getting some new “chat” with no explanation. Used to be able to review the week or months at any time and they are now gone. The other version was much more user friendly, accessible to review all of it any time. The previous version worked with my learning style. This does not. With a brain injury, Asperger’s, a PhD, and as a former professor I know how we need myriad learning methods and options. The previous app offered that and this one is limited, annoying in the way I have to battle to find information and zero customer service. I al so disappointed because it truly was a lovely app before. No longer worth the money. This iteration is boring, colorless, unaccessible, with too many changes. Why change what wasn’t broken?!?
