We thought it would be fun to try out some new recipes but found out you’d better have a well stocked pantry and a compost heap if you use Home Chef.
Nearly every order we received had spoiled tomatoes, mushy fermented diced onions and peppers mangled frozen greens, or rotten potatoes. If you chat or leave a recipe review to complain no one responds and their chatbot says, “when in doubt throw it out.” I spent $10-14 per meal (x8 - 12 meals) and got told to throw it out. I have an extensive garden and was able to replace most of our ingredients but I didn’t pay for a meal delivery service to go pick my own vegetables. The portions were large after I added my own produce. The recipes were a mix of interesting, mediocre, and so awful we won’t ever make that again, but they all lacked seasoning. If I asked for piri piri, jalapeños, or chipotle it should have some level of spice to it, yet nothing did. The meals are bland unless you raid your own pantry for real spices. Try some other service, this one delivers garbage.
