  • Functional-when it connects

I’ve been using it for a few months now. Once you program a schedule it’s hard to see the program. Each zone lists events, no indication of whether they repeat other days or affect other zones. Sometimes it will not take a new event, perhaps because of a conflict but that isn’t usually clear. No easy way to switch a whole program from heat to fan to cooling, you can only control this event by event. Other programmable timers have more graphical interfaces and the ability to switch events on or off. I might want heat at night and cooling during the day in May, but would like to switch off the heat in June and restart in October. More significantly, the app often drops zones, telling me that they are offline when they are not. Generally they reconnect later in the day. Most recently I lost an entire zone and have not been able to reconnect This system really compromises what is otherwise an excellent split system.

I’m revising my review to 1 star overall. It works only some of the time. At this time I haven’t been able to connect at all because it doesn’t recognize my wifi or my password.

A program that works some of the time is less than worthless.

  • Far behind the competition

I have a system with an intelliheat ducted dual fuel setup. This app and the controls in general are a downgrade to my 10 year old color screen Honeywell setup with built in wifi and TCC app. This app crashes every time I leave it and come back, the program area only has one schedule input (Honeywell had a heating and cooling schedule as separate items), no built in controls for time of day electrical rates, or the ability to program when you want to prioritize gas or electric based on cost, no geo fencing, no readable status or diagnostic information, and a very basic gui compared to competition. For the cost of the system and the need to add the kumo cloud module, this interface is really far behind the industry in my opinion. I would expect better for a “premium” system and $600 worth of controls!

  • App is worthless

Spent $15k for the system and the upgrade for app to control the system. It’s been over 3yrs of frustration. Modes change by themselves from auto to cool to heat. Not heating or cooling in the “auto” mode, actually changing the full mode on its own. The other morning it was 30° outside. I had it on “auto” for 68°-71° when I went to bed. Got up to 63° and in “cool” mode! Let’s talk about “offline” mode… one zone will be fine and the other offline. Currently stuck there. All “troubleshooting” wants to tell you is that there must be a wifi issue. Everything else works fine and wifi signal is strong. It’s a continual problem since installing my system. So, here I sit, with “cool” mode on, wanting to change it before bed and it’s been offline in one zone for the last 35 minutes. It’s going to be 30° again tonight, and the AC is on! I’m now off to try and find a remote and hopefully it will work (doesn’t always when it’s in offline mode on the app).

  • Does the Basics but not user friendly

It has basic functionality but lacks a lot of other features other similar apps provide.

One item is I cannot add a household member to control the system or adjust the temperature, I have to literally share my user name and password with all other household members. Other apps like Nest and Enphase let you add household members without sharing your own log-in and password

Also setting up programs is tedious at best and frustrating most of the times. I would prefer instead of setting temperature, mode, fan speed, etc for each schedule time, I’d prefer to set a preset like “Home”, “Away”, “Custom 1”, “Custom 2” where I adjust the temperature, mode, fan speed, etc. in the preset then assign a preset in the schedule. It would make adjusting the mode between spring and winter pretty much painless as you only have to adjust the presets instead of adjusting each time in your schedule. Ecobee does something similar to this and it is fantastic.

  • Cumbersome version difficult to work with

I’ve had several problems with the app. First, one of my zones disappeared. The boxes that indicate system status are all showing they are connected, and the thermostat is showing that it is connected to WiFi and to the cloud. But it’s not there.

Next, try to figure out how to reset the filter times when you replace a filter. You’re going to search high and low and come up empty handed.

I created a group when I didn’t know what I was doing and I added one zone to that group. But I don’t want the group and would like to delete it. This does not seem to be possible.

You might think that Mitsubishi would include a link in their app to a user manual, where more information could be obtained. Like a “Help” link at the bottom of the app. Nope.

The documentation I have found online appears to be for a different version of the app than I have. The directions included in that manual do not match my version of the app. From what I can tell, I have version 2.43 of the app and the manual is for version 2.6. But I apparently have the latest version.

Navigating through the maze of choices is cumbersome and nothing appears in what one might assume would be a natural place. If you want to do more than just check or set your temperature, good luck.

  • Worst app possible for a great system

I LOVE my Mitsubishi Hyperheat system, after about a year of use. I absolutely HATE everything about this buggy, poorly updated, and non-user friendly app. Giving it 1 star even feels unfair to other users who might imply that this app works even partially as advertised.

If you have an issue with it, and I assure you that you will, good luck spending 2+ hours on hold for support only to be told it’s a “known issue” that they will create a ticket for that likely ends up in the trash which is where this app belongs.

The app poorly interfaces with the thermostats and units themselves, causing erratic behavior of the heating and cooling units. If you completely disable the Kumo interface, the units will operate flawlessly.

The sad fact is I paid a few hundred extra dollars for the “privlege” of using the 3 kumo adaptors I have, which are sitting offline because they cause my units to operate erratic, ramp up and down needlessly and wasting energy, and constantly lose connection with an otherwise stable WiFi network.

Just get thermostats and don’t waste your money on Kumo. Integrations with HomeKit or other popular interfaces? Don’t hold your breath. They’ve been working on my two “open tickets” for a year now. I’m pretty sure nothing else is happening either.

  • Connection Issues

I have been using the app for at least three years and it will occasionally lose the wifi connection and indicates one or more zones are offline. I can usually fix this simply by clicking on the zone or resetting the router. It’s not ideal, but fine and not necessarily unexpected with routers. More recently, the app has lost all connectively and gives me a no signal error. It also won’t identify or connect to any of my wireless channels even though previously connected. This is even after resetting the router multiple times and trying to connect to my 2.4 ghz channel and the other channels directly by typing in the network name and password. It just spins and does not connect.

Each of my four zones are connected to Alexa and two continue to work only through Alexa, so something is connected even though the app says otherwise. It’s very frustrating since I like to check and adjust temps in each zone when I’m away.

The system is way to expensive and WiFi connections are way too common to be experiencing problems like this, especially after a few years of use. I’m hesitant to delete the app and start over since it was incredibly hard to connect each unit to the app in the first place and I don’t want to lose the two WiFi connections I still have through Alexa.

  • So many bugs, too little time

Over and over, I have enter and re-enter WiFi credentials and wait, wait, wait — oh has an hour gone by? On multiple days? Keeping this app connected is a part-time job. I’m connecting this to a dedicated network where my Watts Home app runs my radiant heating flawlessly so the problem is not my WiFi signal or internet service provider. The app and component transmitters are glitchy, with repeated fails and a problematic user interface that requires repetitive inputs. Please find a competent and knowledgeable IT team to design and test this app before frustrating its users. I would have expected more from a company like Mitsubishi. Also, they don’t tell you the app maxes out at 4 units so if you try to add a fifth, it simply dumps another unit off so you can spend HOURS trying to reconnect that one. It’s a very whack-a-mole setup and clearly nobody reviewed the UX before launching.

  • Working and Needs Improvements

Have been using the kumo app for the last four years and used it daily. It’s more convenient compared to the remote control from anywhere by multiple people. 👍 Improvements needed: 1- Slow to open up the app 2- Slow to excute the commands. For example, changed the temperature setting on the app and moved on to another app. A lot of times the temperatures are not altered. It stayed at the original position. My way now is to keep the app open and wait until the change is functional, such as the fan started or stopped, then moved on to another app on the phone. Sometimes it takes one minute or so to have the new settings to work. 3- Lack of the Vacation Mode. On the remote, the Smart Set key button can be used for that purpose. However one cannot check the status outside of the house with the phone app. Onetime I set up a fixed temperature before vacation with the Smart Set. But when came back 10-days later I found that the system was running on my regular schedule in which the house was heated up and cooled down daily. The operations still can be locked up at times but has been much less frequently.
