Not Actual Budget

Calling an app ‘stolen’ is simply not accurate. Users are never charged unexpectedly or forced into anything — pricing, subscriptions, and free trial details are all clearly shown by Apple before any purchase is made. Our app is an independently developed budgeting app with its own design, features, and development process. We respect all budgeting communities and believe users should choose the app that works best for them.
Very good app only a couple steps short of perfection.
My honest rating would be 4.5/5, but we can’t submit half-ratings.

Thanks for sharing this. Actual Budget is an independent, standalone budgeting app for iPhone and iPad. It is designed for users who want simple expense tracking, budgets, savings goals, and private iCloud sync across Apple devices. It does not connect to external or self-hosted budgeting servers. We understand how that expectation could be confusing, and we’ll make the App Store listing clearer so users know exactly what the app is built for.

Thank you for the follow-up. I’m sorry this experience left such a negative impression. For clarity, App Store trial renewals, billing, and refunds are handled directly by Apple, not by developers. If a user does not want a free trial to convert into a paid subscription, it must be canceled at least 24 hours before the trial ends, and that part is the subscriber’s responsibility through Apple’s system. Refunds are also approved and paid by Apple. Based on the status visible on our side, your charge was fully refunded and Apple approved it immediately. On the app side, the expense and income editing issue you mentioned was a real iPad-specific bug, and it has already been fixed in version 1.2.1. Once that update is live, the iPad experience will be much smoother. I take product quality seriously, and when a real issue is reported, I move quickly to fix it. Feedback like this helps make the app better for everyone.
Confusing and no customisation

Thanks for the honest feedback. The daily figure is not random. It is a Safe to Spend calculation based on the income, bills, recurring transactions, and timing in your budget. That said, if the logic was not clear enough in the app, that is something I need to improve. Payday aligned budget cycles are a valid feature request and already under consideration. The lifetime offer is optional, and I agree that any limited time offer should feel transparent and trustworthy.

Thanks for the feedback. Actual Budget is free to download, and the paywall appears at the end of setup so you can preview the experience first, then choose whether to subscribe. Pricing and terms are shown on the paywall before you confirm any purchase. Shared budgets / partner access for couples or multi-households isn’t available yet (single-user only for now). We’re actively evaluating household sharing — if you tell us the workflow you need via Settings → Help/Contact, it genuinely helps us build the right solution.

Hi there — thanks for reporting this, and I’m sorry for the inconvenience. You’re absolutely right: in version 1.0.18 there was a bug that could incorrectly show an “update required” screen even when you were already on the latest version. We identified it quickly and released a fix, so the app should now open normally once you install the latest update from the App Store. If you’re still seeing the message after updating, please try fully closing the app and reopening it (or reinstalling). That should clear the loop. And if the update resolves the issue for you, we’d really appreciate it if you could consider updating your rating/review — it helps a lot.
Impersonating the real actual budget!

Hello, We would like to clarify that our app is not impersonating any product or brand. When you search “Actual Budget” on the App Store, the only result you will find with that name is our own application, developed independently with original design, codebase, and branding. We do not attempt to rise by imitating anyone, nor do we gain subscribers through misleading practices. Our users subscribe only if they genuinely find value in the features after exploring the app. It’s unfortunate that an application with its own unique design, hundreds of positive experiences from real users, and a completely independent development path is being associated with claims that have no factual basis. We always welcome constructive criticism that helps us improve, but personal accusations such as calling a developer “bad dev” do not reflect the experience of the vast majority of our users and are not aligned with a fair reviewing spirit.
